「我們要把中國共產黨和優秀的中國人民區分開。我想藉着普天同慶農曆新年的時候，祝大家新年快樂。兔年代表長壽、 繁榮與和平。在此我記掛在新疆營內維吾爾族穆斯林人民。我也記掛西藏的少數民族、自由被壓制的香港人，以及被折磨威脅的台灣人。我特別想念黎智英、黃之鋒、陳日君樞機，以及許多被關押在香港的民運人士。我也想念法輪功、中國的宗教信徒和自由與真理的捍衛者， 如張展。她因尋求有關Covid的真相而被關押在武漢。在新一年，讓我們從劉曉波的話得到啟發。諾貝爾獎得主劉曉波這樣說：『言論自由是人權之基、人性之源、真理之母。扼殺言論自由就是踐踏人權，扼殺人性 ，壓制真理。』所以在這農曆新年， 讓我們期待徹底改變。」

Lord Alton of Liverpool, Patron of Hong Kong Watch, says to you this Lunar New Year:
“It’s right to make a distinction between the Chinese Communist Party and the remarkable Chinese people and I’d like to take this opportunity, as people all over the world are celebrating the Chinese New Year, to wish them a wonderful New Year. A Year of the Rabbit, which is marked by longevity, prosperity, and peace. In doing so, I wanted - also remember though - the Uyghur Muslim people in the camps in Xinjiang. I want to remember the ethnic minorities in Tibet, the people of Hong Kong, whose freedoms have been suppressed, and the beleaguered and threatened people of Taiwan. In particular, I think of Jimmy Lai, of Joshua Wong, of Joseph Zen, and the many pro-democracy activists who are incarcerated in Hong Kong. And I think of Falun Gong, Chinese religious adherents and champions of freedom and truth like the young woman, Zhang Zhan, imprisoned in Wuhan for seeking the truth about Covid. On this Chinese New Year, let’s be inspired by the words of Liu Xiaobo. He said this. The Nobel laureate, Liu Xiaobo: “Freedom of expression is the foundation of human rights, the source of humanity, and the mother of truth. To strangle freedom of speech is to trample on human rights, stifle humanity, and suppress truth.” So on this Chinese New Year, let’s hope for fundamental change.”
