With this you have to charge them by the job not by hours cuz for 1-(well as for me) I rather pay them for the job and make it a done deal instead of a headache thinking them taking their time and whatnot to over charge me! And 2-is some of us are hard workers and really want to get the job done, some even skip meals trying to get the job done so that’s not good either cuz sometimes you get the job done too quick and not get paid like you deserve. So it’s either they accept me doing it that way or call someone else And they gonna know quick like that it’s better to pay people by the job than hourly!
Most people won’t even pay you by the hour. When you tell them your hourly rate their first question is “how long will it take?”. I always estimate my jobs at an average pace then when it comes time to get the work done I try getting it done faster that what I estimated it at.

I charge $120/hr. and stay BUSY. All word of mouth. Tearing out concrete, burying horses (even dug 2 human graves when city backhoe broke down after an hour and a half trying to get through 14 inches of frost, only took me 20 min with the frost spike), digging foundation footers, electric, water, and sewer ditches. Demolition, moving gravel, rock, top soil, tearing out trees and bushes. Yes, the mini excavator has made me 10x the money that my Cat 4x4 426b x-hoe ever made.
Thats awesome you cant beat that! I will check out this frost spike I’m not familiar with. I need to figure out how to get the transit receiver effectively on my boom
@@WorldsOkayestFarmer This is the receiver I am using. I like how large the arrows are and it's a heavy and rugged unit. I put it on the stick on one area between my thumb hoses and it works well for digging level foundation footers. Other times i use it on top of the blade by sticking it, with its magnets, to a 3x3x1/4" angle iron 4ft long that I put on the blade using a 2 inch hammer union for a mount. For that mount, I welded a 2 inch pipe nipple to the backside of the blade and welded another nipple to the angle iron and then simply screwed each half of the 2 inch union onto them so that i can quickly and firmly attach the angle iron receiver mount to my blade while grading driveways, building concrete floor pads, flat jobs, or i can do slopes with the sloping laser. I have to be careful spinning the excavator house around too much when the upright 4 foot long angle iron is on the blade though, because i tend to forget that it's there and I've caught it with the boom once and pulled the threads off one of the nipples lol. I also don’t need massive jobs to pay for it one day is profitable it’s a great market doing small jobs for people. No shame here
Great content I rent for now definitely could buy just have to decide skis steer or mini first rent both the same amount
Yes I just bought a skid steer also! I mean its nice renting and you build it into the price. until you rent and run into weather and can't use it then I would rather own.
Would you recommend a 2 ton to start out or 2.7 ton?
Whatever you can afford. Definitely 2.7 but 2 will get it done. I plan to upgrade to a E-42 or at least a 35 when my skid steer is paid off
@@WorldsOkayestFarmer I feel like the 2.7 opens me up to more jobs fpr what i want to do . I dont have a need for anything bigger as I just want to do property maintenance/landscaping. I know nothing about excavation. A skid steer is definitely my next buy.
@@ghostedwaffle2151 a lot of money to be made doing smaller jobs like I do. Guys with big payments don’t make them on household jobs
Some places you go to work to the expect you to know how to do it right away. If you have the experience if you don’t have experience, that’s why they expect you to know already had to work stuff. OK you’re starting out new you got to learn that’s where they post to teach you they hire you they post to teach you.
I bought an excavator and taught and work for myself
I need one of those
I just pick up a used cat 303.5. Never ran one and thought there would be some work available for it. Time will tell....
Steven Van you will stay busy
I bought a CAT 303.5 this summer. I absolutely love it. I've been around machines my whole life and it does 98% of the work I need it to do. I was so busy with it this last summer, it's incredible. I make good money as well.
Landon Rasmussen thats a nice machine is that your sole source of income?
@@WorldsOkayestFarmer I suppose at this point it is. My family has owned and operated an excavation company since before I was born but I just recently started doing jobs on my own. I can make more money in a day than I can in 2 weeks working for my families business.
Landon Rasmussen yep i still work full time but I do my 2 week pay check in sales in 2 to 3 days profit prob 4 days. I make more excavating then hauling but its all good
did you buy this mini out of springville, if you did i looked at that one.
Ray Ward i don’t remember southern ohio?
For the beginner would you recommend, the E10? or is the E10 too small in your opinion?
To small my e20 is small but can do a lot. I want to upgrade to a e-42 eventually
E35 is ideal in my opinion but I wouldn’t go smaller then a e20
can u pull that with a half ton pickup?
Yeah only weighs 4k
I would love to do jobs like that...does someone else do like the line itself...I dont know how to do that....Im thinking of getting into it in my semi retired age!..ha!
Yes I dug it for the power company. They run it. It was a service line.
With this you have to charge them by the job not by hours cuz for
1-(well as for me) I rather pay them for the job and make it a done deal instead of a headache thinking them taking their time and whatnot to over charge me!
What model is this one
Bobcat e-20
The ideal size is is a 35
Awesome, I would love to learn how to use an excavator if I could get someone to teach me.
I bought this excavator never having operating one.
Wow that’s great and you do a good job.
@@WaynesAdventure haha thanks
When you are in the woods like you are do you still call the locator service company to mark other lines?
You are supposed to. I normally have the customer call. Its free for them. This one i didnt because there is nothing but overhead power lines
Do we need to have any commercial contracting license? How do you Market yourself?
I do all my advertising on Facebook and restaurant placemats since its all local
Have you gone full time with this opportunity or just still part time? I’m just curious on how much I could make doing this full time. Thanks
K T i make enough to go full time i just have others working for me and try to remove myself. The big thing is health benefits thats why i still work a full time nightshift job
That’s good to hear! Keep on the good work!
Yes, benefits is always good to have!
You should think about doing a how to start video or course!
where in PA are you? great videos, my dad is from fredricktown PA
I want an excavator for when we build our house and I know the only way to afford it is to make it make money for us but man to find the time when you’re doing seven other things as well ha. Good on you!
Yeah I have managed to make it work. I want to upgrade to a e35 or kubota equivalent. I found a guy from youtube to run equipment for me. funny how that works.
How do you get started with getting customers?
Advertise on Facebook
Do you have your CDL license and also your contractors license??
No contractor license because i’m not building. No CDL because I don’t exceed 26000 gvw. I would like to get it though. To buy a 10 ton and also I can’t tow a trailer with my dump truck.
Where did you buy it
At the time a guy off Craigslist
Be nice if you could buy one around here with 100 hours for $20k. I’ve been searching for 6 months 3-4000 hours for $25-30,000
Cody Jones yeah its not always an option but they are out there
Ive got a e26 2019 with a thumb and 32 hours..Pretty much new for 29k still has the complete warranty 270/540/1088
Scott wilson Thats not a bad price im going to get a e35 next
Yea really....that's why I bought a brand new yanmar sv40
I finally bought one a Takeuchi tb230 with 1800 hours for $23,000 I like it so far
Where do you advertise on Facebook? Groups?
Market place or if you create a page you can pay to boost posts for advertising
Been excavating for 6 years Privately full time we have a newer cat but we started renting at first good tips for beginners.its definitely a nice way to earn a paycheck
A little back story you can rent monthly and safe a ton of you find a local renter we rented a john deere 35 for 1500 a month till I had the work load to buy a cat 305 for less 1200 a month that little 35 made me more money due to fuel consumption and ease of re locating to jobs but the larger machine is nice for pshiing trees over
Jonathan Harrington thank you
Jonathan Harrington great tips i want to move up to a 35 at some point
Where you finding these prices at lol

@@JoelNunezMusic no problem I appreciate the feedback
I have a 16ft dump trailer, a Johnson dual sloping self leveling laser level and a magnetized receiver that i can put on either my stick or my front blade and my machine is a 4 ton Yanmar Vio35-6A with a thumb, 38 inch flat bucket, 24 inch toothed digging bucket, and a frost spike.
But for a quick n dirty set up on the cheap, it has worked well and opened up the jobs I can confidently take on and made me lots of money.

This is the frost spike I ordered. It's $959 bucks well built unit but you may see if it would be cheaper to just fab up one at your local welding shop.

Best machines for us zero swing Kubota U17 and New Holland E35 👍
U17 nice equipment! I hope to upgrade in time

U17 all day! Only weakness is the swing motor. Much better drive motor for grading than the e20.
How do you find the jobs
I advertise on fb and other social media platforms
12" bucket an e20 or a cat 320 can only pull out so much material, you just don't have the breakout force and reach. I would love to do what you do, can you do a video on getting jobs
I have a couple business side of the house videos. They are more dump truck related on the picture but same way i get jobs doing this
....My situation is that I've just rented a Genie lift, but the ground slopes away from the roof...These newer lifts have an "incline cut- off" over the tiniest of slopes. It has to be used on level ground, not like old days when you were just "warned" about the incline. I think it's too much dirt for a skid- loader...
i bought a kubota u 17 (slightly smaller than your machine) for $11k at rebel auctions in south georgia. added a thumb and 5 more buckets still way under $20k. looking for a flail mower right now. already have a tracked skid loader and two dump trailers. trying to get the word out to lock up some more jobs. much more optimism since trump won. we'll see.

Hydraulic motor I believe from USA.
Some hydraulic parts from Korea.
Some valves from Italy.
Other parts from China.
