@7:00 also if your car has high mileage and/or damage you can get it re-assessed for a lower rate. Also don't know if they do this in other states but here commercial and rental properties are assessed at a higher rate (probly why it cost more to rent lol) and the commercial assessment is AUTOMATIC so if you move into a new home you need to contact the county thief (assessor) to get ur home assessed at the residential rate (at least thats how it was when i bought my house:) )
OMG, $1400 a year in property taxes! I wish I was paying that. I live in Illinois, a very high tax state. I own a 1 bedroom condo near downtown Chicago and my annual real estate tax bill is $4300! I plan to move out of Illinois within the next 2-3 years. Can't take it here anymore. Many of my friends have already left.
@@TheBillOlson Oh wow, thought u said NJ for a sec. U didnt like Ohio then I take it. I liked the feel of Indiana more. even IL when i went through them. If u lived in Cleveland, I can see the reason u wanted to leave.
$330,000 is not a lot of money for coastal living. Take a look in Cali; you have to ad another digit to live on the coast there. So the cost of living in Charleston SC is quite reasonable. And those property taxes are definitely low in your neck of the woods. It was interesting to see the various average home prices when you went through the map. Great job Bill!
What id be concerned about though is the people who do over indulge, Im just gonna be renting . Then all those ppl will be doing is bringing an even more flashy lifestyle looking down on others. I bet thats what Charleston is going through.
Hi Bill, Thank you for the Video... Couple in 50's from CA... Charleston is nice but still kind of mulling over where. Any thoughts and comparisons' of the South Carolina/nice areas of Augusta /Simpsonville vs Charleston area. I like the beach but really enjoy biking gravel/MTB and we are used to whole foods/sprouts/etc... A bit apprehensive about hurricane/tornado issues and am still in the job market. Thanks again

Question, I’m from California and I’m looking to relocate. Maybe Charleston SC. How diverse is Charleston? What minority ethnic group is the largest in Charleston?
Charleston is very white, for the city of Charleston at least. With the population being 72% white, and 21.9% African American. Charleston is also very much religious for Christianity and Judaism. However, Charleston County has a very liberal lean compared to the rest of the state. I actually like to call it "The LA of the South" as it has a lot of beaches, a lot of residential cities nearby, if you look at Los Angeles City Limits, you'll see there are a bunch of smaller cities with official municipal government powers surrounding it, and you'll see the same thing too if you look at Charleston. It also has a massive google data center just west of Charleston, and east of it, the Marine Corp Recruit Depot, similar to the MCRD at San Diego.
Hello I'm Russell. I'm thinking about moving back to Charleston. I know it is going to be hard with only a little over a thousand dollars a month on Social Security. Do you have any advice on where to rent closest to the beach as possible. Thank you
I’m trying to figure out where the high paying jobs are in Charleston to be able to afford rent much less buying a house as a single parent. Love Charleston but it’s becoming unaffordable
@@TheBillOlson it varies…but around 600-650k. At that price point if you find something around 10K taxes that’s a steal. And it can go as high as 18 or so on the higher end at that price point as well.
That’s INSANE and one of the reasons we’re seeing so many transplants. Taxes would be between $2500-$3500 depending on the area. If you work remotely now, that’s a hefty little “raise” and you don’t have to shovel snow!

Depending on the area of Charleston. The rule of thumb is usually the further you get from the beaches and downtown, the more affordable it gets, which goes for rentals too.
@@TheBillOlson Thank you.. NYC not so bad.. Im just done with the weather and to be honest, you can not buy anything here, too exspensive.. I would commute back and forth and eventually retire down there..
It all depends on how cold you want your home. Most newer units dehumidify the home efficiently, which means you can keep your temp a little higher and be comfortable. It really helps. And it is true you can't live without it...well you could, if you like to sweat a lot.
