    Greetings from Wis! Nicely done! Thx for excellent K3ii run thru. I’ve used it for about 2 years with outstanding performance, and dozens of legacy lenses. Dittohs on the grip! I’ve small hands but the grip is amazingly versatile and steadies the shots. IBIS in the K3ii is very good! Yes, it works fine as a field camera and easily manages manual lenses, which opens up hundreds of choices. A Pentaxian & new subscriber.

      I appreciate the positive comment. Hopefully at some point I can make another video about Pentax gear. I was thinking of getting back into M42 lenses by way of an adapter on a mirrorless camera.

    Good story and info. I too started with the ist, a DL I think. Though I learned photography in high school on much older Pentax film SLRs. I had the better medium format cameras including the 645NII which was amazing. I have decided to return to Pentax with a K-3 and the K1. Canon and Sony full-frames will soon depart my collection. I'm going to check out your older Pentax videos. Cheers, and Go Rockford! Home of Cheap Trick.

      Yeah, use what works best for you! They are releasing a new K-3 probably sometime next year. www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/explore/new_aps-c_dslr/

    Been shooting with the K3II for a while now, I moved on from the K5. I absolutely love it!!! I shoot with the sigma 8-16mm, pentax 16-85mm, pentax 55-300mm, pentax 50mm F1.8 and the pentax macro 100mm F2.8.
    Hopeing to get hold of the sigma 18-35mm F1.8 soon for low light situations :) and the pentax 55 F1.4

      Nice! I really liked the DA 55mm f1.4 and that DFA 100mm f2.8 WR macro when I had them.

    Love how rugged Pentax are, but the hopelessly outclassed autofocus system broke my heart, moved up to Sony.

      I have a similar experience. I did really like aspects of last Pentax cameras I used, but AF could be a struggle at times. (K-7 and K-5).

    Is this a smart upgrade from pentax k-s2? I kind of use the vary angle LCD screen on K-S2 a lot, tho

      @ScottJWaldron  6 років тому +1

      If you use the fully articulating LCD then don't. A few megapixels and other features are not worth losing a feature you enjoy. Otherwise it would depend on what the camera can do better that would benefit your photography. Specification wise I'm seeing slight improvements such as more AF points, slightly quicker max shutter speed, more FPS in burst mode, dual card slots, bigger battery, built-in GPS... really not a whole lot besides that outside of general ergonomics I'd imagine.

      It's not. You should only upgrade if there's a real problem with your current camera that the next one solves.

    New subscriber, great content. I want to upgrade from the k5 and held both the KP and k70...they are tiny compared to the grip on the k5.so do you think the k3ii is still a good camera choice for the next 3 to 4 years?.

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  3 роки тому +2

      I'm not knowledgeable about Pentax these days. This camera is definitely an upgrade compared to the K-5. Both cameras have been out of production for a long time. So I'd think it would be a matter of if you can find a used one in decent condition at a good price given Pentax's limited market share. There is a K-3 III in development right now, but I'm not sure when it will be released. Ricoh has product development information here: www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/explore/new_aps-c_dslr/
      If you want something new that will last you a long time then definitely look at the K-3 III in development.

    Pentax k1 mk2 owner..love that camera..might try some APS-C models....

      I think the KP is the most current APS-C. Though, I don't think it was intended to be as advanced as the K-3 II. They did announce development of a flagship APS-C camera (a true replacement for the K-3 series), but there is limited information and I think the official announcement won't happen until mid 2020.

      Thanks for the info! It's appreciated. That lens seems to have 2 of the 3 "Pentax high-end markers", "HD" and "Limited". How does it compare to D* lenses? They would appear to be Pentax's top lens, maybe described as Pro lenses. I have 2 * lenses, the FA* 70-200 f2.8 and the DA* 50-135 f2.8, which I probably should have bought first and then forgotten about the (very heavy and too long for my normal use) 70-200, since I shoot models in studio with a K-3. It's good for birds (the feathered ones), but I don't shoot them very often.
      Anyway, the * lenses are miles above the DA 18-135 and a couple of other Pentax consumer lenses that I own. They are so sharp, and have upgraded water resistance. Having sampled "the good stuff", I won't be going back to non-* lenses if I can manage it. The 70-200 2.8 is kind of long for indoor use, but if I'm shooting outside, the longer perspective from being further away could be quite helpful.
