I have the KX0-40. I searched for videos showing one running a mulching head. I'm really glad I found you video because it was exactly what I was looking for. You provided an excellent summary of why the 40 can be used with a mulching head and I don't have to spend a $100,000 on a big tracked skid steer with a $30,000 mulching head attached to it.
It's helpful that you posted a video of a smaller mini excavator running a mulcher... but I think it's a bit misleading and perhaps will convince someone to go down the wrong path. I talked to people in land clearing businesses and said they tried (or started on) a non-CDL / cheaper setup like this said they ended up upgrading to a larger machine 1-2 years later. They sold the smaller machine because it was pointless with a bigger machine. Fact is, if you're trying to make money, you can't compete against folks in a 20,000 LB high flow machine, which will do the job better and faster without any downside (yes they're slightly bigger, but not enough to matter). Most mulching jobs are best done with a skidsteer and when an excavator is needed, it's really needed (AKA big stable machine with far reach). If you look around, mulching is very competitive business... many people who got the equipment and looking for work and you gotta stand out somehow. The folks with a small machine like this wont be getting much work or they'll be working cheap - they'll end up with tiny undesirable jobs the other guys don't have time for and these jobs a guy can do a better job with a chainsaw + wood chipper. Something else to point out, is you can clearly the large chunks left behind...many customers wont find this acceptable.
Hi , thanks for your information, I have been researching 3.5 ton minis and mulchers for use here in Cape Breton. Your video is validating my research, thanks 👍
I've been watching closely since you got the 040 to see how it performs. I'm currently running a SVL95 with a UML/VT-175 in Manitoba and want to add an excavator and mulcher. I was thinking an 080 but I'd only really use it for steep road ditches so was thinking about going smaller. It's pretty flat here so my SVL does almost everything. Like you said, that VT motor is worth every penny. Keep up the great commentary, you explain things very well.
Tyson I’ve been running a KX057-4 with a FAE HY100 on it for 2 years here in South Carolina and it works great!! I like the new set-up keep putting up the mulching videos, there great..
We have to move the mulcher head on a separate rig from the excavator that runs it. That’s how we get around the weight restrictions of the vehicles and licensing. Have a class a commercial license but not everyone that works here does. Yeah it takes 2 trucks to move the equipment to the job but thats what it takes sometimes. One day will look at a larger dump and trailer. But for now this gets it done for us.
New subscriber here, really enjoyed the info you put into this video. I really was skeptical until I have seen a few videos of yours. I almost purchased a used kx141-4 but passed, had too many hours to suite me. I will be watching more of your videos in the future. Thanks for sharing and God bless!
Do you bid these job by the hour or by the job, or by mile/ kilometer. And can you give me a ballpark idea of what you think you can gross per operating hour. Also is the new model head they are coming out with any better or would you start stay with your setup if you were buying new today. Thx,for all the information. Very informative and professional.
Here in Ontario you need an AR license to pull a trailer that's over 10,000 lbs. If the trailer is over 6100 lbs than the trucks reg. weight has to include the weight of the trailer. Your annual sticker for the truck gets pretty expensive quickly. My 2500HD is reg. for 4500kg and the sticker is $270. Doesn't make sense if your towing something for personal use you only need a G license. So you can tow a 5th wheel 40' trailer to Florida on a G license.
Figured you were keeping busy. Like a giant chainsaw.... gotta keep those rpms up.... yeah young in good shape...older hopefully smarter.... let the machines sweat... ha ha ha...great vid.
using flail mowers are more for yearley mowing hedge cutting maintenence and wont fling the debris as far as the mulcher more for woody branches small trees and thicker brash

I haven’t even been able to find out your name but I am so impressed with your knowledge and your success and your hard work. Wondering if you will make that into your permanent all year around home or maybe you will fix it up and sell it I wish I could find out your business history how you got started look forward to seeing more of your work thank you Peter

As a matter of fact after watching I'm pretty sure I broke 3 ribs compressed 4 disc and cracked a vertebrae in my neck...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Beautiful work my man.. Good video, I'm in Oregon. I have a TB260 and I have acreage of my own I need to clear and trying to decide what brush cutter to get. I'm also thinking of getting into the brush clearing business. I have been considering trading my Takeuchi TB260 in on a TB290 and getting the whole forestry package. I'm just not sure what the market is like for available work in my area. I also thought of just keeping the TB260 and buying a TL12V2 High Flow skid steer with the forestry package and mulcher head.
How are you getting these jobs clearing towers and ROW's? I'm in the south and been doing clearing for home owners here in the south but would like to expand into more of this. Thanks!

Want to find a mini that is stable and a basic light cutter that can reach down up to 10' and cut while tracking......even if just a very slow crawl. Have good operators, just dont know what machine and cutter fits the bills. Think i will need a 3.5-4 ton. Any tips or suggestions.

We have a KX080 on order and our dealer here likes to pair them with a Loftness Battle Axe 51" mulching head. We were concerned because it doesn't have doors that can be closed to direct the mulch downward. Do you have any experience or know of them? What's your opinion on the need for side doors?
workplaytv question what should I look for condition wise and are their any good questions to ask when buying a used trailer to haul a Utv that is about 12 ft long?
What is the advantage of running the excavator mulcher vs a skid steer mulcher? It seems like the roadside jobs would be easier in a skid steer mulcher but I'm sure I'm missing something.
Skid steers have certain abilities over mini ex's and vice versa. Usually it boils down to sizing the machine appropriately, fitting the right implement, and how talented the operator can get.
About to pull the trigger on a bobcat e35r2 and a rut mfg brush cutter. The demand for this type service where I live is to much for me to not take the opportunity…anyway since our setup is about the same size I’d like to know what your hourly rates are…I was thinking around $200 ?
Hey new subscriber here I work and run my company here in Ontario and I’m breaking into mulching mind if I ask what was the head worth when you purchased it and your current hourly rate for the 4 ton and mulcher?
Mucho Gracious it’s not really more stress on the engine. The RPMs only go so high so if you run it wide open which most people do under any application it’s not really doing anymore. Only thing may be welds and such where you have the weight of head out front

What is the advantage of running the excavator mulcher vs a skid steer mulcher? It seems like the roadside jobs would be easier in a skid steer mulcher but I'm sure I'm missing something.
Land is too uneven and rocky here. Also getting ditches and stuff you can articulate the head on an excavator.
Would a flail mower be much different on a excavator this size?
I’ll never use a flail . They get bound up on them selves . I stick to the fixed tooth

Well I have sold this setup a month ago. The head was around $22k and I was charging $105/hr
Why an excavator over a skid steer for a job like this? Like why the 080-4 vs a ASV or TL12r
Land is too uneven and full of rock for a skid
