With this role, Plishka demonstrates how a singer can , over time , transition from singing leading bass roles to various character roles such as Dulcamara. All this he managed with dignity and class. He made his debut in 1967 as the Bonz , just two years after Milnes.

Saw these two at the Lyric Opera years ago in this same opera. So good I went twice and took my Mom, to whom Pavarotti gave a big kiss backstage. Pavarotti is gone but Paul Plishka is very much alive.
What a delight! Great voices, of course. But also, I love the way Pavarotti and Plishka sing their "roles". Both are so animated. Both obviously enjoyed singing this aria together. Bravo! Thank you so much for uploading this.
Pavarotti had a voice touched by god in the early part of his career after his first 20 years his singing just wasnt what it used to be which is natural cuz of age ...after 1979 he had a couple of moments where his voice seemed like it came back to life and this is one of those moments at least in my opinion i think this was superb just fantastic ...but pavarotti still is and always will be one of the best those early years of perfection put the bar very very high for any future tenors his voice was as close as you could get to perfection in his early career i just would like for people to pay more attention to the real pavarotti voice which again was in his early career and move the latter part of his career a bit to the side
+Babach Lovari I agree. Most people do not realize just how much hidden effort goes into singing well and as you get older so does your voice. He could still rise to the occasion but it does beat the hell out of you. One exception comes to mind and that one is Bjorling.

Definitely one of Pavarotti's most enjoyable performances on television thanks in no small part to his rapport with Plishka.
Grande Luciano, ottimo Plishka, bravo il direttore!!!
Amazing... Both excellent singers, great performance!
Piacevolissimo duetto,qui Lucianone è meraviglioso!
How YOUNG Plishka looks! But then, we ALL were young in '88....
Love them both in this duet. A joyous performance!
UN DUO MAGNIFICO
Pavarotti is electrifying vocally and visually....goosebumps all the way once he really lets go with that unmistakable tone and brilliance.
Goosebumps are good to keep your geese from escaping.
1:49 increíble, el mejor Dulcamara. Grande Paul Plishka. Y Pavarotti con su mejor voz en un Nemorino inigualable!!!

Un aria muy dificil por un bajo
Luciano the best tenor ever!
This is absolutely precious!
Glorious !!!!
Great. Thanks for sharing this.
Meravigliosi!
He was always my fave tenor. My mother favored Placido. I was unimpressed. Luciano had a life and incandescence about him.
I agree. I've seen both live in Toronto and Carreras too and Pavarotti was always #1 to me. Now I don't know who is #1 I still listen to Pavarotti LOL
Agreed!

Your mom is a lucky lady! I'm a bit jealous for that kiss. I wish I had born 20 years earlier so I could have had a chance to meet him as an adult...

Only Italians (or native Italian speakers-think Corena) can really do justice to basso buffo roles. At least that's been my experience.
You really are right. In fact, Plinska cannot keep up with the speed of music and at 5:18 minutes he loses the thread of his "speech".
An Italian tells you that he knows the work by heart for all the parts of the characters
Poor Paul, he messes up at 5:13, and looks so ashamed
I think is normal to make a mistake so specially with so many repetitions.

It is a very difficult duett for a bass voice, my dear. Cannot play too much with the words here...

este duetto con pliska no me piachee
A Pavarotti aunque con su timbre hermosisimo que tenía, le falta un toque de elegancia que otros tenores imprimieron en este papel.
