That captain at the end. He's the difference between a manager and a leader... You can tell that every last soldier's best interest has been taken to heart with him and he truly wants to see them succeed. He wants to set them up for success with confidence and assurance that they can do this. Pretty impressive guy.
Yeah, like pushing your sea bag across the squad bay deck using your nose. Flopping around like a fish as they yell, "On yer back!" "On yer belly!" over and over again.
So, one of the questions you asked was "do you think this is for show?" I can tell you from experience that it was not. A typical day at boot camp when I went through 4 years ago would consist of at minimum 3 "fire drills", in addition to a variety of holding items (books, canteens, rifles) above your head or directly in front of you. And yes if you got caught slacking you started all over and we'd say "Thank you Shipmate, Thank you". Meal times were stressful. You couldnt look up from your plate, you had to follow traffic patterns and hope that you didn't get stopped by one of the CCs for questioning. You would get stopped outside while walking and questioned by random CCs who were in your path. The CCs actually have time limits for each "punishment" (holding water bottles, holding mattresses, holding line, etc) that they follow, so there are limitations on what they can do. Also for clarification, the Coast Guard is not in the Department of Defense, however, it is a branch of the military serving under the Department of Homeland Security. There are policies and documents as proof describing it as such.
Agreed. I went through USCG boot camp at Cape May in Feb 1977. It is no cake walk today and back then it was down right abusive. But, we survived. Thank you shipmate for your service. Retired BM1 in 1997. The Coast Guard. Because the Navy needs heroes.
The Coast Guard is a branch of the military and is defined by Title 14 of the United States Code: The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times. The Coast Guard shall be a service in the Department of Homeland Security, except when operating as a service in the Navy.
Just to clarify. The Coast Guard "was established January 28, 1915" is a little misleading. The law "establishing" the Coast Guard actually combined the Revenue Cutter Service (established on Aug. 4, 1790) the Lifesaving Service (established in 1848) and renamed them as the U.S. Coast Guard. That's why the Coast Guard considers it's beginning to be Aug. 4, 1790. Originally, the Revenue Cutter Service operated under the Treasury Department and its main mission was to stop smuggling. Because of that and the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 which forbids the use of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps or Air Force for domestic law enforcement. The only exceptions are each state's National Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard which is not a full time organization under the Department of Defense. As more peacetime responsibilities were added to the Coast Guard it was decided to move control from the Department of Treasury to the Department of Transportation in 1967. The Coast Guard was moved into the newly created Department of Homeland Security in 2003 because of its law enforcement missions.
You should do a video of her shadow military trauma nurses. Or maybe you can have her spend a day training with Navy Corpman and she gets to see what it’s like to provide medical care in a tactical environment lol

And contrary to how other commenters full of obnoxious assumptions feel, I find it refreshing that you interact with your girlfriend like an equal human being and not a fragile princess china doll (this is coming from a wife and mom of 4 here). I didn't think you were being rude at all. I sometimes wish I would have joined the military when I graduated high school, I love the structure, respect, and absolute discipline it instills in a person.
As someone who is part of the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard is part of the military. During times of peace, the Coast Guard is under the Department of Homeland Security and during times of war, the Coast Guard essentially rolls into the Department of Defense partnering alongside the Navy.
Austin thanks for covering the CG, always good to see us out there. To clarify, U.S.C. Title 14 designates the CG as a military service. Spot on with us being DHS and not DOD. We always have room for people ready to serve, reach out to a recruiter.
The reason the Coast Guard is under DHS now [it’s been under various dept’s at various times] rather than DOD is basically Constitutional. The U.S. Constitution places limits on the rest of the U.S. military as to how they are allowed to interact with our civilian population; pre-Revolution historical experience with the British military served to inform this. USCG peacetime operations “our ‘day’ job” require closer interaction than is typical for the other services.

The first and primary role was to ensure that revenue was collected on imports, along with battling Piracy. There are actually 7 Military Branches, 8 with Space Force. Military means under the jurisdiction of Uniform Code Of Military Justice UCMJ. To answer the question if they are being more agressive for the cameras I can confirm that they are probably going a little easier. We once had to stand up and sit down at our classroom desks for a hour and a half until we all were in unison because we had some people fall asleep in class. It was an incredible experience.
As one of the country's six armed services, the Coast Guard has been involved in every major U.S. war since 1790, from the Quasi-War with France to the Global War on Terrorism. Just as an FYI: I do Veteran's Administration Disability Exams. I see Veterans from the Army, Navy, USMC, Air Force, AND Coast Guard. The Federal Government classifies the Coast Guard as one of the branches of the armed forces.
John here on wifeys computer. Was in the Guard from 1963 to 1967. Boot camp was 13 weeks back then and it was usually 14 weeks as you were in forming company for a week waiting for enough other recruits and getting your uniforms etc. Some of what CG boot is like today is easier, some is more difficult AND it is definitely more skill focused. CG is the real deal and if you are planning on sitting around then the Guard is NOT for you. If you want responsibility then the CG will surely give it to you and often when you least expect it.
TECHNICALLY, the Coast Guard is absolutely a branch of the military. They do not fall under the DoD, you are right. However, the USCG, as outlined in the law that established it, 14 USC 101 (formerly 14 USC 1) which states: "The Coast Guard, established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times." They follow the same rank and pay structure. An officer of higher grade shall be saluted by members of the other services. Found your videos when I got to Bahrain to see what its like. Good stuff bro, and ya that boot camp sucks they definitely didn't show all the crazy crap they had us do. Its been a solid 13 years since then so it might have changed
Yea, sadly a lot of the bootcamps have changed since then. They have gotten easier , yelling has decreased a little bit. Newer recruits are not fully experiencing what people had years ago.
@austenalexander liked the video but as a Coastie myself I felt it necessary to speak up about this video. I feel there are two ways your intro can be interpreted; 1) being that your saying the Coast Guard is not a branch of the military or military service or 2) it is not a branch of the military in the sense of part of the other branches in the DoD. Yes you are correct that we fall under DHS but August 4, 1949 Congress passed under Title 14 USC 101 that estaishes the Coast Guard as a military service and a branch of the armed forces. Just clearing up any confusion to anyone watching or who subscribes to your channel.

I have noticed that in all of the services, there is a large number of people wearing glasses. I think we only had one person wearing glasses in my squadron. There were no females and we never saw them.
To clarify the misinformation here: there is no "Department of the Military". It is Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), both of which have military branches within them as well as other uniformed services (NOAA, USPHS, etc.). The Coast Guard became a part of the military under Title 14 of the United States Code in 1915 "The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times." Appreciate the props, but the Coast Guard is definitely a part of the military and is the only branch that can conduct law enforcement "on the high seas" nationally and internationally. Semper Paratus :) :P

I didn’t get focus because I don’t like caffeine but I did get whey, greens, reds, bcaa, and creatine from bpn. I would recommend each product and they definitely improved my workouts and motivation in these lazy times.
This is isn’t even a fraction of how bad it actually gets. I remember da spending entire Sunday’s squaring your racks and bays away always just for them to make us stuff it all in a bag and pass seabags for hours. Sweat would build up in the squad bays so thick it would puddle on the floors and then taking our guns (pieces) and sitting, standing, crouching in sniper position for longer than I care to remember. Taking 500 ft ship mooring lines and holding it above our heads and never stop screaming and chanting in the sun. Lol countless more things I could list off that this camera will never show you.
Great video but just a note we're DHS but it's still the military. UCMJ still applies and we get the same benefits and pay as any other branch. DOD cac cards security clearances the whole thing. Just the hidden gem of the U.S. military. Also, none of this was for show. This is pretty much just the half of the real experience. Boot camp was kinda a nightmare.
I think the worst punishments we ever got our was when our SDI walked in super quite and started talking to us normally and then asked us to hold our rifles with one hand at the tip of the barrel and the other with the brush and we cleaned our compensators for what felt like hours.
They defiantly didn't tone it down for the cameras. They use to call punishments 'beatings'.... they made you do continuous shoulder work so you can scrape and paint the ships and buoys. lol I had a good time... There was a ton of classroom work that they didn't really show...
I just came out of coast guard bootcamp and let me tell they break you done mentally and physically you literally have to be prepared to be a whole different person
I have a little more respect for the coast guard now. I always heard that their boot camp was almost as tough as USMC boot camp, but i went through Marine boot camp and never thought it was possible to be even close to as hard, but i was wrong. I now think its the second hardest after watching this. Well done women and gents

The Coast Guard IS part of the military, ya putz! 🤦
Ship out in one week! Hooyah!! 🇺🇸
what rate? I ship nov 4th for CM
That ride on the bus was the scariest moment of my life! 😐
Girl same, but it was so worth it! XD
Been there done that.
I swear I didn't know that it was that guy's bus I was on...!!
Great Series, you two are awesome. I had to tread water for 5 minutes for a crew swim test, the first time I did it, it was the longest 5 minutes of my life lol
Semper Fidelis (us marine corp) is "Always faithful"
Semper fidelis means always faithful (it’s Latin)
Dude her face in these thumbnails. LMFAO.
Just clearing up any confusion to anyone watching or who subscribes to your channel.
thank you for this reply! A lot of people aren't aware of these roles, and the reasons. CG can act as Law Enforcement because CG isn't under DOD, but now under DHS, for years were under Treasury, then under Transportation. DHS makes a whole lot of sense, but so did placing CG under the other two. From the start, when there was no Navy, or any other armed force in the US, (All the revolutionary services being disbanded) there was only the Revenue Cutter Service (Revenue Marine, and later Coast Guard) as an armed force for USA . The first and primary role was to ensure that revenue was collected on imports, along with battling Piracy. There are actually 7 Military Branches, 8 with Space Force. Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force, NOAA, PHS, and Merchant Marines. Of these 8, so far, 5 are armed forces. Military means under the jurisdiction of Uniform Code Of Military Justice UCMJ. Under the War Powers act the CG is absorbed into the Navy, which is why all CG Cutters are trained to Naval standards. and ships are maintained accordingly. There is a lot of really interesting history in all the services! by the way, as a veteran of a 26 year long CG Career, Thank You! For serving my country, and for your post here!!! Also the proud papa of a Gold Badge, Master Chief daughter!!!!
We were really upset with that kid waving at the camera 😂 our company got smoked and man I hated that guy for it.
your going to Alaabama WHOOOO gets me every time
That picture of Sarah on the thumbnail 😆 . I can't imagine she was happy with that. Love your videos!
She hasn’t seen it yet 😂 I’m waiting for her to notice
😂
You forgot to mention the new and improved SPACE FORCE when you mentioned the military branches
Improved? Improved how?
Lol I have a feeling I know you from somewhere cause my cousins division made that up
Chow in marine boot was practically another training event 😂 people had their food slapped of trays or cups out of hands if not carried properly
They did that at CG boot camp when I went through.
Hey Austen, love the video. The pin at 13:16 is actually a Company Commander Pin. Only know that bc she was my lead CC.
Less go I requested this in previous videos! Good shit Austen
Thanks man!
Yay! I’ve been waiting for this one. You guys are awesome!
Thank you 🙏
Austen Alexander you’re welcome!
You kinda did her dirty with that thumbnail 😂😂
😂 it’s the only good one I could find
I love this series! U are so inspiring Austin!
This dude really doesn't have ad-free youtube lol
@@avakrop5852 No one is really that invested, but it is a bit of a funny because he is a quality, dare I say professional, youtuber. Also, I would assume that it is within his means to afford it. All things considered, one can see the irony. Austen Alexander and I both appreciate your loyalty.
Neither does youtube, lmao!
I have noticed that in all of the services, there is a large number of people wearing glasses. I think we only had one person wearing glasses in my squadron. There were no females and we never saw them.
The first female drill instructor you see in the video is my wife 💁♂️
Semper Paratus :) :P
he answered when i said coast guard boot camp
Sara cracks my shit up! Do one about her job, let's see her reaction bro..lmao
That’s a good idea actually
Your girlfriend is like mine... Always asking things when we're watching something together hahahaha
4:55 Listen to this conversation. Just...listen.
14 USC 101
The Coast Guard, established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times.
Semper Fi- Always faithful
I didn’t get focus because I don’t like caffeine but I did get whey, greens, reds, bcaa, and creatine from bpn. I would recommend each product and they definitely improved my workouts and motivation in these lazy times.
Good stuff
This is isn’t even a fraction of how bad it actually gets. I remember da spending entire Sunday’s squaring your racks and bays away always just for them to make us stuff it all in a bag and pass seabags for hours. Sweat would build up in the squad bays so thick it would puddle on the floors and then taking our guns (pieces) and sitting, standing, crouching in sniper position for longer than I care to remember. Taking 500 ft ship mooring lines and holding it above our heads and never stop screaming and chanting in the sun. Lol countless more things I could list off that this camera will never show you.
15:01 the sexiest command ever.
Hell yeah.....say it.....you.....like she’s just disgusted with him....haha
I seriously “like” every video Sara is in! I love her “siiiiiigning outttt” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Uniform dating is using a picture of you in their ads. In case ya didn’t know.
"They dropped us with the ad"
one second later i get an ad
If you need more boot camps to react to, there are always the 5 Service Academies. (USMMA, USMA, USAFA, USNA, and USCGA)
She makes my brain hurt 😂
i love her so much , i swear she’s too iconic
LOL! Oh man. I would have be on top of my Vitamin B12 to survive all that yelling. LOL! No joke.
I did this for 20 minutes and all of this is real. Best video that shows the real deal.
I think the worst punishments we ever got our was when our SDI walked in super quite and started talking to us normally and then asked us to hold our rifles with one hand at the tip of the barrel and the other with the brush and we cleaned our compensators for what felt like hours.
She's so dense lol. "What's realistate?" "What's the deck?" "What does that mean?" Reminds me of my girlfriend 😂
I love this series
My Marine recruiter was cool. When he picked me up on ship-out day he had beers waiting for us to split. We didn't have a lounge lol
Was it just me or did he say “aww they got us with the ad” and then he presses play and a ad pops up on my screen 😂😂
First video and first time in this channel good video Sir keep doing more reactions and videos please thanks!
Love how he has to turn down her mic volume.
should have muted it
LOVING the BPN spot! Good Stuff!!!
Lmao when he got a little irritated about the volunteer veteran😂😂
Glad to see the CG not get too crazy about their uniforms.
1:17 the face I make when I get hushed talking to my mom while she’s on the phone
They defiantly didn't tone it down for the cameras. They use to call punishments 'beatings'.... they made you do continuous shoulder work so you can scrape and paint the ships and buoys. lol I had a good time... There was a ton of classroom work that they didn't really show...
i go to cape may for vacation and we pass the bout camp and we just stare at them every time we past them
Semper Fidelis is..... ALWAYS FAITHFUL Dude!!!
I just came out of coast guard bootcamp and let me tell they break you done mentally and physically you literally have to be prepared to be a whole different person
Alexander Hamilton. "that's probably your great great...." Um... no, that's not how that works. Lol that was funny
it seems like austen wants to wringe her head off after every video lmaoo
I graduated coast guard bootcamp last week and let me tell you they only show the bare minimum in this video😂 Behind the scenes shit goes down…
Thank you for your service 👑
I'm going into the army. National Guard here soon I'm 31 so I'll be one of the older guys but that don't mean shit lol
I have a little more respect for the coast guard now. I always heard that their boot camp was almost as tough as USMC boot camp, but i went through Marine boot camp and never thought it was possible to be even close to as hard, but i was wrong. I now think its the second hardest after watching this. Well done women and gents
Why would you have more respect for them. What is the point of screening in their faces
