Love those old Vmax's!! I had a 97 700 SX, got a RX Yamaha warrior 4 stroke and now back to the vmax again! Always best to soak the whole carbs in varsol or use a brush and clean them before working on them. Keep in mind not to use too much easy start in the engine, it will wash the oil off the cylinder walls and not run well. Those were bullet proof engines, basic maintenance and they will go for ever but they drink lots of fuel! Hello from Kingston ON!
Hey fellow Canadian :D, i used to live in ontario before i moved to new brunswick. Yeah i agree on the starter fluid, says it does come with some lubricant but... I really didn't want to use it as much as i did, but in any case it's all good at this point. I will go through a full tear down in the future, it was just a test to make sure it was running at some level. Glad to hear they are good/crazy/fun rides, hopefully i can make it last a while!
Assuming it's like my 99 yamaha. The oil pump feeds oils to the fuel pump and somtimes it will gravity feed oil through the pump and completely fill the carb bowls preventing them from functioning properly. Just had same thing happen to me. On these "old starts" I always pull carbs first clean em and make sure air box is clean. Also a good idea to flush the fuel tank
Yeah i have a feeling it is feeding it to much oil. I will at some point go through the whole full system and it may need the vacuum pump to be cleaned or replaced. I was also being a bit lazy and just wanted to make sure the thing was running so that's why i didn't go through the whole process of cleaning everything up. But i agree with you, clean it all before running! :D
lol yeah! Not sure why i learned to say it that way. I know it's more of a brand than a type of vehicle. Just been saying it that way for... many many years :D
yoooooooo!!!! you are the only person other than us newfoundlanders that calls all snowmobiles "skidoos"
LOL, yeah i don't even know why i say that but it has stuck over the many many years!

Yep, always a good idea. Just to prevent sucking any mouse house pieces or shit farther in.

Near the muffler (right side) it looks like it's leaking rad fluid or something
Oh thanks, i'll have to check that out, didn't notice it!
Skiddoo????

Michigan sucks for the last 2 years for snowmobiling 😊anymore
It's been on and off here too, sometimes we get amazing winters for it and other times your lucky if you get a few good runs.
