  • Originally from Scotland, Stewart has spent years exploring the relationship between the mind, body and spirit. Following a severe back injury, Stewart experienced an amazing recovery through intensive Ashtanga Vinyasa Mysore yoga practice. Stewart's sadhana led him towards an extensive yoga education with teachers from around the world who have had a profound effect on his unique style of teaching. He has studied with Sri k Patthabi Jois (mysore), Hamish Hendry (Ashtanga London), Sri Shreshadree (Mysore), and David Life and Sharon Gannon (Jivamukti Yoga, New York). He qualified as a Jivamukti teacher in 2003 and since has taught extensively in London with annual workshops in Italy and India.
    In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

      +Jeremiah Brock I think it has something to do with your bodys PH levels and the pain receptors, but yeah it feels fucking awesome, First time I felt it was listening to the Wim Hof episode of Joe Rogan's podcast, and if you get that funny electric feeling before you plunge into an icebath you barely feel it, very cool.

    • @rrbk6025

      +Jeremiah Brock It happens to me as well when I breath too much... It is quite unique I never overdo it though.

    • @travismcgrath2403

      Theres different kinds if sensations. Depends where and when you felt it. I can get a massive surge of energy up the spine or whole body when meditating. This means my body is going to sleep but my mind is awake. I can get full body electric buzzing doing a few breathing rounds of the Wim Hof method which tells me my body is highly oxygenated and my PH is changing. You would have to be more specific.

    the only scientific equivalent I can think of for prahna or whatever in science is maybe oxygen. Oxygen is absorbed through the breath and is transported through a network like the one he shows throughout your body. (the circulatory system) Oxygen is used in the body as an energy source and even temporary and local problems in circulation can stress out your body causing all sorts of issues.

    • @bradenquiggle1591
      @bradenquiggle1591 8 років тому

      Keegan Maloney prahna would be more like an atom, it makes up everything

      Braden Quiggle Prana has a variety of meanings. Just breath also:)

    • @rrbk6025
      @rrbk6025 8 років тому

      +Keegan Maloney Well the way I put it is everything you consume builds/transform you. A food/water transform you in long term but breath is what continuously affect your body status. It is also an organ that our conscious and unconscious mind share.

    not to disrespect the topic, but is TED losing the substance or only is turning into a pub entertainment and not evolving by the complexity of the knowledge and environment we need. Time is precious dude... make a move...

    Why must translate it to Breathing, when there is a proper name for it: Pranayaam?
    Why must translate it to Concentration, when there is a proper name for it: Dhyan?
    Not really sure, why there is this mad-rush in white world to distort, digest, appropriate others?

    • @j3fton
      @j3fton 8 років тому +4

      because not everybody speaks sanskrit

    • @supernaturalninth6385
      @supernaturalninth6385 7 років тому

      +Santosh Gairola LOL! Most of the white world has ALWAYS done this when it comes to learning from cultures other than their own. It may be easily explained that "not everybody speaks sanskrit", but that is a cop out. It seems most of them do have a knack for distorting, digesting and appropriating cultural tenets in a way that is insulting at worst and pure laziness at best.
