    I have the same rotary switch in a mid 1940s Triplett tube tester. That is one rare switch. And damn fragile. Never thought I'd see another one

    I'm converting an origin 50 to a 1987 some time soon.. I've got a bunch of mustard caps I salvaged from a reel to reel.. I may use em.
    It will definitely have a Lar Mar . It's my favorite for plexis and bassmans.

    Good video. I think I like the pre-phase inverter master volume better.

      Pre-Phase is a tone suck on a non-cascaded amp, due to a lot of the distortion generated in the phase invertor which the LarMar incorporates. The Pre-Phase only has the desired effect on JMP/JCM amps with cascaded gain stages, which generates enough signal for the Pre-Phase volume to work

    There are amp techs that swear up and down that the brand or manufacturer of caps doesn't matter. They claim you can replace any foil cap with any foil cap and they sound basically the same.

      I disagree, What do you think?

      @@conjeringI also disagree. I have two 2204s a 77 and a 79. One with mustard caps one with red mallory box caps both stock. The one with mustard caps just sounds better in the preamp. Both sound about the same in the power section. The the 79 has the low input converted into a poweramp in. I never liked the one with box caps so I just use it as a slave with my rack processor splitting stereo.

    The wiring is fine, it appears some effort went into twisting and tucking them away for noise cancellation.
    The biggest issue by far appears to be the corrosion and rusting throughout the amp - any grounding is potentially compromised if the chassis is no longer a solid grounding material, leading to arcing, sparking and large filter caps exploding in a dramatic fashion.
    No way.
    I wouldn't have worked on it unless it was being transplanted to a new, non-compromised chassis

      Thank you for you're professional analysis, even after that, the amp is the best sounding Marshall I ever heard in person with absolutely no problems what so ever.

    Hey Art, if I send you a picture of this amp, I’m looking at to buy you could look at the board and see what’s original

    Will a broken dual pot cause bias issues especially with an el84 cathode biased amp? The ppimv doesnt tame the volume all the way down, upon measuring the input and wiper of the outer part of the dual pot, it doesnt go all the way down to almost zero ohms, unlike the upper part of the dual pot which goes to 2ohms.

      Yes a faulty pot could mess up your bias

    • @conjering
      @conjering  Рік тому

      Yes, a PPIMV pot if faulty will cause a negative bias supply to runaway and red plate the tubes

      The drawbacks of the LarMar are negated when the pot is of good quality and the install is done correctly
