35 Locks in ONE DAY! Tardebigge Lock flight

- Because of an error we find ourselves confronted with 36 locks- the Tardebigge Lock Flight. We had previously offered to 'lock' Jono up the flight but now find that we must take the two boats in convoy with just three people.

My husband and I are traveling from the states specifically to narrow boat vacation in the summer.....only 4 locks during the whole trip over a week....wanted to edge into it slowly.......and we can praise your UA-cam channel as one of our top inspiration.....you are my husband’s favorite .....

Those locks are fantastic, there are just too many! The last couple of times we (a crew of 5) passed down that flight the locks were mostly only taking 5 to 7 minutes from leaving one lock to leaving the next, which is just silly! It helped that at the bottom of the main flight of 30ish from Tardebigge there was a great pub/carvery, brilliant roast washed down by Scrumpy Jack which gave us the energy for the rest of the flight down to Worcester. Your video brought back some great memories! Thanks!
It has been great following the Jono Experience mini series, getting both boats up between the three of you deserves serious respect (and points). It has brightened my days to watch you on Wednesday, and see the Jono perspective over weekend breakfast. Hope you both recover from the experience and keep smiling

On a normal day, I love you narrowboat UA-camrs. You two Kath and Anna, David, Jasmin, Lorna, will have to check out Jono's channel now, Shaun and Colin, etc because you folks present such a different world than the one I live in. It seems so nice, peaceful, no telephones or emails, not a spreadsheet in sight. A wonderful escape from the daily grind, where the world reverts to canal time. I cherish the time greatly, it's a tremendous stress reliever.
Today, I've just finished the worst week I've had in memory, with today being the worst of that week. All the normal stresses of life and work, plus another issue caused by extended family. Stress level off the chart, taking care of a situation that's NOT of my own making, tremendous lifelong consequences for multiple people involved, and I'm the one to put the pieces back together and clean up the mess. Why me? There's no one else, full stop. So, I did it. Got it handled. Monsters slain, damsels rescued, castle rebuilt. Time to get back to normal life and tend to my own wounds gained in the adventure, process lessons learned and my sadder wiser new view of the world.
That whole back story was to explain why today of all days, a new long NBE video was exactly what I needed to help maintain sanity and restore my center.
This novel of a comment is to say THANK YOU so much for producing these videos and sharing them with us. You're having a tremendously positive influence in the world, and I hope you realize it.

Back in the sixties the crews of the working boats often had a member going ahead on a bike to set the locks. Yes I have been gongoozling that long but didn't know I was at that time.
again i say Canal lock Mania ,, what madness drive such a course ?? sounds like on a dare , someone offers to help on a Daunting task ,, not sure i would have willingly agreed -- so now you can say you have proof of how many canal boaters it takes to get thru 36 locks in 1 day oh my , my hats off -- well done all !

Afternoon ladies, yes another great video and Jono and molly, all your videos you have made with Jono and molly have been just great fun to watch most enjoyable, when Jono goes is way and you to go your way I think you will miss each other so much ,I think you will meet up with Jono and molly to do some more videos all together,got to say all them locks looks hard work especially when you have so many to do but you are saving money not going to the gym lol have lots of fun,John 🌧⛈🌨❄️☃️

Loved the bit of video from 11:40 to 12:53 as it showed how the front end of the boat lifts first as it's where the water's let into to the lock.

It was great fun .... but very exhausting. I think one boat and 4 crew is a better idea than 2 boats with 3 crew (or 3 boats with 5 crew which is what we ended up with at the end)
That was absolutely epic!! You all did such a fabulous job together, we've loved The journey together with lazy days and Jono. What a fab team you are together! It's so sad to know that you've split now and gone your separate ways but thank you for sharing this delightful adventure with all of us. I've really enjoyed it!!! 😊💖

I was there in June with my father and a friend and did the flight with a hire boat (to the spot where you moored up for the night) in 6 hours. It was good practice :P

I know there were two boats, but there were three of you to share the work. All those locks are not too bad during the summer with the longer days.
That looks like it makes a really long day, with darkness and rain to boot at the end. Interesting looking up the history on the Tardebigge locks on CRT's website; quite a feat to construct all those years ago.
I'm betting Cath slept well that night. You looked pooped and only got worse. Once again a pleasant adventure with you both. Thanks for the effort to include us who enjoy you.
Problem with two boats is that the second boat will always have the lock set against it. Makes more work but makes sure you'll sleep that night.
On this journey, most of the locks were full when we got there with the first boat so we were emptying all of them twice, three times after the other boat caught up with us. It was hard work but good fun and we did indeed sleep well that night!
Well done ladies loved watching this it was done so well it was as if I was traveling with you both on the boat, good luck with the blackening I've seen a video of it being done and it looks quite strenuous and it seems that you have to be very particular about doing it correctly, so enjoy it if you are helping and if you're going elsewhere then enjoy that also

Annamarie you should get a point for every gate you open, not each pair of gates, Kath and Jono should allow this as you are awesome at it! Kath and Jono should get a point each for each pair of lock gates they complete, and only half a point if they just open but don't close them or close them but don't open them. That system seems fair! A Fan from Aus

I'm late to the party as usual, but in this case I am glad I am late cause that looked like a lot of hard work and a little bit of fun. At my age I can handle the fun, but hate the work part. I think you ladies need an electric bike to save some of your energy to open those locks and paddles. Thanks for allowing us to come along on this journey with all six of you. I did miss seeing the cats on this one. = (

Goodness, that exhausted me!! How on earth would Jono have managed without you girls?? Was impressed by the closing of one lock gate with an outstretched leg while the rest of you stayed on the other gate. Guess you were past caring by then?!

I would like to learn more about what goes on with the cranking and pushing open and closing of locks, as we don't have those to speak of across the pond, hehe
I have noticed that the locks have one gate at one end but two at the other. I would have thought that having the one gate to work would make life more easy. It it something to do do with the wight of the water. Yes I did notice the gaff seems every one else did

Well done you two. When I worked the flight in the 1960s lock ladders did not exist you had to use the steps at the tail of the lock or if you missed them climb on the roof and clamber out. No such thing as Health and safety in those days.
I'm not sure the lock ladders are particularly safe.... but they sound better than clambering off the roof without them!

yes you do as its 2 separate boats going in separately therefore your doing the locks twice
I think we are all curious what was wrong with the paperwork which also caused you to do all these locks only to have to go back down (?) for your blacking appointment.
The boat company have a base at the top and bottom of the flight of locks. We didn't know about the base at the top of the locks and had assumed that we only needed to be at the bottom. However, on the booking form, it clearly states (if you read it) top of the locks. It is likely that if we had read the form, we wouldn't have made the booking!
Would love to do that flight. Will lend a hand if you do it again 😁
