The Minute KEY seems to measure the bitting exactly and makes essentially a code cut key. This has some positives, in theory it could make a sticking key not stick and also it could make one of your hand filed keys into a perfect looking and working key.
Unfortunately, this machine does not make an exact copy so it did not fully produce a lock buster key. However, with 1 minute of filing you can make one! This approach takes a little bit of hands-on work but works very quickly!

I filed one of these by hand and then put a blank in my Speedex with the head of both keys on the right side of the vice so the wheel would cut the key to match the angles. Bam! Now I can make lockbusters for 17 cents.

I had to shave down the front tip part just a little. But if you do a schlage lock you don't get that. I would say it is mostly a success

Yep I knew that's how the key was gonna come out. There's no way for the cutting wheel to get the angle.
Bobby Keyz I felt like it was a long shot but it was worth a shot :-) I do like how the machine does 90% of the work though when you can just finish off the key in about 30 seconds

As I was watching this and had seen what the machine did I was thinking the exact thing you explained. I have never used one of these machines; though I have seen them. I will have to perhaps try to create some keys for some file cabinet locks and see if the machine will make a nice code finished operating key.

HelpfulLockPicker I understand the awkwardness with this and the bump key, as hoping no bells on the machine are triggered, as well as filming in the store, I've been asked many times to turn off my camera in businesses for whatever reason they say is company policy, from protecting trade strategies and business practices etc. I think with a more standard key some of the pressure will be less. Still can understand the awkwardness. If I get to any tests with one of these I will try to record it so you may use the footage on your channel. Keep up the awesome videos.
Will these cut a multi lock key?
Probably not, that is a specific machine and you often need key cards to prove ownership

I think your right about code cutting. The cutter being used seems to have a 45 degree on each side. I believe a standard duplicator only has a 45 on one side of cutter. At least with my foley belsaw 200,it comes with 3 cutters 1 is a straight cutter ,another has 1 45 degree used for duplication, the other has 2 45 degree for code cutting.

I bought it on Facebook for 100.00 in brand new condition with all kinds of accessories. I like the micrometer adjustment, sometimes you need to make a copy of a copy that wasn't cut very accurately. For the money I like it a lot.

Swynndla it would be used mostly by police and military. If you need to quickly secure an area in an Emergency setting

Greg Tunston I think this machine has a lot of potential to make stuff easier. You could potentially poorly hand file a key, get it scanned, and have a perfectly code cut key made
Ya, I was wondering if the machine would allow you to exceed MACS. Also you didn't show a close up of the cuts, as a code machine will usually have very smooth angle sides and an exact spec, very smooth root width of the cut as opposed to standard key duplicators that are fairly "crude" in comparison. I doubt the machine would be able to duplicate anything other than a Kwitset or Schlage key. Wonder what it tells you? Guess I'll have to try one for myself, but I have never seen one before. Who makes it -- Google the manufacturer and why don't you buy one for yourself, ha!
It is probably a $10,000 machine, lol. They are at places like Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
you should filed for a refund because the minute key machine at lowes duplicated your key incorrectly. a regular key machine at the hardware store/locksmith should do a perfect duplicate in theory?

I think I would rather just file a key from start to finish myself. Yes it is more work, but it would save a buck or two depending on where you get the key and I'm a stickler for money cause I'm poor. 😂
T Cress I think hand filing is a lot of fun myself but I do think these little automated machines have a lot of potential especially if you are near a local locksmith. I like how they essentially make a code cut key for $3
I agree. If you're just needing a standard key, they are amazing. Like you, I also enjoy hand filing. Intricate work, but fun to do.
I am curious to test if it measures standard spacings and just code cuts those spacings, or does it measure infinite spacings and make some sort of operational keying??? Hmmm, also wondering if it would cut to an illegal bitting. Something outside of the standard pinning deviation tolerances. Like a zero to nine bitting order. So many questions, so many tests, lol.
It took me 4 minutes to make all four lock busters using a triangle file, and at 17¢ a key it’s well worth it
Skilled + poor = lazy.
