I agree with whatever you said except for the placement of gear dial and infotainment controller. I believe that's exactly where they should be. Reasons: 1- you are not continuously using the controler for infotainment system so every now and then a little bit of reach to change a setting won't hurt. 2- I have a MB glc and has a touchpad like lexus, it's located within your reach when resting your arm on the arm rest, and every few min or seconds maybe, you accidentally touch it and something changes in the system. Most of Hyundai's TOP TRIM models don't have wireless Android/apple because of the built-in navigation on the larger screens. Basically something regarding copyright or proprietary issues.
The rigid options packages is what’s holding me back from getting a GV70. I want the 2.5t with all the options of the sport prestige package but with 19” wheels instead of 21” and road preview adaptive suspension with rear heated seats, HUD, But nope. The suspension is only available on 3.5t. And HDA2 is only available on 2.5t with the sport prestige model - really dislike the sport appearance package. So frustrating. And the dealership experience sucks. These annoyances seem US-specific
Volkswagen does the same thing with requiring you to get the Premium trim line to get leather seats or ventilated seats on the Atlas Cross Sport. It makes no sense, because the most likely need for the ventilated seats is for the leatherette seats that are in every trim level other than Premium.
I'm confused about the three zone climate control on the 2.5T ? Recently bought this car and on the climate control panel there is a button that says rear. when you press it there are options for controlling the rear climate control. Since I drive this with no one back there I have not confirmed the controls since the test drive.
Don`t worry about the extras only being available on the 3.5L engine in US. We in Germany don`t even get the 3.5L enigne at all. 🙂 (Thus, the extras you are missing in the 3.5 are all available within the 2.5 in DE)
I purchased a 2022 Lincoln Corsair. Your number one and number two complaints are the exact same on my car. These two vehicles seem very similar. There are many things I love about my car as well. Thanks for your video.
I agree about the shifter, they should have moved it to the front of the console. But, I have longer arms and shorter people would probably complain the reach was too far for them. And I agree that you should be able to match the trim levels items without having to buy the larger engine. I love the option of having the V6 available, but it shouldn’t be mandatory just to get the heads up or 12” cluster.
Thanks for that. I agree with the two nobs being in the wrong position. Maybe they will switch them around in the future so the shifter isn't so close and the menu nob is closer.
I recently purchased a 2022 GV80..... Love it thus far..!! The auto shut off/start feature is actually really smooth and I've seen other reviewers who thought the same. Good point on the center knobs but yeah...... not a big deal to me. You'll get use to the controls so once again..... not a big deal....
No one, not even sales person at a dealership know that the Genesis has a nice feature. If you press and hold the button at the door handel you can close the opened sunroof and all opened windows of the car. Great if kids leave windows open or partially open.
The idea is for you to keep your hands on the wheel - therefore teaching you to use the steering wheel controls for all functions. That’s why the screen is set a bit further out of reach and the gear selector and the infotainment knob aren’t switched around. #TheMoreYouKnow 🌈
There's 1 thing you didn't mention You can't get the back lighting on the doors on the top most highest trim level they put that goofy carbon fiber inserts instead of the back lighting. At least they should offer it on a option but I thought you did a very good job on the other stuff as well I didn't know about the auto shut off feature I was thinking about buying one but not if you can't disable that feature.
I’m not aware of any vehicle in which one can disable the engine auto shut-off feature. However, after driving a Mercedes with this “feature” for going on six years I don’t have any issue with it. Every time I start the engine, I now automatically, as in totally subconsciously, turn off this feature right at the get-go. It’s become so automatic, I honestly don’t even realize I do it! I’ve even tried to bribe Mercedes technicians to disable this feature, but to no success. I believe it’s done in order to get more favorable mileage efficiency results, although in the real world I can’t see it making any significant change in your mileage - unless that is, if you spend most of your commute literally stuck in stop and go traffic. The real down side to this feature is the additional wear and tear on the engine from the repeated stopping and starting.
You can disable the auto stop by a push of a button on the lower dash. Surprisingly my 2.5t works smoother then the X5 I had. And much smooher then the GLE I had.
The lack of wireless apple carplay is a huge bummer. They offer a 6 cyl but no wireless Apple CarPlay. The Lexus has wireless Apple CarPlay but they discontinued the 6 cyl. Super frustrating.
Great video! The Cons are really not great. Especially the shift dial vs the infotainment controller! There are no free lunches guys! If you want a real Mercedes and what that comes with, you have to pay more.
I have wireless Apple CarPlay in my Kia K5 and it sucks. The screen will randomly go black and I get an error message. This happens especially when im using Google maps to get somewhere.
I took one on a long test drive. Like Tamir' and Saul's comments, absolutely no start/stop shudder issues whatsoever. Maybe the specific model you had? I own a Merc GLC and the stop/start on that is far worse.
If you want to protect your engine you need to turn off the auto engine stop/start every time you start the car. I think virtually every car defaults to that feature so just like putting on your seat belt you need to hit the off button. I think head up display is way overrated.
Can someone comment on whether the cargo bay in the GV70 will fit two full size golf bags? My CX-9 can actually hold 4 bags with 4 passengers but I'm really interested in either the 70 or possibly the 80. Thank you.
Have you ever turned the wrong rotary and changed gears while driving (when you meant to alter the infotainment screen), or is there a safety mechanism in place to prevent that?
I've had mine since September 2021 and while at first I was concerned about this happening, it just doesn't. Even if you do mistakenly turn the wrong dial the resistance of the dials is different so you know it immediately. The gear dial takes more effort and won't budge when you would turn it with the lighter effort you'd use for the other dial. This vehicle really has no downsides though some try really hard to find some. Love my GV70!
I've got a 2022 GV70 and yes. This totally happens until you get used to it. For the first 2 months, I'd drive to zoom in on my navigation screen and wound up in neutral! 😬 Not a good look, but you learn what NOT to do relatively quickly.
I think the car you’re driving has an issue cause my Alfa Romeo I just traded in for the gv70 had the same issue. I traded it in for the gv70 before I had the dealership fix it. But the auto start works really fluid for it.
That's weird cuz my girl have that Android Auto Apple car audio and that started stop issue doesn't exist you can turn that function off or on I don't think you have the right package
You have to put a disclaimer in these videos. Making it clear that these issue or dislikes is for your particular vehicle. And other vehicle may vary, not all vehicles are created equal.
I agree fully with your dislikes on the 2.5T Advanced. I did not want the 3.5T, nor the Sport package, so I had to settle for not having heated rear seats and heads up display. Those are the only two things that I really miss. Because of that, I can say that I am not totally satisfied with owning one. I would have probably gone with the M-B GLC300 if they had been available this past year. One more dislike I have is in the back with the exhaust ports coming through black diamond pattern fascia. The GV70 Electrified is so much cleaner looking. So is the GV80.
Genesis is meant to be a luxury brand. And with most, if not all luxury brands, you do have to upgrade to a higher model to get certain things. And a wireless charging pad doesn't mean it's going to have wireless CarPlay.
50k is still a lot of money for a small car, however after looking around you will see a lot of non-luxury compact suv are sold for over 40k, this is an easy winner or no brainer
I have just purchased the GV 70 Sport Advanced. I wish I could of found a Sport Prestige for several reasons that are mentioned in the video. Regardless, it seems to be a well built SUV and I like my 3 spoke wheel better than the 2 spoke wheel. I could not find one with the red or tan interior which I wanted but over all I am pleased with the car overall. It has high tech galore. The 3.5 twin turbo is a strong engine along with the AWD it is probably the best well designed and unknown SUV out there. I hope it lasts as long as my 2013 Genesis Coupe. Getting plenty of approvals.
I’d have to agree with the placement of the shifter and the toggle for the infotainment system. I’ve accidentally pressed the parking button because I thought I was on the toggle knob. I have the 2022 GV80 with the Prestige Signature package. Great vehicle…I don’t mind the non-wireless Apple CarPlay option. I actually like using the genesis navigation option because I can see the directions in my HUD, I couldn’t see the directions from my phone into HUD. If someone knows how to fix that, hit me up! I’ve only had the GV80 for a week. LOL. I did think it was weird the GV70 didn’t have those basic options that the 3.5T has, so I agree. In my GV80, with the ACC on, I BARELY feel it shut off and on, and there’s definitely not a jerk. That’s weird your tester did that. Overall, I LOVE my GV80. Wouldn’t pick a different vehicle….
That start stop shutter is a huge deal. I don't understand how you can't record that. I would honestly avoid making claims like that unless you are able to emulate it.
I’ve had the GV70 in Cardiff Green (the metallic green) for 3 weeks. 2.5. Advanced trim with some select features. I love it!! Such a smooth ride and comfortable driving experience. I definitely agree with the wireless Apple Car play critique. The wireless charger is convenient and keeps a luxury feel, but takes it down a notch when you have to connect a wire.
So connecting a wire takes down the luxury feel huh. So connecting your Tesla model S charger takes away the luxury feel ? Connecting your 200 inch roll up TV screen to the wall takes away the luxury feel ? You pretentious self serving entitled ma'fakkas .....🙄
Yea it's a little annoying to not have wirless android auto or Apple car play. Auto start stop is a feature that needs to be removed from almost all cars its annoying and redundant. You cannot argue with these genisis cars they're fantastic overall they're showing other brands that it's not about buying a name it's about buying a product.
I hardly complain about wireless android/🍏 car play because you can always connect with Bluetooth which is 100% wireless with all functions of wireless!!!
You have to jump up to luxury to get a heads up display in the NX. Have to get luxury to get the right to but panoramic camera too. Both should be standard in premium snd luxury packages in 2022 Lexus NX.
Heads of Display is a fuzzy looking and unsafe driving assistant. Watch the Road, Drive Safely, listening for your Warnings from Sound and Vibration alerts.
As a car reviewer, you should know why some models have wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and others do not. It has to do with the availability of onboard nav system. Hyundai/Kia wants their nav system to be the default system which Apple and Google do not agree to, hence the unavailability of wireless connection. It’s nothing to do with the technology.
Question: Do both engines have dual injection? I agree with you…especially your likes. Thanks for pointing out the differences with NX because I have been mentally comparing them myself. 🏳️🌈
This is laughable. Dude I appreciate your video and the time you put into making it, but it's a trade off. Genesis is giving you so much. Man when you own and Audi, BMW or Mercedes you pay pay and pay!!! Even with Lexus you pay!!!
My biggest beef; how noisy this car is, particularly on acceleration; way more than you seem to imply here. Irony here is, your insistence on how quiet it is! Second issue: controls layout. As you mention, the touch screen up on the dash is just too far for comfort. Also, I really dislike the rotary-type gear shift selector. The stick on the steering column, as in the Mercedes and Tesla, is the most convenient and accurate type, and it also leaves more room on the central console for other controls.
Trim piece tacked onto the bottom of the doors is cheap and flimsy. Wonder how long that will stay attached. Dash is surprisingly cheap, hard plastic. Would be nice to have a bit of padding.

(Thus, the extras you are missing in the 3.5 are all available within the 2.5 in DE)
Must be this particular GV in regards to the auto stop. Mine is seamless without that delay or any type of sound.
No one, not even sales person at a dealership know that the Genesis has a nice feature. If you press and hold the button at the door handel you can close the opened sunroof and all opened windows of the car. Great if kids leave windows open or partially open.
Thanks a lot for your detail review, I'm waiting my white GV70 2.5T from 4 months ago.
Just ordered yesterday and Im in for 7-8 months. This car is worth the wait...
Most cars I’ve driven with a 4cyl with auto start/stop haven’t been smooth. A 6cyl or 8 have been smooth tho
Nice review. Please try and get your hands on the new 2022 BMW X3
Thanks for the comparison between this and NX
I want the ability to turn it off the auto stop and start for good I hate that feature
no wireless carplay/android auto you can fix it very easy, just buy a wireless adapter
Can you change the color of the interior ambient light?
Yes
The idea is for you to keep your hands on the wheel - therefore teaching you to use the steering wheel controls for all functions. That’s why the screen is set a bit further out of reach and the gear selector and the infotainment knob aren’t switched around. #TheMoreYouKnow 🌈
Really good review...do you know what white the color is? There are three available
Thank you! This is Uyuni White 👍
The bypass cable is readily available aftermarket.
You can disable the auto stop by a push of a button on the lower dash. Surprisingly my 2.5t works smoother then the X5 I had. And much smooher then the GLE I had.
This!
In Canada, the HUD is available on the 2.5T (Advanced plus package). That's kinda like the sweet spot for me
That spare tire makes a world of a difference
The lack of wireless apple carplay is a huge bummer. They offer a 6 cyl but no wireless Apple CarPlay. The Lexus has wireless Apple CarPlay but they discontinued the 6 cyl. Super frustrating.
I like this SUV all over
That infotainment knob location would drive me crazy.
Just got of a test drive and meeeeeeeeen 2022 safety award plus 10 year warranty
Great video! The Cons are really not great. Especially the shift dial vs the infotainment controller!
There are no free lunches guys! If you want a real Mercedes and what that comes with, you have to pay more.
They need to make the option to disable the auto stop/start permanently. My lady’s ‘21 Kia Sorento x-Line Prestige stop/start sucks.
All your points are valid. I hope Hyundai listens and corrects the points you disliked.
Same things with my GV80. Small things with ergonomics in otherwise perfect vehicle.
I have wireless Apple CarPlay in my Kia K5 and it sucks. The screen will randomly go black and I get an error message. This happens especially when im using Google maps to get somewhere.
Does Genesis require premium fuel for their cars?
I took one on a long test drive. Like Tamir' and Saul's comments, absolutely no start/stop shudder issues whatsoever. Maybe the specific model you had? I own a Merc GLC and the stop/start on that is far worse.
You can get all the features with the 4 cyl in other markets, like Canada.
This guy said $50,000 or maybe I didn’t hear well because of the surrounding noise in my home. Let me know what is correct. Nice video
ouch, in Canadian market, we do get a HUD at 2.5T advanced trim. I guess it differs from market to market.
If you want to protect your engine you need to turn off the auto engine stop/start every time you start the car. I think virtually every car defaults to that feature so just like putting on your seat belt you need to hit the off button. I think head up display is way overrated.
The 4 cylinder engines are much more robust than a V6 less vibration on a V6 therefore much more smoother
Can someone comment on whether the cargo bay in the GV70 will fit two full size golf bags? My CX-9 can actually hold 4 bags with 4 passengers but I'm really interested in either the 70 or possibly the 80. Thank you.
I was set on asubaru outback touring xt, I will have to test the GV70
Great video!
I've watched probably a dozen reviews of the GV70 and no one else mentioned an issue with stop start function.
This solves for Android auto wireless Motorola MA1 Wireless $90. Plugs into USB port.
I also agree on the shifters lol. I get confused with the shifter
Nice review. Agree the gear knob and info should be switched…
I agree 100% with the 2 dislikes. Wireless aa/app should be on every product kia and hyundai sells
Genesis is meant to be a luxury brand. And with most, if not all luxury brands, you do have to upgrade to a higher model to get certain things. And a wireless charging pad doesn't mean it's going to have wireless CarPlay.
It doesn’t on all trims
Hey man, any new feedback after 1 year ? :) Would you recommend the car ?
I just Dislike the STOP & START System...... What if it can not Restart the Engine while we at the STOP light 🚨
The Wireless Carplay thing you can fix with an aftermarket kit but yeah, annoying.
Why? You gain so little with Car Play/Android Auto using Wired or Wireless connectivity.
F
The interior looks really cramped compared to competitors. Maybe it’s just the video. But it looks almost claustrophobic
That start stop shutter is a huge deal. I don't understand how you can't record that. I would honestly avoid making claims like that unless you are able to emulate it.
It’s mainly something you feel, not see.
Nice review
Great review...
no wireless car play is really bad for this price point...
I’m constantly amazed at how spoiled we are.
So connecting a wire takes down the luxury feel huh. So connecting your Tesla model S charger takes away the luxury feel ? Connecting your 200 inch roll up TV screen to the wall takes away the luxury feel ?
You pretentious self serving entitled ma'fakkas .....🙄
Is anyone aware they make wireless adapters for this situation? Problem solved.
Wireless is not something i care about. A wired connection will always be more stable.
Start stop is about like any other cars. You can turn it off.
Hows road noise?
I hardly complain about wireless android/🍏 car play because you can always connect with Bluetooth which is 100% wireless with all functions of wireless!!!
Heads up display is available in 2.5t.
Not in my market, the US
Same here avaliable in Canada
i have to manually shut off auto shut every time.... that just is a game changer for me, im definitely not getting it now
Great warranty!!
engine sounds weird whenever you accerlerate. It does not sound sporty.
Thanks for the review!
I understand and I still dont like it. I never use onboard nav, in any brand.
Everyone can’t know everything. These Hyundai ppl are sensitive asf
@@rahimi4762 I own a VW. Geez, these haters get triggered so easily. Oh, also, Hyundai and Kia aren’t the only brands that have this issue.
It's funny my 2015 Hyundai sonata has hands-free Apple carplay and Android auto
You can buy a Buick encore for like $25,000.
Is this CUV really worth an additional $25,000??? Maybe an extra $10,000 but not double!
… but then you have to tell people you drive a Buick. Plus the encore is ugly as hell.
@@MrSeanJava Hah!!!! That part ^^^ lol. 😅🤣🤣🤣
Question: Do both engines have dual injection?
I agree with you…especially your likes. Thanks for pointing out the differences with NX because I have been mentally comparing them myself. 🏳️🌈
They both have dual injection
I thought this new GV70 price is $74,000
This is laughable. Dude I appreciate your video and the time you put into making it, but it's a trade off. Genesis is giving you so much. Man when you own and Audi, BMW or Mercedes you pay pay and pay!!! Even with Lexus you pay!!!
With Acura you just play
My biggest beef; how noisy this car is, particularly on acceleration; way more than you seem to imply here. Irony here is, your insistence on how quiet it is! Second issue: controls layout. As you mention, the touch screen up on the dash is just too far for comfort. Also, I really dislike the rotary-type gear shift selector. The stick on the steering column, as in the Mercedes and Tesla, is the most convenient and accurate type, and it also leaves more room on the central console for other controls.
Turn off the augmented noise
Trim piece tacked onto the bottom of the doors is cheap and flimsy. Wonder how long that will stay attached. Dash is surprisingly cheap, hard plastic. Would be nice to have a bit of padding.
It’s not as nice as RDX and XC60
