The "key" to picking any lock is...practice, practice, & practice. Proper tensioning & feeling the feedback of a lock, can only be learned from experience. Keep trying & you'll get it!
John Larson Yeah, I’ve actually been able to open a couple, but not consistently. I’ll pick two or three times in a row then get stuck on it again. And one lock I’ve been able to rake open a few times, but I can’t pick it to save my life.
Roughly two minutes of pick time is impressive when you're talking about someone who is highly skilled and has specialized tools on hand and is operating under ideal conditions.
It really isn't that difficult. The slop in the lock is what really helps these pickers. If everything was good and tight on the tolerances... It would be much much harder to pick. Almost impossible. If every piece was machined within .0001 tolerance you couldn't get it without a key. You have to think... With the slop in the tools, that slop directly connects to the slop in manufacturing. When they use a paper clip to open it... It's not even a lock lol. The disks in this video are stamped brass, if they used machined steel wafers they couldn't get it. Sitting quietly peering into my terminal, finding how to solve the first half of the problem we had I muttered "I think we just had a nice click out of one..." and everyone around the table looked at me like I spoke words noone could understand. People don't understand problem solving the way it works inside my head these days.
I'm happy that you took it apart. I know you said "and of course I will take it apart," but we really can't take it for granted anymore. You really don't take apart almost any lock anymore, even the really interesting ones. I can understand why, but it's still not a given.
Hey LPL. I tossed this at Bill too. Ive not seen anyone use oscillating tools against locks. Like yeah there are electric picks that are essientially mini oscillating tools, but i mean full size power tool oscillating cutter type things. I think they might be successful against various locks used in various ways.
I now saw several trays for pinnings, but they all cover the standard core design with two pins, a spring and maybe some master wavers. I'm a bit curious why there are no pinning trays for Disc Detainer locks yet ...
Im from Sweden and trying to learn! You are just amazing at lockpicking! im trying but i only got the basic tools. And cheap ones.. maybe a set of 10 different picks. I've learnt to open pad locks without spools just as fast as if you had a key, but i have been struggleing with a Kaba lock for days now, from the looks of the key there are 4 very small dimples on the top and bottom (these keys work both ways) and there are 10 dimples on each side of the key (20 really but the other half is just a copy of the other side). I watched ur video on picking a Kaba lock. But i just cant do it, i have tried for maybe one hour totaly. Is it just that these locks are VERY hard to pick or am i just bad at learning? Doesnt seem like i get any response at all from the lock, like you get from other locks with spools usualy?! I can also meantion that the lock im trying to pick is brand new and they changed doors on some of our garages and the keys wont come for 8 weeks.... and i need to get in now, dont wanna have to cut it open with an angle grinder xD
I was wondering if you have a technical reserve of all padlocks, and locks in general that you have picked. I'd love to see the 'collection', which I can only imagine must be quite impressive in volume. Another curiosity is what goes through your mind while picking a lock, and I can imagine an x-ray of sorts, where you visualize each element inside, and the movement it makes.

A lock that even LPL is struggling with?
*I'll take your entire stock!*
This channel is a true triumph of the human spirit. Yes, LPL, you may quote me on that.
Are you also able to pick Abloy protec2 core? Want to see that :)
Do you need to find out how to pick it for a job?
LPL I'm not sure if it's just me but I think showing the mechanism working with the key a couple times before you pick is weirdly satisfying
Imagine beeing his wife and hearing: this is the lock picking lawyer...
She must be a very lucky woman...
"It's a tricky pick" "I'd considert using it"
Damn, very high praise!
*Villagers in Minecraft should use this*
to keep themselves safe from a Random Swedish guy kidnapping them using a boat
XD
AnderZEL does not kidnap. He cajoles.
I work as a network engineer and was visiting a customer today to solve an issue they were facing. Sitting quietly peering into my terminal, finding how to solve the first half of the problem we had I muttered "I think we just had a nice click out of one..." and everyone around the table looked at me like I spoke words noone could understand. People don't understand problem solving the way it works inside my head these days.
"I am anticipating a challenge" *looks at video length ( I disagree )
I love these videos, so interesting. So much so that I've ordered a noob kit to see if it's a hobby for me. Thanks LPL
Lås means lock in Swedish, so the text on the lock says "Anchor Lock"
Another hungarian in sweden :D
Riiight mister Blond? :)
@@vibraloop indeed :)
Just got the notification, and already 35,000 views.
LPL is an Icon!
Go figure that the Swedish lock needs an Alan key for disassembly.
Why? Its an IKEA-key.
we like alankeys
I'm happy that you took it apart. I know you said "and of course I will take it apart," but we really can't take it for granted anymore. You really don't take apart almost any lock anymore, even the really interesting ones. I can understand why, but it's still not a given.
4:10 "Not sure why there was the half-moon shape, because I DON'T GIVE A FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU**!!"
Pretty sure the half moon is to make it easier to insert a key when the discs are out of place. Proof that the LPL never uses keys :D
Hey LPL. I tossed this at Bill too. Ive not seen anyone use oscillating tools against locks. Like yeah there are electric picks that are essientially mini oscillating tools, but i mean full size power tool oscillating cutter type things. I think they might be successful against various locks used in various ways.
What is the tray for gutting locks called?
Pinning tray iirc
Pinning tray
Thanks!
Here's a couple to look at if you're interested ;-)
www.sparrowslockpicks.ca/product_p/new4.htm
www.sparrowslockpicks.ca/product_p/sparrowsmat.htm
I now saw several trays for pinnings, but they all cover the standard core design with two pins, a spring and maybe some master wavers.
I'm a bit curious why there are no pinning trays for Disc Detainer locks yet ...
I swear to God you are fantastic, I'm extremely amazed by this dude, one piece of top notch work here
Excellent pronunciation of lås :)
"I'm anticipating a bit of a challenge"
2 minutes later

That picking device is the 😈
A video that's longer than 2 min... Wait a minute... What have you done with the real LPL?!
Sorry im new here but can you explain what you mean by that thanks
@@Musawick Given how fast he picks most consumer grade locks, above 2 minutes means this core is way above average in terms of pick resistance.
@@johnathanmcdoe thanks
"I'm anticipating a bit of a challenge." Picks lock in just over two minutes. Dude is scary good at this.
Hello from Sweden! Happy too see some of our locks are OK 👌😅
These locks really have special picks . Wow!!!!!
What a coincidence, I'm a Swede and I noticed this was uploaded on my birthday, wow! I usually don't bring attention to it if I notice that a video has been uploaded on my birthday, but in this case I couldn't help it x3
Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Tkx for you vides I learned the basics of lock picking and now I know how to pick my moms closet where she hide mine Nintendo switch now that I'm grounded 👌👍👍👌👍
Picking the lock in less than a minute, still consider it to be a lock he would choose. Bloody hell.
I envy your skills, Sir, and I salute you!
I have four of these, they cost well over $100 each. A bit unsettling to see that they were so "easy" to pick. :/
Interesting pick, never saw u use this much strategy and explain it so detailed!
We got a Anchor Lås 840-4 with an Assa core at work. It’s not working very well. One have to wiggle the key and shake the lock a litte to eventually be able to turn the key.
All I hear in my head when I try to open that gate is LPL’s voice:”...2 is binding....Got a nice click from number 3...”
Finally some good LPL recommends for being a good padlock, congrats to the maker
If one watches LPL or BB videos from just a few years ago, you will see them talking about how they can't pick a lock of this design and how you could count on both hands the number of people in the world with that skill. I would suggest that this is a wonderful lock for 99.9% of consumers.
Seeing you use the tool was very satisfying, I really enjoyed this one. :D
I know it would be a huge amount of effort, but I would love to see animations while youre picking, showing the progress of the pick. It is so exciting to watch, and I'd love to have a better idea of what's happening inside the lock.
I have a masters in Engineering, and am completely lost, luv this channel....
Always loved your gutting videos!
