I used to have one of these, Upgraded to a 2011 Switchback Assault, ended up giving my son the 500, it was fan cooled. Although the fans we're a bit more unreliable, they we're great engines. I wish they would've kept the liquids instead of the fan 550.
The 550 went to market before it was ready. It suffered from poor ventilation in the Edge chassis and unfortunately it can’t away from the poor reputation. My daughters EVO has the 550 and it’s been rock solid for the past 3 years.
Funny tidbit.. We have a 98 one of these in the family..We dropped the needles down one notch. Lady driven it has consistently got 18mpg for the last 3 years.. Huge improvement.. But am sure in midrange it might be leaner than it should be...
My dad had a 91 500 sp. That thing was gorgeous. I also like yours to, yours is in nice shape..thanks for the video I'll be following the series for sure now that you got that canadian garbage out of your garage 😂
I'm in awe you found a broken 500 Fuji.
I didn’t even try to start it. I’m sure it still ran reasonably well. 😀
Can't believe how clean that head was. Great video, looks like a fun project.
I was too. I was pleasantly surprised. 😀
Possibility it was buring coolant
Great video Tom! That's the same engine on my 96 Classic, so I'll be saving this in case I need to do a tear down. Looking forward to the reassembly.
I figured since there’s about a billion of these that were made. Someone may find it useful. 😀
Good video. Can't wait for the crank work in part 2.
My only concern is that the outer race is going to separate from the inner when I try to remove it.
Nice! Love my 91 500, me and my father bought it 1995, still have it, fun to see a resto 😎
Thanks. It was a fun project. Sled was in great shape.

Nice!
91 probably the best looking in my opinion, especially the 650.
absolutely. The early wedges had some of the best designs. 91 and 92 were great years for graphics and color combo's
How do you get the crank shaft out once you split the case!? Is it just stuck in their from the oil seals? I can't figure it out.
It’ll come out. Take a dead blow hammer and tap the end of the crankshaft to break the seal from the case.
Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!@@StreetersGarage
@jfigs1649 No problem, Good Luck!

Hah too funny. Everyone hated the Ski-Doos. Very low feedback / interest on them. I’ve learned my lesson. 🤣🤣🤣
Now yer talkin - my kind of rebuild
I have to admit. It feels good getting back to a Wedge.
If only Polaris would have kept this engine instead of the 550 fan.. They would have dominated the economy sled market.
Completely agre
Sweet sled !
Oh yeah!
does anybody think that Fuji 500 motor has never been apart? You may be the 1st person tearing apart motor !
From what I saw this was the first time it was torn down.
Gosh.. i wish i could send my 06 fusion to you.. nothing wrong yet.. but that day will come
