My local ride. Glad you enjoyed it. Nice little extra climbs at Otford, down to Wattamolla, and also to Bundeena if you want some extra km. Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I thought about this approach, it seems like this is the more common way. I was aiming for a loop that would do Garie Hill the right way, but I guess an out&back would also tick the box.
Going up from Artillery to the top of garie along flatrock absolutely sucks though. No one likes it, which is why no one does it. Its much better to head all the way south on the highway, and get to descend through the whole park, get the Garie climb, then descend again to Audley.
That was great, I go down that way most weeknds. I find that most of the roads including the main highways are pretty great to ride on. Obviously you missed Kurnell/Cape Solander and also the decent/acent from Waterfall into the RNP is great too - also if you are looking to full send it, the ride on the main road from Waterfall down to sea level is pretty great fun.
Roads in the park were a delight. Highway was ok, except the last 5/10 KMs of the highway where I got a flat. Too much alternating between the shoulder and the verge and lots of glass. I have seen the Waterfall segment which seems like a cool add-on. I think next time I might drive down and hit a bit more of it.
Dam, I've only been along the river on Qantas Drive on my daily commute to the Airport, definitely have to build up the legs to go that far down south, great ride👍
GoPro Hero 12 and sometimes iPhone 15 Pro. Nothing space in settings other than max resolution. Rest is editing, which I am intentionally using only Final Cut Pro for iPad 😜.
Avoid the RNP on the weekends and public holidays. Too many cars and motor bkes. Makes a beautiful ride less joyful. I think that climb up from the bottom of Waterfall (you called it Garie Hill) is one of my favourite climbs in Sydney. It is best done early morning on a weekday when there are very few cars. And yes you can ride through the Airport tunnel but it is dark noisy and far from safe. They have recently opened a new path around the back of the airport and you can ride from Brighton Le Sands to Mascot (or the other way) along a fast paced cycle path with some pretty amazing scenery. Much more enjoyable and safer than General Holmes Drive and just as quick or as leisurely as you like.
That ride looked so enjoyable. I can see an endurance type bike in my future. Having ridden along the freeway, I hear you on the highway not being fun. For me, it wasn't just riding along that was the problem, it was the on ramps and off ramps that were the problem.
Super enjoyable. Unlocking the fitness to power these full days adventures is absolutely worth it. Highway/Freeway is intense, and requires extra vigilance, the ones down south are good by comparison, they have a wide shoulder and a dedicated verge, but it is hard to keep such long stretches clean and consistent.
Its a pity that the access into the RNP is blocked at waterfall stn, a landslide further down has closed the road. Plus the access to Garie Beach has been closed for over 2 yrs again the road has vanished into the valley. Nothing seems to make these repairs go faster. Was my Peaks training course and to do Garie repeats from the bottom of Waterfall hill meant going via Bald hill. Did 5 repeats one day and then back via the Bundeena ferry. To avoid the traffic after the Bundeena turnoff going north. Its just feral at times. And plain dangerous on your own. You are spoilt on the Northside with the likes of West Head ,Akuna bay etc. It is a trial to get there from the Sutherland shire though. 90min drive, train even worse, riding forget it. I plan on living a bit longer.
Everyone says the same about Garie beach. I wonder what’s holding it back. Need to get the local member into gear. Plenty of campaign signs up everywhere for both sides. 5x Garie is a good effort Davo. Can definitely relate to switching parks, it’s the same burden in either direction. Kuringai is pretty special though. Lots of options.
Nice, but avoid Acacia Road at Sutho next time. Too much traffic there. Head through Sutho itself, or else up the back way past the Brick Pit. Strava Heat Maps would show you where the overwhelming majority ride. Or else, come join a local bunch one weekend.
Yay, my neck of the woods-ish. Definitely better, quieter ways to get to RNP, longer but quieter. And as has been mentioned there's Kurnell / Cape Solander also. Great video, keep it up.
I think the main Garie climb is the one from the beach to the top of the hill. It has been closed for a while due to a landslide during the last la Nina. Next time you head south check out Otford Hill/Wall. It is my pick of the toughest climb in that area. It starts in the valley behind the Bald Hill lookout where you stopped ua-cam.com/video/sVbyOHIXYeA/v-deo.htmlsi=MUM3-MUJUWJEXS4j
I absolutely love riding through there. It is one of my favourite places to cycle in Sydney.
With good reason. If it wasn’t so far from me I would do it on the regular.
Great day out! Thanks for the video, nice with my morning coffee ☕👍

Awesome dude, thanks for reaching out. So many good extras for next time I am down there.
Turn left into the RNP at Loftus and avoid the highway next time, adds more elevation and fun descending too.

Definitely worth the stretch. Mind you that is a pretty cool commute along the river there.
Kudos to you, excellent ride through national park.. and the hard way too
Thanks Michael, well worth the effort!
Any ride over the bridge is an adventure :P
Nice video mate
Ain’t that the truth. Thanks dude. Great minds think alike, enjoyed your RNP jaunt too.
@@ModerateCyclist Your video quality looks amazing btw, what do you use and what settings?

Nice ride. Looks oddly familiar.

Haha, I can only imagine you have done these ride many times over. Thanks for watching. I preordered your TdF magazine today. Looking forward to it.
Errrr i died climbing up that Audley Hill climb last time... The rest of the route was nice indeed
Audley was a bit of a shock to the system. Lucky it was short.

Thanks for the advice mate. As you can tell we were making it up as we went 😜. Will definitely keep this in mind for next time.

Thanks mate, definitely taken both of those notes. You are lucky to live close to it. Amazing location!

Thanks for sharing the video and the Strava route. RNP Grand Slam! Very cool. I will make sure I add on some of this spice next time I am down there.
100% The Wall. The steepest climb in the area. Great to take a mate to who doesn’t know what is coming up. :)
Surprised you hadn’t been to RNP
Long overdue!
Getting from the city to rnp there are some softer quieter ways to do it.
Haha, yes our route there was pretty bad. We were too busy chatting and autopilot took us towards Lapa.
Go ride Hawkesbury lookout
I have Bowen Mountain on the list, looks like this is close by. Might be a good 2-for-1. 🤔 when is the next public holiday...
