We used to put a trot line across our pond...stretch a line across the pond, use empty milk jugs to attach the lines going down with the sinkers... go back a few hours later and collect your fish

For the apple tree you are concerned about having the fire blight,,, as soon as possible cut the branch you pointed out and either tie it tightly in a large trash bag or burn it well away from the orchard. (The following actually works) Take two tablespoons of the treatment powder and mix it with water to create a paste that will stay in place,,, so thick is the key here. Apply it to the branch nub fairly uniformly including the face of the cut and at least an inch on the bark. After a few hours LOOSELY set a clear plastic freezer bag over the nub and secure it in place. LOOSELY is important as you want the area to drain off any moisture as well as not overheating. After a week remove the plastic and leave the area alone. Think of this as a strong shot of the antibiotic before you resume your usual systemic applications. This worked on 7 of 8 infected trees in old orchard that came with our new house.

I mentioned it before, but I’ll repeat my suggestion.. a windmill based pump setup would be a very cheap and convenient way to build a fountain system for your pond without increasing your electric bill..... Plus a windmill would look aesthetically pleasing on the homestead. A mini windmill driving an old dirty pump would be a great starting point.... a full size one might even let you irrigate your fields... Later you could swap in an electric pump if necessary.

You have a beautiful property and doubly so because of the pond. Sorry about the blight situation. It really must be disheartening. The peaches looked yummy and I immediately thought "cobbler" my favorite and also peach milk shakes. Hardees used to have a delicious one and then they quit selling it. I guess they couldn't find any peaches that tasted like peaches anymore. Y'all have a Blessed day.

I really like your place and what you both have done over the years. That's my goal with our property, and it's what I want to do when I am finally able to retire. Solely time for taking care of a garden, orchard and animals. It's a lot of "work", but somehow when I'm working on our property it really doesn't "feel" like work. I like to call it my therapy.

JudithB LOL! Trying to catch up is my daily job too!!! I ground up a gallon of cucs and squash into brine to make pickle relish tomorrow. Picked peppers, cucs, squash and tomatoes too. Started 6 paks of Black Seeded, Cos, Romaine lettuce and chard and kale to transplant into beds as they empty. I will plant carrots and radishes and peas directly into beds in Sept. I did start removing the old strawberry pools in the yard, and will plant new plants in the garden hoop bed next year. Busy time of year!!! The grass in your back yard grew in well too!!! Its all looking good!!!!

Fire blight can spread from using your cutters. I've heard you should dip your cutters in a pail of bleachy water between each snip, & cut a couple inches past the damaged area. Good Luck. I enjoy your channel. Beautiful Place!

Rain! Here in East England we are having a heatwave. Hopefully we will have some thunderstorms mid week.
Everything looks so lush. So sad that you lost those fruit trees! My parents had a plum tree which never produced much. if they had plums, they were eaten by insects and birds before they were fully ripe, Finally they cut it off.

I really love your homestead and channel. You guys are so cute together. Love your animals. I only have 3 saanen goats. Man those are cute. They pull your jeans out of your boots. When I was young my dad had an orchard. To my knowledge fire blight is very contageous. The best way is to remove a tree completely once they have it. Put the cut up tree in plastic bags and burn them as soon as possible. Do yo happen to have hawthorn bushes in the nabourhood of the orchard ? They are said to be the culprit. They bloom the same time as apples and pears. The bees fly between the hawthorn and the fruit trees and they bring it over. Here in the Netherlands you will never see hawtorn next to an orchard. I love your channel so much I've subbed.

Rebekkah I love freezing peaches for pie's in the winter....... I use lemon juice and they keep their color and don't turn brown on me. I wash them dip them in hot water for 1 minute, peel them, sprinkle them with lemon juice, cut them into slices, bag them and freeze. I also make a spanish rice with tomatoes and green peppers then stuff it into a green pepper after I cut the top off (save it and use it for the lid) . I followed the recipe and blanched the peppers first but didn't like how they turned soggy so now I just dip them quickly into hot salty water to clean them and stuff and place in a small aluminum pan I get from the dollar store that I have added some marinara sauce on the bottom. I put a spoon or so on the top too a handful of cheese your choice I use swiss. Wrap with foil and into the freezer they go. In the winter I can take them out and put them right in the oven to bake. Your choice if you want to defrost them or not, do it in the fridge. I bake around 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Sometimes I add meat sausage usually. Some homemade bread and walla...... Supper in a pinch and the house smells good to. Hugs from Minnesota

To clean/clear the pond, 2 things you need to do: add rocks of like around or in the water and you need circulation. Get a couple of solar fountains. Missouri a nd Arkansas has some of the cleanest streams and water says around. You can see the bottom s.

I read a article about the fire blight that stated the blight starts at the end of a limb and works toward the bigger limbs and then to the main base and it said when you see that happening cut back from where it is dying to stop it from going any further.

My pond size is only a 1.5 acre size. I did this approx 2 years ago and I still do NOT have algae. The fish weigh approx. 3-4 pounds now.

I appreciate your tour of your homestead. It is just beautiful. My husband walked by and asked if I was looking at a golf course when the pond was up with the cut grass. You and Rebecca always seem so calm and smile all the time, even when things go awry. I learn from you each time I watch an episode. The garden is wonderful and looks so nice with the fence and the ground cloth. Sorry about the bacterial infection on the apple trees. There is a place in Lansing, NC (Ashe County) that specializes in heritage apple trees. Here is their link. When you replace yours, you might enjoy looking at their huge variety. bighorsecreekfarm.com/
