The civilian with the messed up detection is a pretty common bug. Units end up visually appearing in the wrong place, while a "ghost" with their actual statistical/mechanical position exists somewhere else.
I had a time this happened to me, with my own troops, and advent, basically every move. This is fixed by re-loading, but the bug popped up again EVERY TURN for THREE MISSIONS STRAIGHT. I abandoned that campaign out of exasperation.
These soldier names are amazing. Though this run was clearly cursed... If anyone wants to die of alcohol poisoning, take a shot every time the soldiers miss an 80%+ shot.

Old comment, I know, but my headcanon has always been that the blue holographic look of the meme beacon is for player's visual clarity, and for enemies it actually looks identical to the real soldier. Now, why do they just accept that there are 2 of the same dude and the second one has appeared out of thin air is a different question XD
@@kindatimin the chaos of combat, it can be quite difficult to identify that is the case. The ones immune to it like the chosen probably figured out that it's a mimic that's playing as a soldier. And I figured that's how it worked, but I just wanted to make a bad joke.
One comment on the Spark use at the 20:00 minute mark. You used overdrive before starting to shoot them, lowering the aim on consecutive shots. If you rely on 100% kills first you get your action refunded as usual and without aim penalty. you can still activate overdrive at any time for multiple sots on tougher targets or less secure kills later.
Yeah I was thinking about this challenge and it really shows how important the utility items are also the templars and Grenadines really came in clutch great work on this
Hey Drifter, at 1:01:57, the UI being finicky can be avoided by pressing the "Enter" key to avoid any additional mouse movement. Super useful for grenade and heavy weapon use, too
It would be interesting to start seeing some modded runs. For example, the Heal Bomb could have provided long-range healing via grenadier. You could, theoretically, have your own Steam Mod Packs as collections of mods based on different runs you did so folks could go to Steam, download the mod pack, and try the run themselves when you put up the videos (community engagement).

I'm pretty sure that the Hunter UFO mission is a one time thing, so if you roll it in a Dark Event, you can safely ignore it because you'll successfully evade it should it get a lock on you.
Somehow, with the tens of hunter UFOs I've encountered, I've never seen the avenger avoid it successfully when that "Interception imminent" pops up. This is the first time I've seen the avenger avoid the ufo with its dodges
yep that’s exactly right if you have done at least one UFO defense mission if there are anymore then you have a chance to avoid it but don’t count on luck as you know Xcom’s going to Xcom
I just picked this game up. I haven't played it in like 4 years and it was on sale. I came up on a pod with a purifier right next to a couple civilians. After watching these videos I had to drop a claymore. I also had to throw a grenade on top of that. Needless to say the pod went down, but there was a few civilian casualties.

On the Avenger defense missions, the negative number happens when bonus soldiers appear. So, whatever you start with is what the game registers as the number you need to have return. But, if Babeford sends out more soldiers to help, however many show up cause the number to go into the negative.

I honestly felt mad FOR you. I raged at this game by proxy. To be clear I love this game but I get the kind of luck displayed in this video and as a result I haven’t played in a long time.
Nice one - btw there are classes that you could mod in and do 'only %class' runs; I saw some used on a different stream, but I never really saw how good they really were (guys with shields)
(For context: this is a plant x4 charge mission with a small compound in the starting area and a large compound with the x4 target, with a large no man’s land in between. The first 2 pods consisted of a heavy mech, an elite trooper, 2 codexes, and an andromedon. I killed them by hacking and controlling the heavy mech and just raining grenades and missles and a couple bits on gunfire to mop up.) After this I set my whole squad up on top of the building in the starting compound and ran the heavy mech across the no man’s land to bait the remaining 2 pods back to the starting compound because there was a full health berserker queen and I wanted to abuse LOS with snipers. Well the mech got off a hit on a priest before it died and the queen starts charging across no man’s land. The priest runs out WITH NO COVER AND HALF HEALTH AND USES HOLY WARRIOR ON THE FULL HEALTH QUEEN. My snipers took out the priest and the queen died without ever getting shot 😂😂😂
I usually keep my rangers at mid distance and let advent come closer before using swords so I rarely give them shotguns. Plus you dont have to research the shotgun upgrades, but maybe I havent given them a fair shake.
I've seen that negative soldier count bug on the Avenger defense mission too. No idea what caused it though. It does seem to be both super rare and harmless (as long as you know if you really still have soldiers outside the zone or not).
Drifter, I watched you video on how to use the starting soldiers mod and wanted to try and use it. I noticed that in generated any soldier other then the Sparks ( only they dont work) and wanted to ask you what you did to get them to be generated from the start for your Spark only run. For the line in the starting soldiers file I have "+CHARACTER_INFO=(SoldierName="Spark-666",SoldierClass="Spark",SoldierRank=2)" .
The Spark has to be in the character pool, otherwise the mod won't generate it. Also, some people told me they got it to work by replacing the '+' at the start of the line with a full stop.

Maybe this is the way to enjoy the game for the longest of times, because I tried to beat it regularly on legendary difficulty and found you could not do it all the time since so much luck is involved to survive the early game with kevlar armour. I think you should have allowed items like Sustain Sphere. It only triggers if your soldier is downed. Without healing it isn't really impacting the mission, only the campaign. You can also could gave just committed to not using that soldier and turned it into a "wounded soldier moving towards MEDVAC" After all the Wraith suit gives you extra dodge It's crazy how you played this run closer to my weird playstyle. I love primaries. You see the target, you shoot the target. I need to watch the stream to see how you've managed to get the hack objectives without gremelins. I don't think I'd have sticked to the game if I had to be up close like I used to do when I started playing. PS: How is a priest even able to holy warrior their elder overlord? They're supposed to be their gods. They are powering them. Hey, at least the game acounts it isn't a normal human unit!
Would it be possible to beat the game without firing a gun? Everything would be allowed except guns. That would mean you can’t take out chosen as there is no way to damage sarcophagus (unless I’m missing out something) and the late game would probably be hell and bladestorm cheesing
How about a NO RESEARCH run? Only story research is allowed, and you can use whatever comes from that. But no optional research allowed, including weapon upgrades.
He took the difficult 1 step Back to veteran (used to play it in commander) exactly because of how long the campaing takes (as research, time to build things, etc). Long war is long, as the name says. He puts a vídeo a month, can’t imagine he only lives of revenue, so I don’t think long war is coming any time.
So what if you did a convsntial weapens run. Your allowed to use anything I currently military may have a few examples being. Experimental grenades such as fire or gas grenades Heavy weapens such as rockets. Flamethrower or shredder guns All the weaves are available. The big thing is you cannot upgrade to magnetic or guase weapens All the ammo are fine since l all have a modern equivalent. No restrictions on armor as this run would already be brutal as is. You should gicd it a shot though

Let's be honest, the RNG god of the XCOM franchise is an angry god, easily angered and prone to devious vengeance.
Using grenades on civilians is the same as not even bringing them for gameplay purposes.

So what if you did a convsntial weapens run.
Your allowed to use anything I currently military may have a few examples being.
Experimental grenades such as fire or gas grenades
Heavy weapens such as rockets. Flamethrower or shredder guns
All the weaves are available.
The big thing is you cannot upgrade to magnetic or guase weapens
All the ammo are fine since l all have a modern equivalent.
No restrictions on armor as this run would already be brutal as is. You should gicd it a shot though
Personally I would allow any passive utility items, they would really compensate for lack of grenades.
Another great run, pushing through despite all of the frustrations. Some of those missed-shot streaks were insane!
I'm sorry though, I can't help but cringe at some of your concealed scout placements that get you revealed due to "pure bad luck".
Curious how it would play if you played xcom but picked the least optimal promotion paths for each class.
I've considered this too.
