A "couple missteps" Huber? Once or twice where the story "missed the mark"? I just beat the game. And personally feel like there isn't a single moment after the castle that is scary, and most of it is overly scripted sequences, or just action heavy shoot em up's. Plus the factory, and it's conclusion, had me actually shouting out in dissapointment at the screen. What the hell were they thinking? It was a complete train wreck of a second half. Just sucks, I enjoyed the first half so wholeheartedly and just kept waiting for it to reach those highs again! I'm being vague so that people can experience it themselves, but just want to point out that it is barely a survival horror game after the castle is done. And that gets wrapped up very early. Does anyone feel the same way? Please don't leave spoilers in the comments though. Don't want to ruin the surprises for people. At least some of the notes near the end are cool
@@TheABElia I think that's BS personally. Easy Allies are some of the most genuine dudes imo. I do think Huber is more leniant on gamea than any of them tho, and has a soft spot for resident evil.
Oh this game was totally a let down. Such terrible level design in this game. Every area was linear with the illusion of exploration. No resource management at all as you we’re just given loads of stuff. RE7 was perfect for resource management as you actually had to care about what you picked up, and which items to mix. This game was made for the masses. It’s like a greatest hits album essentially.

It might be underrated from reviewers perspective, but Resident Evil Village is the 2nd best selling game of 2021. This game is a huge success for Capcom.
This was reviewed by Huber. Honestly, it's not scary whatsoever. It has a 'scary' gothic horror setting and aesthetic in the same way Castlevania does, but just like that franchise it's not scary.
I loved mercenaries in RE 4-5, especially how it let you choose different characters. It might be one of the best side modes (outside of the main game) in all of gaming.

Only thing that felt off to me in this review is the mention that Ethan is less capable than Leon and Jill. Maybe story wise since he doesn't have training (although isn't he like super resistant to damage or has some kind of super healing?), but gameplay wise he's up there with them it seems like. Huge arsenal, can take down hordes of enemies, blocking and counter with a melee. Some of this is more than what Leon could do in RE2 Remake for instance.

i would rather get an idea by comparing with RE7 than just sayng 15 hours. For Re7, I heard lot of reviewers claiming 12 to 15+... but at release, many players reported 5 to 8 hours. I visited the house again every time i got a new item to never miss any secrects ... turned out it was a waste of time, and with all this time wasted for nothing, i finished RE7 in less than 9h ... i would have finished the game in 6h otherwise.
Its how you play. Do you rush and wont look in chambers etc or do you walk calmly and look everywhere. Those who say 15hours took their time. 8hours where rushing

Just wanted to say this is probably my favorite Resident Evil next to 4. It’s right there with it. In fact there are moments in this game where you feel more terrified and overwhelmed than in RE4 which is a huge plus. The first encounter with all the werewolves is so intense and difficult on hardcore mode. It took me 2 hours to get through that part cuz I had no idea where to go
I am much too afraid to play this game myself - so i will look forward to the full playthrough streams. I am just happy that it was good because that makes Huber happy. Great review!

And 8/10 is a good rating... anyways, on to some of my gripes: 1) on the standard difficulty it is waaaay too easy 2) the bosses are all visually well designed but anticlimactic, harder enemies are also unremarkable bullet sponges 3) not enough enemy variety 4) for a 'survival horror' game it's very easy to survive and it's not very horrifying. It's like Castlevania, it borrows from horror stories but it is not scary whatsoever.
Had mixed feelings about the demos (maybe it was the time limit creating an unnatural environment?), the world and enemies didn't fill me with dread like they did in RE7. They felt oddly out of place and like carbon copies of one another too... but, happy to see it's a 9/10!

Huber says 15hrs which is 6hrs longer than RE7's base game length. Seems like based on chosen difficulty setting (Normal seems pretty easy considering how much of a tank Ethan is in the demo) and how much exploring you do the game can take 10-15hrs which is a decent length imo as long as you don't compare it to RE6 (lol).

This game traded the pure dread and claustrophobia of RE 7 with a more tense gameplay alike RE 4 with a more eerie atmosphere.
Absolutely loved Resident Evil 7. Can't wait for the remake of RE 4

I thought Capcom said that this was supposed to be particularly long RE-entry? That seems like the only major dissappointment, as I rarely tend to RE-play these games
Huber says 15hrs which is 6hrs longer than RE7's base game length.
Seems like based on chosen difficulty setting (Normal seems pretty easy considering how much of a tank Ethan is in the demo) and how much exploring you do the game can take 10-15hrs which is a decent length imo as long as you don't compare it to RE6 (lol).
Gonna be that guy, it's Castle Dee-Ma-Tresc if you've played it you've heard the NPCs say it.
