Thank you so much for this review! I want to shoot in-studio and travel content and have been on the fence about the pocket 3 and it's performance as a studio camera but this has given me confidence that it's the best camera, especially just starting out.
I think it looks fine for a studio camera. For the studio, audio is way more important than the video quality. As long as your in focus and well lit, most modern camera devices mounted will do a decent job. The Pocket 3 can be used for almost any video situation. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
In this comparison, I think the image quality of the Sony ZV-E10 is much better than that of the Pocket 3 in terms of richness of detail. However, I think you can get even more out of the Pocket 3: in the standard setting, it tends to blur faces, which makes them look a bit muddy. It would be interesting to see a repeat of the comparison if you shoot with Pocket 3 in D-Log M, set sharpness and noise reduction to -2 and set sharpness to a pleasing level in post-processing.
aiming to establish a personal brand, this is amazing. Take my example - I've been wanting to create my own personal brand for a while. I have a Sony A7RII, Studio light, and more. However, shooting videos on the camera, recording audio separately, syncing it in post-production, and adjusting the tripod for business calls is quite a hassle. But DJI provides a simple solution that eliminates all the friction. It's especially appealing for business owners like me who create business videos. I no longer need to put in the hard work to start shooting - I just need to shoot. The same goes for international travel - a lightweight case instead of a bulky backpack with lenses. Brilliant! ✌
Hey, just wanted to say I've been eagerly waiting for someone to review this part of the DJI before making a buying decision. @Worthitornot, thank you so much for taking the time to make that review! You've definitely gained a sub and supporter here!
A big key to this mic is that the replacement cost is under 700$ for camera, extra battery mic, gimbal, lens. As someone who has had all of those stolen and/or broken...if your channel is about communication (as opposed to being about camera tech), this is just an unbeatable value.
New subscriber! I am so happy you made this video as it was exactly what I was looking for. I create content and have had repeated issues with my Canon 90d and the settings and somehow even though it's in a studio and controlled environment, it seems like I'm having to fix all the settings every time I record, and it wastes a lot of time. So lately I've been using the DJI Pocket 2 to record some videos in my office, super quick and easy. I just bought the DJI Pocket 3 for the same thing, plus there's so much you can do with it if vlogging more than just recording in a studio. For people new to UA-cam content creation, these products will give you great sound quality and a very nice looking video.
I use it as much as my main cam and I love it. I did a video on it a couple weeks ago and the only issue ai had was learning how to color match with my sony a7iv. But I figured it out.
Interesting... this is actually the first time that i see the Pocket 3 beeing so soft in a video. It sure can't defeat the combo full frame and great lens for studio setup but when on the move it's just a revolution ... most of the time what prevents me from beginning is the " grabbing a fullframe camera, choosing the lens, putting it on a gimbal, setting it up & beeing annoyed by the process " and then already not beeing motivated anymore. For simple facecam vlogs on the go it's just the new king imo.
Ahh this video is what I needed! I was thinking about getting both the OP3 and the Sony EV Z10 with a wide angle $50 attachment lens (will update a better lens later). No one is talking about this comparison except you! For some reason my intuition is telling me sony zv10 + (right now) $50 attachment for wide lens and the osmo for when I’m on the go. I don’t want to draw attention and think too much about stabilization. It also seems like you could use the osmo inside (“in studio) with that amazing auto tracking for some extra “b roll” while I’m also grabbing straight on footage from the sony….. Appreciate anyone’s input! I guess I should buy the OP3 first and see how I like it.
It seems to me that the OP3 has too much sharpness out of the box and too aggressive noise reduction, so detail suffers. This is why many content creators set their sharpening settings to -2 and noise reduction to -2.
The Pocket 3 is softer for sure but it's not bad at all! Really looks good for what it is... an all around utility camera. My only concern is how durable it will be after a year of use. I got one and so far I really like it. It's great to just take it where ever you want and ensure you'll get good video.
I have the same set up. ZVE 10 and Deville trucks 13 mm 1.4. Just a few more pennies in my piggy bank and I’m going to buy OP3. I like the shallow depth of field with Viltrox. But I see a lot of useful benefits for the OP3. Great review by the way, thanks.
I think the depth of field of the sony (or more precisely the lens’s) is a bit distracting in your studio setup. It is harder to see the neon light, and the subscribe pillows. The op3 looks sharp enough even without the background separation in my opinion. Also, one big thing you didn’t mention (or I missed it) is the monitoring/control capabilities of the op3 through the mimo app. It is one of the most useful things to have in this camera (at least for me). Even when I shoot something else, I just walk away a bit and use my phone to control the camera. And to be able to control EVERY setting is amazing. The playback is smooth and relatively high quality. In your studio setup (you are standing quite far from the camera) I guess this feature is gold🥰
Oh yeah, one more thing (against the zv-e10). If I’m right it can shoot up to 4k30…I think it is quite a big deal (shooting sports, or slow motion videos, etc). That was the other reason I did not go with the Sony. I love sony cameras though😅
I have been WAITING for someone to do a video like this and it’s perfect because I have a ZV-E10 I’m thinking about switching for the pocket 3. Thank you soooo much!!
hey, what did you do finally? I have two options here in the UAE, sony zv e10 with 16-50mm for 2100 AED and Dji pocket 3 standard for 1700 AED. I dont know if I should consider the portability or go for better details. Looking to shoot vertical content insta/fb/yt. and targeting college grads and parents.
@@nimeshluhana4796 hi! I have decided to go with the dji pocket 3 as I am more comfortable with it all around. I had a lot more pros than cons when making my decision. I have my Sony ZV-E10 up for sale now! Hope this helps 😀
Thanks for the video Andre. Since I don't have any cameras beyond my phone which was my first in 2022 smartphone because my previous MIL SPEC flip phone could not be upgraded to 5G the only video cameras I do have is an old basic GoPro sealed battery unit from 2015 and a little video camera I bought at Christmas time, the $20 deal. In the upward dollar range my purchase would be at minimal Sony ZV-E10 to have what I see as a camera compared to the styles of GoPro, etc. If I already had a plethora of mirrorless cameras these action camera would be accessory units. I like the aspects of the action cameras you reviews and I learn a lot from your videos. For my to get one I want a camera like the Sony ZV-E10, etc first. Thanks and have a great weekend.
Thanks for your input ! There are many creators who just use a cell phone for their videos and it works just fine. Even with really bad video quality, as long as audio quality is good, many people will overlook the video. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend too !
Shooting in D log the footage is way better. The free DJI luts actually gives a great color correction base. I am not a big fan of its normal record mode colors.
Yeah the normal color mode is a big soft in this Studio environment and D-LogM would have been much better and the DJI LUT back to rec709 is a good overall LUT.
The Sony ZVE10 locked off on a tripod is excellent for its price and looks at home with most other current mirrorless cameras. Where the Pocket 3 excels is in movement. In the studio, it is ok when given the very best conditions but still, looks similar, to most modern smartphones, if they are also given manual and best conditions.
Currently some users having issues with pocket 3 flip. Flip is not durable so be careful in advance. Check the UA-cam videos with problems people facing in osmo p3
I have seen a few videos of the screen issues, I have an idea/speculation of what caused this issue and will mention it in a future video. Considering that thousands have been sold in the 1st few days shows this as an isolated issue.
You can adjust the settings in the Pocket 3 or shoot in D-Log and you will be hard pressed to be able to different the outcome from the Sony. As a novice to filming and video editing I initially just used the Pocket 3 in all its default setting, then I watched some UA-cam videos and I adjusted my settings and I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome, even when I filmed in normal mode
Looked quite good I thought…I actually prefer the sharpness though it somewhat reminded me of a iPhone. My guess you might be able to mitigate somewhat, but I don’t know. Colors popped, maybe too much. It didn’t have quite the background blur, but personally I’ve never thought that was needed in the studio. Nice job! Btw Markuspix had some adjustments to sharpness etc that he recommended on his last video; but you have to skip nearer to the end (beginning is somewhat of a joke on purpose).
Good lord!!!! So many OPTIONS. WHAT IS THE BEST SOLUTION FOR TIKTOK Live streaming? Without spreading $3,000. Good audio excellent video. Running on a desktop. Any help?
Are you shooting in auto or pro mode with custom settings? perhaps its possible to get a better image out of the pocket 3? its doing some cellphone type post processing
the simple black mist filter would turn down the sharpness. although right out of the box it's pretty sharp. new firmware allows you to adjust the sharpness a noise.
I had the Pocket 1 & 2 (and now the 3) for years, and they are still there working perfectly. Of course it’s a bit more fragile than a compact, but put a compact on a gimbal and you’ll have also a fragile setup if it falls down. If you worry about it, I recommend to have a look to “Scotty makes stuff” they make solid protection for the Pockets.
Yes I will be doing a final conclusion of the Pocket 3 within the next week. I just wanted to really test it in some extreme conditions and using it in different scenarios over a period of time to make sure I tested in thoroughly
while it isn't as good as a mirrorless camera it's "almost" as good. and factoring in a tight budget this makes it the perfect on the go video camera setup. or arguably, the best in its class before you start spending megabucks on professional gear ⚙️.
@@WORTHITORNOT recording from pocket 3 camera. The setting only allows mono, which I now realize is normal. But I was confused when my UA-cam video I made played only in my left air pod. I then changed the audio to stereo in Davinci and it played in both AirPods. When I listened with headphones while editing, the audio seemed to play in both ears with mono, but not AirPods.
Humm, personally for me this is a novelty item and I agree the video and audio is good, but its form factor is not what I would consider professional, but that’s just me.
I don't think it holds up to the ZV-E10. But that doesn't really surprise me. The ZV-E10 has a lot bigger sensor and image processor and I've been impressed with the image quality from that. However that being said I think the Pocket 3 is very good for all the reasons you listed and if you want a good vlogging set up then it ticks all the boxes. If you saw the footage on it's own then you would be quite impressed with it. But up against the ZV-E10..... I think a fairer comparison would be up against the GoPro and the Osmo Action 4
To be fair the point was to see if it could double up as a studio camera, so it should be compared to a camera that you'd find in a UA-cam creator's studio (who isn't MKBHD or LTT). If we're talking purely camera comparisons then it can be compared to Sony's ZV-1 series which has the same size sensor as the Osmo Pocket 3.
@@SonnyBCreative I thought you had got that completely wrong until I realised you meant the ZV 1. Yes a comparison to the ZV 1 would be fair. I don't have one of those so I can't make a first hand comment on the quality. I do understand the point Andre was making though. As an 'all in' solution the Pocket 3 is a good choice but you will sacrifice some image quality in low or indoor lighting. If you wanted a pure studio camera you are ignoring or negating the Pocket 3's other advantages and may be better to choose an APSC camera.
sony zv 3 10 compared to the pocket 3 the only main thing is see is the sony image quality looks better besides that i do not see much of a difference between the two
I keep looking at the worth it or not neon sign on the wall noting the differences between both images. and a lot of that can be fixed with a "black mist" filter to soften it up. probably 1/8 would be enough.
@@WORTHITORNOT I hope the ZV-E10M2 will be something like A6700 stripped down the EVF, mechanical shutter and cheaper frame and maybe even the IBIS for 800-900$ so we will get 4K30&60 without crop and 4K120 with, 10bit, and only 1.1 crop for EIS... (and 4K30 "webcam")
@@WORTHITORNOTI’ve only seen one case of that problem as well… some man retired in the Philippines if I remember correctly. I have the pocket 1 and 2 but seldom used them; really liking the pocket 3 so far though; can see myself finding lots of use with this one. Thanks Andre for posting these videos!
@@Everyonehasanopinion I also have the Pocket 1 and still works great after these past 4 years, but this Pocket 3 is so much better in so many ways. Thanks for watching and commenting !
Haha it looks cartoonish ! You could probably get away with the OP3 in a studio setting with lots more light, but you'd want to wear sunglasses. DJI are not selling the wireless mic separately, I think they should because a lot of us don't mind to sync audio in post... even though I still think that the Boya XM6 still sounds a little better.
Yeah that Boya is hard to beat. I "think" DJI will release these wireless mics as I like you, don't mind syncing in post like I did here as all the audio was from the internal 32bit recording from the wireless mic.
@@WORTHITORNOT actually I found some "second hand" from people who bought the creator kit and don't use them. Can you setup, record and download the audio files straight on a single mic without receiver, OP3 or charging case?
@@StirfriedGerman Yes just turn on the transmitter, then hit the record button and when finished, stop recording, turn off transmitter and plug in a USB-C cable capable of data transfer and you’ll see a folder open on your computer with a .wav file. Transfer to computer and delete file from transmitter folder.
Personally I don't think the OP3 is fully focused on you. Seems the letters over your head are in much better focus than you. As the Sony is focused on you and the letters are out of focus. Wish you would have gotten that focus correct to make the true comparison.
Well the Pocket 3 is further away from me than a normal vlog situation and the Sony has a larger image sensor and lens has a f/1.4 aperture, bigger than the Pocket 3's f/2.0. Regarding getting the focus correct, they were both in auto focus, but the difference that you notice is what I mentioned in the previous sentence. Hope that helps
@@WORTHITORNOT I guess in all the research I have done, I have seen different results. Like getting the PS3 to lock on to you and not just in plain auto focus. Yes, it is not a pro level lens quality, but I have seen much better footage that shows sharp focus. Also were you shooting in 4K?
I see people trying to use it as a studio camera and it's seriously unwatchable.. It's main purpose is not for the studio and it shows the digital noise is prominent and it makes it almost unwatchable it's very muddy
@@WORTHITORNOT that I agree with 100%.. for its actual purposes it's great.. One thing I found is there's extreme banding in blue skies which is a common problem but the sensor just can't handle it.
Yes the Viltrox lens can go to a f1.4, but I set it to a f2.0 so it would be fair. The Viltrox paired with the Sony definitely give more background separation. Thanks for watching !
@@WORTHITORNOT u should have set it to F2.9-3 to get the same DOF as the pocket 3. zv-e10 have 1.5 crop for the APS-C and extra 1.23 crop at 4k30, that ends up at 1.85 crop. with a 13MM lens at F2.0 u get 24MM F3.7 full frame equivalent. pocket 3 have 2.7 crop (1") so its F stop equivalent is 5.4 and the focal we know its 20MM. that is why the pocket looks wider and with less DOF :)

Also dji care on the OP3 is like $30 for a year pretty cheap imho
Thank you for the video. I dont see a final conclusion of the Pocket 3 video on your channel yet. Just curious if you'd be putting it out?
Yes I will be doing a final conclusion of the Pocket 3 within the next week. I just wanted to really test it in some extreme conditions and using it in different scenarios over a period of time to make sure I tested in thoroughly
@@WORTHITORNOT Great, thank you!!
while it isn't as good as a mirrorless camera it's "almost" as good. and factoring in a tight budget this makes it the perfect on the go video camera setup. or arguably, the best in its class before you start spending megabucks on professional gear ⚙️.
Yes, getting all the required gear together can add up fast. Thanks for watching !
Hello sir. I want to use Osmo Pocket 3 as a webcam for Twitch live streams. Do I have any problems with long-term use? What are your suggestions?
I have not had the Pocket 3 long term, but no issues so far.
how do you get sharp background on dji? Mine is always blurry...
It depends on how far away the background is
@@WORTHITORNOT mine is about 2m away and the camera 1m away from me. I feel like here you have the same distance. How should I fix this?
How do you record stereo from mic ? Mine defaults to mono. I have to fix it in Davinci. It will only play in one ear.
Are you using the internal recording or the recording sent to camera?
@@WORTHITORNOT recording from pocket 3 camera. The setting only allows mono, which I now realize is normal. But I was confused when my UA-cam video I made played only in my left air pod. I then changed the audio to stereo in Davinci and it played in both AirPods. When I listened with headphones while editing, the audio seemed to play in both ears with mono, but not AirPods.
@@AprilClayton weird
Humm, personally for me this is a novelty item and I agree the video and audio is good, but its form factor is not what I would consider professional, but that’s just me.
Yeah the Pocket 3 is not for everyone for sure, but I personally think it’s a very powerful little camera. Thanks for watching
If we're talking purely camera comparisons then it can be compared to Sony's ZV-1 series which has the same size sensor as the Osmo Pocket 3.
same sensor size but processing is completely different
@@SonnyBCreative Yes, that would be the point of a comparison.
Make the battery removable/replaceable.
sony zv 3 10 compared to the pocket 3 the only main thing is see is the sony image quality looks better besides that i do not see much of a difference between the two
I keep looking at the worth it or not neon sign on the wall noting the differences between both images. and a lot of that can be fixed with a "black mist" filter to soften it up. probably 1/8 would be enough.
Interesting thoughts.
The FOV is a little narrower on the Sony? Or is it just me.
Yes it is a bit narrower on the Sony even with the Viltrox 13mm lens is because of the APSC crop, plus the additional crop when recording 4K@30.
@@WORTHITORNOT I hope the ZV-E10M2 will be something like A6700 stripped down the EVF, mechanical shutter and cheaper frame and maybe even the IBIS for 800-900$
so we will get 4K30&60 without crop and 4K120 with, 10bit, and only 1.1 crop for EIS... (and 4K30 "webcam")
It's decent for a low budget production but the difference in quality is not even close in my opinion.
Indoors I agree, but outdoors with plenty of light, the Pocket 3 has a fantastic image quality
Sure! Absolutely. I was commenting on the studio thing hehehe. Pocket 3 is a best considering the price@@WORTHITORNOT
and now people are having that screen not turning or snapping back or getting stuck 1/2 way
Interesting, I’ve only seen one video of that when he 1st turned it on out of the box. Wonder if there will be more people having screen issues.
@@WORTHITORNOT Lol thanks, that was fast. Indeed I just read the manual, even firmware update is possible with the USB-C port.
I might get one, about $50
Main difference...... how much the Sony costs.
Ha! 😂👍
and the lens and a gimbal because the stabilisation suck on the ZV-E10
@@TRunner4 Yes both were shooting 4K@30
Don't make me spend more money Andre!
Who me ? Affiliate links in the pinned comment lol
I see people trying to use it as a studio camera and it's seriously unwatchable.. It's main purpose is not for the studio and it shows the digital noise is prominent and it makes it almost unwatchable it's very muddy
But for those on a budget and can't afford multiple cameras, this can work IMO. Thanks for the comment
@@WORTHITORNOT that I agree with 100%.. for its actual purposes it's great.. One thing I found is there's extreme banding in blue skies which is a common problem but the sensor just can't handle it.
only 9 megapixels, at least 12 would have been nice
Well for achieving better low light they went with lower megapixels but 9MP is still okay as you need a 8MP for good 4K
But why isn't it having the Bokeh effect in the indoor conditions of your room??
The distance of the Pocket 3 to me is why, if it were closer it would have bokeh
Shame it's not waterproof
fstop is a bit different here. sooooo. Still Sony looks way better
First impression, the background is much better look with the pocket 3, your face is much better with sony ZV-E10
