The topology stuff is super interesting to me. Is there a whole area to study about the relationship between box and smooth mode, or is the math at a level of complexity where its really not practical and best to just sort of tweak stuff until it works, avoiding triangles, T's, n-gons and obviously funky shapes?

The box display is generally the best way to model the concept. you can use the control display Alt + 2 that will let you work on the box and show the smooth. The math in the back is looking at the direction and influence of the box to make the smooth. In the first forms video we talked about the 2d spline and how that relates to the box/smooth display.
Generally if the box display crosses itself or isn't visually consistent you will have problems with the smooth display. That is about as far as I would worry about it.

When you fix those quads that have the shape of a triangle, why don't you just move the vertex so it becomes non triangular? (Possibly move it in depth a little bit too.)

When you have a T point where one edge ends in the middle of the other edge, the edge where the T is formed really should stay coliniear. The reason for this is because when that edge is broken the surface does some very weird stuff. So whenever you are using T points like that you want to keep it straight. You could use the repair utility and convert the t point to a star point and it might have worked out ok.

Why you don't use 0 for scale value when you want to bring something to one plane? I tied 0 and it looks fine, does exactly what I want :)

Excellent question and observation! The main reason? Habit :) I never manually enter values and usually just drag it close to 0 and the reason is because of how Fusion behaves when you hit Enter. It doesn't just accept the input it ends the entire Edit Form. So in all honesty I had never even tried to enter a 0. I will be sure to point that out next time we use that in a video!!!! Thanks

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign I usually just hit TAB, then it applies the value but remains in editing mode. It changes selection to next modification tool or different axis so it's important to control what you are doing next ;)

Hey, I’m trying to reverse engineer a design I’ve had made for me and I’d love to see you have a go if you would like to. I’ve learned a lot from your videos so far

Hello, if i create box form i can copy paste multiple times. But if i create pipe after clicking finish form then also if i create box form i can't copy paste them together after clicking finish form. What can i do? If i click edit feature on one of them i can't see other form body.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Рік тому

The pipe form is a little different as it maintains some history in the Browser and you can edit it. Are you creating all the forms in the same feature? or in individual features? If you copy a pipe form while still editing it will break the link to the "Pipe" in the browser and copy it exactly how it is at that moment. After you finish it should be treated like any other surface or solid.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign They weren't in same form. Created seperately. I only finded "save as mesh" option. I can insert to another file but this time i can not edit :S

did you try allready try and play with those tools like automated modeling, generative design, or with the tools from physic Simulation to generate other specials designs?
I still very impressed by the chair ua-cam.com/video/2PsssMI0Yw0/v-deo.html and I would like to play in this direction (not 5 axis cnc for 3D allien model just 2,5 axis, like 2,5D modell a bit special ) and all those tools are for Industry, not really for playing with the forms it look like easier to approch it with Forms or something betwin like easy Generative + easy Form. Ok sorry for confusing but I will be very interested with videos in this direction
thanks a lot for all the content you share

Hi, I think when this video was done it was before Automated Modeling was out, but I do have 2 videos on that topic. This series specifically is looking at just working with forms.
I do make videos for Autodesk as well and have several generative design courses on their Certify page for Generative Design.
But to answer your question on this.
Automated Modeling is great way to quickly connect a few things together with a form that you would want to then manipulate. It has no input of material or loads, its just shape exploration.
Generative design is great to produce models that are structurally design leaving the look as a biproduct of strength. The problem you run into with this is two fold. 1. you really have to have a solid grasp on the loads on your design for the outcomes to be anywhere near useful and 2. you need to know/be able to work with the end result to either inspire a final design or to make a design meets all your needs. Generative design does have 2x and 2.5x cutting but requires that all your preserve geometry is the same height. But the end result is a sketch/extrude.
The forms tool "Pipe" is a pretty good one to let you explore building a 3d sketch where you want your form to be and then using the pipe tool to make a lattice structure from it.
