He is not very powerful or skilled like the super soldier but the thing I like the most about him is his complex past and his deep emotions. In every movie when he appears he has some emotional connexion involved:
Guardians vol 1: His mother and his new friends
Guardians vol 2: His relationship with his father and with Rocket
Infinity War and Endgame the Loss of Gamora
Guardians Holiday special: His loneliness and relationship with Mantis
Guardians vol 3: Rocket and Gamora again and the future of his team.
I really like when the heroes have an emotional journey through the movie like Tony in Ironman 2 or Steve loneliness in Avengers and Winter soldier or even Thor in Thor 1 and Infinity War.

Man, I think that James should give him some special power or technique. Because apart from his deep and complex past and from being the leader Star Lord is pretty much a human Rocker is super smart, Drax and Groot are very powerful, Gamora and Nebula are Supersoldier black widows and even Mantis has many abilities. But apart from shooting and flying (rocket, gamora and nebula can do that) or his demi gods powers Star Lord cant do much.
Maybe he could improve and enhance that ability to create plans, like Batman, he could be a smart tactician that not even Rocket or Gamora could think in plans or analysis like that. He could be like analyzing enemies and his around in order to develop plans to defeat his opponent. He is pretty much like Flacon a very good and nice guy but man in a world with Ironman, Spidey, Cap, Hulk you need to be special. Even Scott Lang is very good improvising and adapting.
Agreed! hopefully he uses a lot more of his gadgets in his next appearance! I miss the helmet and jet boots!
rocket is more of a tech-smart than strategic smart. rocket has shown some stretegic smartness, his main intelegence is in field of engineering. and rocket has shown like very leadership and teamwork.

It can! But the mark 85 reworked some of the weapons by making them energy based to persevere the suits nanites! Like the shield and blades
