In crow nest if you take the normal route on normal difficulty and get to the first elevator, if you instead jump on the rail to the right and go around the elevator without looking at the water then jump down a crate will spawn and a marine will climb on it and start teabaging it on solo
If you just fly through everything you skip checkpoints and then realize you have to go back to get them, or you miss loading points, and it’s annoying if I want to beat my best time
* fast breathing in and out * i juST LEFT RESEARCHING WILLIAM AFTON AND LEFT TO THIS VIDEO FOR A BREAK- XD i cant even.. this is halarious. every corner i turn i see him.. but anyways, yes. finish the fight.
Halo 3's cutscenes not only render in-engine, but also in-game. This is how you're able to skip certain cutscenes like Johnson getting kidnapped without missing the story beats, or even some of the animations. Master Chief and Arbiter are locked into scripted animations, but other actors just freeze until the cutscene is finished. The oversight with this method is that their physics don't freeze, so we've previously been able to get them into cutscenes using jump tricks and good timing, but it's almost impossible to accurately aim the jump for a good angle. Given that you were able to do this by accident with Acrophobia, we may now be able to get more consistent angles upon revisiting this trick
You can also save Johnson because of this. If you pick up a bubble shield in the previous level and carry it all the way through to the control room, you can throw it over Johnson just before the cutscene starts and 343 won't be able to kill him.
It’s just an old joke on this channel. Elijah has to change his Gamertag from RocketJah to RocketElijah because people kept calling him Jon. And people used to think that Luke was Luke the notable
On Sierra 117, I was the third player and when I got to the cutscene with my cousins, I was able to move and walk around while it was playing and I saw the Arbiter and Chief just looking at the brutes while I was fighting
The ending cutscene on the final mission didn't play because you weren't in a vehicle. Because there is two vehicles you could use to jump into the hangar (Ghost or Warthog), the game must therefore check which one you are using just before the cutscene starts (so that it can use the right vehicle for the jump animation). If I had to guess, the code looks something like this: if (player.vehicle == warthog){ cutscene1.play(); } else if (player.vehicle == ghost){ cutscene2.play(); } There is probably no default option in the code because you normally can't get into the hangar with no vehicle.
For the record alot of these occurrences already have explanations, the speedrunning community discovered most of the soft locks and triggers for them years ago
If you grab onto the Scarabs turret, let it take you to where it sits and waits, then you can disconnect the turret and destroy the scarab. Later, when the Scarab is set to drop down, only the wrecked front half will walk down. However, since it is already wrecked, you cannot wreck it again, so you cannot continue the mission, you get stuck.
I’ve been 100% MCC recently and with it I have beaten every playlist for every game- which includes beating each game like 6 times each. You learn SO many speed running techniques and routes that work best and it breaks everything
I actually still have the picture from my old file share, made for some really funny cut scenes, not sure how many maps this works on, or even if it still works with the anniversary. If it still works would be interesting to see how far you could take it.
Oh to be young and new to old experiences. This is great guys. Loving the vids. I just want to give you a heads up on a few things from this video. 1) Player 3 Elite showing up in the cutscene has been happening since the game's launch. You are correct in your assumption of it being time based. But it also seems to be related to both player order as well as host. What I mean is that it could be either Elite. It simply depends on which one gets there first. Back in the day, a group of us at HBO (Halo.Bungie.Org) noticed it took a LOT of time trying to recreate it. It only seems to occur if one of the Elites are on the same beats Chief and Arbiter to the cliff. But it also seems to only occur if you reach it quickly. Even then it doesn't always happen. We discovered picking up the skull didn't matter, nor the difficulty. But we did discover that it only happens when one of the Elite players have a better ping then the host. It did not matter who the host was. If that Elite had a better connection, he/she would be in the cutscene. Again, it was not always occurring and only confused us further. In turn we gave up on locking down the solution and assumed the ping had shifted to not always allow it. Plus we were simply tired of restarting. So, in short (too late); You must pass through the path quickly, one if the Elites must best Aribter and Chief to the cliff, and that Elite must have a better connection. A 4th requirement may be needed, but we never discovered it. 2) Getting on the Scarab early has been done years ago without that skull. You can speed hop through to it. But same issue occurs. 3) Getting to Johnson early (via gap) also is not new. Players hot locked in then as well. 4)Same with the elevator gap. 5) Pushing through 343's shield can be done without skulls. It's simply a distraction and timing issue. HINT, don't be Master Chief giving Johnson the weapon. 6) The shortcut at the end has been done, yrs ago, without the skull activated. It always causes the same glitch. This was not to diminish your discoveries. They all were cool and fun to watch. And I love that you guys are so dedicated to find new things in these games. But as a old Halo veteran, I feel obligated to inform you that at least 95% of your discoveries here are not new. The HBO community were VERY dedicated to discoveries. We've also had 13 years to discover them. So don't feel defeated. Please keep pushing the limits. We need a new generation as dedicated as we were.
I remember in one Halo 3 vidoc, the devs explained the use of trigger volumes. These are essentially points on a map players have to cross that control scripting and events. Trigger volumes are common in game design, they are more well known as just event triggers. Sometimes they change the state of a level so that certain objectives in missions can be completed. Without triggering them as intended, portions of a level won't work outright or won't be accessible.
it's actually so interesting knowing what causes what to break, cause doing Game design you know what would trigger the stuff and all that, it's really cool.
Something happened to me and my friend in the level Covenant, when we had to go to the tower that johnson's got caught, it is supposed that a few brutes had to appear there, but I believe that were going so fast that the brutes didn't appear XD and we got stuck on that part, until we reload the entire level.
Man I wish I was playing with them. I played the full game with acrophobia and I could’ve helped them with a lot of the problems. Good job on the video. Keep up the good work!
7:33 I don’t know why I found that part super funny. Just a few grunt ghosts chillin out and the. You see a floating chief just casually float by like a floater🤣
Fun fact: On the Ark, you can actually kill the scarab before it actually returns to the playable area. You just need to hop into that plasma turret before it leaves thru the invisible walls, and it will glitch you through, where you can kill it. I just did this and it led to incredibly cursed stuff. When you blow it up, the hind legs will glitch and they will either twitch randomly and sometimes do the walking animation, except without being connected to the scarab, just wiggling like a worm. Also, it actually returns to the playable area, except its behind part is missing and its blown up, but it still does the normal animations, so you just get a indestructible bipedal scarab, and its usual crew will spawn on the ground.
For the scarab on the ark, if you jump on one of the turrets, once it finishes its climb, it will squat down and clip through the ground, and then jts destroyable. It does soft lock the game, however its Hella entertaining watching only the front half of the scarab climb down the tower and jump into the battlefield
Hey my man. Nice video. You missed one thing though, but I'm not 100% sure if you were playing on the right difficulty. The Sgt Johnson trick with weapons, if you give him an energy sword, he'll also hold it up and the attack animation will sometimes occur. Just a heads up.
For the covenant, I'm pretty sure you have to go through all the little doorways beneath the holographic rings to trigger prophet / cortana dialogue and enemy spawns. After doing that back and forth, the trash chute is allowed to trigger the cutscene.
My friend and I beat halo 3 in under a day using the acrophobia skull. 343 guilty spark flew straight towards me and I shot him with the spartan laser and he went under the bridge. He came back up and I shot him again and we got to the cut scene before Johnson could even hit him. Same thing happened with me with the end of the game, my warthog was falling off of the map so I got out and flew to the end of the level and it skipped me right towards the end cut scene. At least I got to watch the epilogue. Sidenote: my friend hasn’t played halo before and we are trying to complete every halo. We are on halo 4. Our run was from I think 12 to around 1:30, 2 o’clock.
The cutscene at the end of the final level played for me. There were just some skyboxes that failed to load so it only used the skybox from the warthog run
On The Ark you can actually destroy the Scarab as soon as it starts walking on the hill, BUT THEN IT RESPAWNS, LOOPS BACK TO THE PLACE WHERR UR SUPPOSED TO FIGHT IT AND ITS LITETALLY DESTROYED BUT ITS MOVING AND SHOOTING
So fun fact you can mount on the turrets that are in the scarab and go out of bounds with it then destroy it. Then after the early destruction once it spawns back in half of it will be gone.
With the segment @10:00 , I found that going through the last 2 door segments for the button to load. And for leaving to finish the mission, you need to go through the second and first door segments. If I remember correctly, doing just the last doors/first doors doesn't trigger it, just the enemies spawn.
Also, with the flying to the Forward Unto Dawn, on PC (pretty sure it'll be the same for console) the skip cutscene button is Jump... which is also the button you hold for flying with Acrophobia. So maybe try "falling" into the ship for the cutscene?
@RocketSloth maybe the Y glyphs in Halo 3 ODST are representing the forerunner dreadnought and they are around the dead elites because they are remembering the elites killed by the Prophet piloted forerunner dreadnought before the formation of the covenant
You guys should do a run where you figure out which halo levels in all of the games can be beaten by playing pacifist (no shooting, melee, grenades, or splattering enemies).
In the mission with the scarab 7:50 if you get out of the little area where guilty spark guides you out of a door and when the scarab first comes down and steps if you can fly up and get in its turret it’ll take you out of the kill barrier that’s normal on the extreme right and if you do that and kill the scarab while it’s out there it’ll do a weird thing where the bits that exploded fly around randomly and sometimes chase you Also if the other player hits the checkpoint after there scarab is dead in this instance the same animation of the scarab coming will occur but with the dead scarab which is hilarious
That moment you realise you've played through the Halo 3 campaign once like 14 years ago and only remember the warthog section at the end of the last level.
their's a glitch you can do on the final level with Jonson that if you kill him and take his spartan laser and have a gun with no ammo hill have it with infinite ammo when you kill him again, also if you time it just right and kill him just before the cutsean plays where you enter the room with guilty spark where the door opens when the fight is over if done right he'll come back to life and have the attributes a a normal solder, meaning that he can get infected by the flood.
Having done that last level with acrophobia myself to try to see what skips are possible and where the level triggers are, I can tell you with certainty that the last cutscene being skipped is literally just because you're holding A to fly when it activates. That's it.
You can also make johnson carry a flame thrower in 1 hand as he casually jogs swinging it up and down like a toy. You have to kill him and drip it at his corpse after taking his gun he’ll get up and take the flame thrower.
Me and my brother once did this together, but we had to play split screen. On floodgate we discover a area where you could see the bottom screen as if you died, we also found this on crownest.
Me and my friend didn't even have acrophobia on but we somehow got past Johnson in S-117 near the crashed pelican, to the point where he wasn't even in the prison or the whole area, preventing us from finishing. We could turn the prison barrier on and off, and also the chieftain was completely invulnerable. Never happened to me before and not sure what caused it
That's why the covenant call him the demon: for a brick he flew pretty good

In the Citadel on The Covenant, the triggers are in the small rooms; flying over them skips loading things. That's why everything breaks.

Also, with the flying to the Forward Unto Dawn, on PC (pretty sure it'll be the same for console) the skip cutscene button is Jump... which is also the button you hold for flying with Acrophobia. So maybe try "falling" into the ship for the cutscene?

Me and my friend didn't even have acrophobia on but we somehow got past Johnson in S-117 near the crashed pelican, to the point where he wasn't even in the prison or the whole area, preventing us from finishing.
We could turn the prison barrier on and off, and also the chieftain was completely invulnerable.
Never happened to me before and not sure what caused it
This is the first time I've seen that one of the Marines on the memorial are on there twice
