The Super Stock Dodge was also mentioned in the Little Old Lady from Pasadena. I grew up in the 1960s one of my high school buddy's dad had a 62 Plymouth with a Super Stock 413 in it. There were very few cars that could beat it. Even in 1969 when we graduated. A big block Stingray could beat it but not by much.
Is that your guess for name that tune It was a high horsepower car even now it’s fast I was just thinking in terms of 409 versus 413 the 413 put you in your seat a whole lot more than the 409 in my opinion
@@What.its.like. No that wasn't my guess but the artist was Jan and Dean for the song. I wrote the comment before the end of the video, then I heard the song.
The 413 Max Wedge super stock Dodge is referring to the 1962Dodge Dart with the Max Wedge package in which only about 18 of them are accounted for today of the said 300 made
My father left me a car collection in 99. I have both cars and raced them 100 times under every condition possible. Like slicks, bumped timing, you name it. That 413 wins every single time!! Every time!
Thank you so much just curious where are you located? That is something that I really want to film just to put the Corvette guys in their place.. because that car gets so much praise and it’s really not better. Shoot me an email. I think it’s very fitting. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with those cars the 413 when it hooks up it has so much force it’s hard to explain. It just puts a big smile on your face.
YES! The 413 was actually a faster car. Here are the Googled statistics: "A 1962 Plymouth Savoy with a 413 Max Wedge known as the “Melrose Missile” became the first factory stock car to break into the 11 second range in July of 1962. The Missile ran a verified ¼-mile time of 11.93 seconds at 118mph." 1963 Corvette Fuelly 14.1 to 14.5 seconds at 98-100 mph.
Shut Down: History The song details a drag race between a Super-Stock 413 cu. in.-powered 1962 Dodge Dart (not a Plymouth) and a fuel-injected 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray and is derived from a longer poem by Christian. Many classic car enthusiasts and experienced muscle car drag racers have suggested over the years that in actuality, all things being equal (i.e. drivers of equal skill), an early 1960s SS Dodge Dart (most likely the 1962 Max Wedge variant) with its 413 cu. in. engine with twin 4-barrel carburetors ("dual quads") and ram-air induction, producing 410-420 horsepower, 460-470 torque, would have most likely easily beaten a 1963 Chevy Corvette Sting Ray with its fuel injected 327 cu. in. engine producing roughly 350-360 horsepower, 352 torque. Great song though and nice review. I know this, my 64 Plymouth 426 - - beat many the Vette.

I was fortunate enough to have a 1967 Corvette base 327/300 4 speed. A close friend, AJ, had a car similar to the one in this video, I believe it was a 1965 Dodge Dart 413. We did not race off the line, but we did “road race,” driving fast in upper Westchester where in the 1960’s the roads were often almost empty, curvy, hilly, two lane with no posted speed limit, where it was difficult to exceed 70. My understanding being that at the time in New York State, unposted roads had a 55 mph speed limit. At the time I had no idea his car, much less attractive than a Vette, would become classic. I expected to win our races and I did. Ten years later I was driving a 1977 Chevy Vega and the nationwide maximum speed was 55. Things change.
Hey Jay, the early sixties Chrysler products are odd looking indeed thanks to Virgil Exner!!! The Corvette is far & away more attractive than the Savoy but on a straight away, the Savoy will take the Corvette!!! Thanks for sharing this interesting comparison!!! 👍👍🙂
It’s crazy to think that savoy grocery getter will annihilate one of the most highly praised corvettes, where was the coverage back then. Studebaker R3 vs savoy would be a cool match up lots of underrated cars. I still stand by my statement nothing could be better than the corvette and if there was something better just didn’t get the coverage. Much like tesla now they just don’t include that car faster than everything, but remember when Nissan GTR was the fastest brought it ever time double standard

My dad's first super stocker was a Plymouth Savoy 413/410 that he raced for Al Roberts Plymouth in 1962. The Beach Boys' song was not the way it would really have been.
1N 1964 MY DAD PASSED A CORVETTE @ 140 IN A CHYSLER 300 L 413 WITH 6 PEOPLE IN SMOOTH COMFORTABLE STYLE I WAS 9 YEARS OLD IN THE BACK MY MA WAS YELLING AT MY DAD WHO WAS SMILING
I'll never forget when my dad came home with his his new Chrysler 300-K. I was a block from home on my bike with some friends, when my dad spotted me on his way home and pulled over saying "Let's take a ride before your mother makes me take it back." That made me laugh, mom didn't. She almost never said no to him. It was the most awesome car I had ever seen: Midnight Green with a then "experemental" 8-Track player and a 413 Wedge Cross-Ram dual 4 bbl setup. Dad took it out to a racetrack he had just built in Byron Georgia and the guys at the track told him to keep it over 90 mph on the high bank or it wouldn't stay up there. I didn't know at the time how nuts that was. Bias ply street tires on a heavy car? Maybe on today's best radials, but I'm not sure how many laps I'd push my luck with that heavy car at A.I.R.!
We had the this Plymouth with in the 4 dr. Wagon. I was 4 years old when dad pulled up in this with his buddy. I still remember mom behind the wheel and dad and his rocking the front and back of the car giving mom a bouncing ride and her laughing. I loved that wagon and it was well hated. I also love the ‘62 Dodge. Virgil Exner was Fired for the weird designs he came up with down sizing and trying to make them European looking. The same man was praised for the Forward Look of the 1950’s Chryslers.
I had a really cool analogy in a second page that I didn’t end up using but I should’ve used it the late 50s was like being at the party in the early 60s it was like the hangover afterwards like what the heck happened.. I know Virgil Exner was the leader of the forward walk he’s in charge of all the fins he didn’t want the fins to go away.. he got fired over this because Newburgh president of Chrysler went to a garden party where Ed Cole was present Cole talked about the new Chevy And how much smaller it was Newburgh panicked because Plymouth was a direct competitor to Chevy so they thought that they were downsizing all of the cars in Plymouth had big cars sales probably would’ve suffered.. unbeknownst she knew Burgh Chevy was still making full-size cars they were just releasing a new line of cars that were smaller than the full-size cars..
The 413 wasn't that much heavier than the stock 361 BB (413 was an RB). The 361 was standard in the higher-end Belvedere and Fury, but the Savoys were a bit lighter. The 361s were the first platform used for higher output with the in-line dual quads with the oval shaped air cleaners. This was referred to as the "RTS" for Rapid Transit System. Those are actually quite rare as well, but nowhere near as gnarly looking as the short-tunnel cross ram intake and dual Carter AFB's. I have a '62 Polara 500 2-door that's my retirement project car. It has a 361(which, by the way, produced a very respectable 300hp with 325 ft./lbs. of torque). That Max Wedge is one seriously sweet looking ride. I was never much of a Corvette person, but that '65 is a beautiful looking ride. Still, as has been mentioned throughout the thread of comments, the 413 wins just about every time. Those 90-degree RB big-blocks produce overwhelming amounts of low-end torque on launch and a drag race is won in the first 80 feet.
I think price comparison between now and then makes this series of video more practical and allows us deeper understanding. Talking about Beach Boys, I love the ending scene of the movie American Graffiti, by the way.
The flares on top of the fenders of the Savoy remind me a lot of the flares on the re-designed Ram for 1994. The flares also extended into the doors on the Rams of those years.

The song is The Little Old Lady from Pasadina, but I'm not sure if that's the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean, both groups sang that song. Great review on these two cars.
I use the Jan & Dean version but I think I like the beach boys version better it’s faster Brian Wilson wrote that song if I’m not mistaken and his dad was really upset because he kept writing hits for other bands Brian Wilson wrote This song all he really wanted to was produce music he didn’t want to be in a band. He wanted to compose and write songs it’s sad story really guy was a genius Thank you =)
Very true but super stock was always Plymouth ram charger is Dodge and they say superstock referring to a Plymouth but it really could be either car because they’re very similar
@What.its.like. Super Stock was the NHRA class they ran in, and likely what was referred to in the song. So a Dart would fit. Both the Dart and Savoy are B bodies in '62 though, so minimally different.
@@What.its.like. But the "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" was driving a "Brand New Shiny Red Super Stock Dodge" we were told... Could Jan and Dean have it wrong too?? Hmmmm........
Yeah I think they started the debate I believe Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys wrote the song and he wasn't a car guy.. which is super ironic The performance dodge was ramcharger Plymouth was super stock but super stock dodge does sound better
@@What.its.like. According to Google: "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena" is a song written by Don Altfeld, Jan Berry and Roger Christian, and recorded by 1960s American pop singers Jan and Dean. Singer/songwriter P.F. Sloan sings the falsetto part usually sung by Dean Torrence, while Dean sings one of the backup parts. This was the first time P.F. sang the falsetto on a single, although P.F. had already sung some falsetto on the last album Dead Man's Curve/The New Girl In School. Wikipedia
@USCG.Brennan Yes, "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" was a song by Jan & Dean and was covered by The Beach Boys. In the song the "Super Stock Dodge" was a Ram-Charger that ran in the NHRA Super Stock class. Thus, "SuperStock Dodge!" As a kid, I always thought the the song "Shut Down" was wrong, and the 413 should have "shut down" that Vette. By the time I was 18, I was dreaming of a Corvette with a 426 Hemi.😊
As mentioned below, the 413 in the song "Shut Down" is a Dodge Dart. When I hear the Jan and Dean song "Little old lady from Pasadena", I always pictured the "shiny red Super Stock Dodge" referenced as a '63 or '64 Dodge 330 (basically an up-trimmed Dart) with the 426 Max Wedge option. Am I wrong?
@@What.its.like. True, but I’ve also heard the 426 MW referred to as the Chrysler Super Stock engine (mainly by a friend in Vermont who owned one and desperately sought a cheap ‘68 Charger R/T to drop it into, but by then they’d already started to appreciate beyond his means) so I just assumed it was a reference to the 426.
Super stock dodge sounds better tho ramcharger is eh it does vibe like super stock dodge.. And everybody said there’s nobody meaner, than the little old lady for Pasadena =D You might have a goer but you’ll never lose her. I like The Beach Boys version it’s faster than the OG
@@What.its.like.Yeah, I have the Jan & Dean version on my iPod but I agree about the Beach Boys version. It occurred to me after I posted the above that the reason my buddy called it the "Super Stock engine" might have been to avoid someone breaking into his place to steal it. I'll ask him about it this summer. "Guys come to race her from miles around, but she'll give 'em a length and then she'll shut 'em down." Sounds like early sixties MOPAR to me! Ever heard the Pat Traverse (the best IMHO) version of "Hot Rod Lincoln"? I have fond memories of that song playing on the radio while traveling much too fast as a passenger in a baby blue '61 Newport with a 413 salvaged from a '63 Imperial. My dad's boss had a brand new Mercury with a 429 and it drove him nuts that my dad could leave him behind without even trying in the Newport.
I think the 413 would eat the Corvette though that car when it hooks up it hooks up.. and it’s light .. I worked at that Classic Car dealership over that summer and I really really wanted them to just drive both of those cars first one to 60-70 miles an hour winds or whatever.. we never did it because the Corvette is six-figure car. I got the opportunity to push both of those cars. It’s harder to push a Corvette. I had to push the Savoy about a quarter mile back to the showroom. I shut it off. Those things are very temperamental with the cross ram they don’t like to start all the time and they can turn with the wind from tuning great to not running at all

@mylanmiller9656 Funny thing, i had a 1970 Nicky Nova SS with the 402cid L-78. This "396" was rated at 375hp. The original L-78s were rated at 425hp and even that may have been conservative. My agent just told the insurance company that it was a Nova and let them assume it was a grocery getter 😊 I also had '71 350cid Corvette Convertable with AC and 350 Turbo automatic that had no power that the insurance company slapped a big premium on just because it was a Corvette.

They said "Super Stock Dart" which would roughly be the same car as the Savoy. In 1962 the Dart series were "full size" cars in Dart 330 and 440 trim lines. They were the favorites of drag racers because they were much lighter than the big Custom 880 or even the Dart-based Polara 500.
I had to push that car last summer way easier to push than a corvette www.automobile-catalog.com/car/1962/2658560/plymouth_sport_fury_2-door_hardtop_v-8_413_max_wedge_410-hp_sp2.html#gsc.tab=0
The lyrics, called the mopar a dart, as in Dodge Dart, not a Plymouth savoy. Also lyrics read, super stock dodge is winding out in low. In the 1/4 mile, the only way the vette beats the mopar, is if the dodge runs out of gas, half way down. Now if you want to beat the mopar, bring a ford thunderbolt. Now that’s a race.
I drove the savoy it hooks up good my boss took me for a ride and pushed it I didn’t drive it to the limit like he did if someone was to put a $100 on the dash while in it.. it would t be possible to get it. The torque holds you to the seat. I’m going to ask again I’d love to see these two cars go at it 0-60 race
These 2 were street legal cars you could buy directly from a dealership.....that's why they called the "Super-STOCK" cars. The cars in this song were not ones suped up professionally for the drag strip.
The Plymouth is way way easier to push.. I had to push both I’m not entirely sure where I got the specs from every single site will have that car a different weight www.automobile-catalog.com/make/chevrolet_usa/corvette_c2/corvette_c2_coupe/1963.html#gsc.tab=0
Weren't they made of fiberglass? I openly question that weight rating. there were only two seats and no trunk to speak of. The car is supposed to be LIGHT.

A comparison that I really wanna do totally outside of the box would be 1957 Rambler rebel versus 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk both cars severely underrated both cars are fast they hold both the top two spots of fastest cars of the 50s the AMC rambler rebel was the fastest car produced in the 50s it blew the Corvette out of the water and it never got press time because it was so good and it shouldn’t have been but it was.. according to research that I’ve done that car is a four-door family car can go 0 to 60 I’ve seen as fast as seven seconds that’s faster than anything produced in the 50s in America.. couple caveats to that I heard that you had to have a 327 with fuel injection that’s right AMC offered feel injection just like Chevy but nobody ever heard of it because AMC was a very conservative company. And just got dusted under the rug so to speak.

Ok I've had both cars on scales and the Corvette is 3125 lbs in real life. The normal Savoy was 3650 in a form that the public could buy. The Aluminum findeted, bumpers and acid dipped cars are indeed that light but so fragile and none were actual steet car but sold as race cars to stock racers
But super stock was a term used by Plymouth and ramcharger was used by dodge and I think they changed (the beach boys who, Brian Wilson couldn’t surf but worth some of the best surf/beach song also didn’t know anything about cars other then they were cool ) taking that into consideration flipped the script and took a part from each name because dodge ramcharger doesn’t slip of the tongue neither does super stock Plymouth. Or Plymouth ramcharger but super stock dodge works great
The cobra race team Called Corvette Plastic Pacoderm Because it was way to heavy the super stock Dodges were lite weight and did raise hell on the big block Ford and Chevys!

Yes but ramcharger was the performance Dodge division super stock was Plymouth they’re both roughly the same car anyway I didn’t think I’d ever get the chance to do that episode I definitely know that I won’t get that chance again so I did not wanna miss that opportunity I did say in the video that they did saying about a Dodge and explain this whole situation, or at the very least think I did that one was awhile ago
Very good comparison but you have the weights wrong. The Savoy with a 413 weighs in at 3,530 lbs while the 65 Corvette with a 327 weight in at 3,117 lbs. I have the Corvette and can confirm that in real life.
Yeah it’s annoying youtube transfer issue it’s not like that until gets transferred/uploaded to youtube that’s the biggest reason I voice over not sure how to fix that
Dodge was ramcharger tho Super stock was always Plymouth they must’ve changed it for the song In a way they sang about both cars at the same time because Plymouth doesn’t sound as good as saying super stock dodge, I watched an episode I don’t remember where. Beach boys were talking about that song and they had to make a few changes to make it flow good, there were other songs where they did similar things

The Savoy Max Wedge 413 would beat pretty much any of the small block Vettes , including 375 hp fuelies. Futhermore , it could also win against Big Blocks too including L78 396 , and would be a close race with L71 427 and LS5 454 Vettes. I don't know. Conventional wisdom would tell me that a cool looking, aerodynamic, sexy Corvette should be able to blow the doors off a "granny" car like a Dodge Dart. That is---unless the Dart is the ultimate "sleeper car"

The Mopar will walk that Vette all day. The Vette isn't a drag car.. it's a touring car. That Plymouth, or big brother Dodge as it's supposed to be, is designed for straight line acceleration. There's no comparison and it shouldn't have ever been a question. Especially after 60 years. Even with second day mods, the Plymouth would be at more of an advantage.
I wanted so bad to take both of those cars out and run them. I got to drive the Savoy last year. I worked at the Classic Car dealership. My boss told me he’s like get on it don’t be scared. I said it’s not my car and he took me for a ride in it And I couldn’t believe what he could make it do.. that car was unbelievable. The only thing I will say is it could change with the wind that car could run good and in a moments notice it can run like complete garbage because of something really stupid like the gas cap isn’t venting properly. The crazy thing is it’s fast it’s affordable it isn’t pretty. It’s got an acquired taste but the more you’re around it the more I guess you grow love it. I suppose Corvettes are overrated anyway in my opinion.
This was a comparison based on the Beach boys song shut down you are totally correct in saying that not these two cars are nothing like each other but that Plymouth Savoy will eat the Corvette for breakfast lunch and dinner in the song the Corvette win but it’s not like that in reality to be completely fair there isn’t that many cars in the 60s that could go toe to toe with the Corvette this car can annihilate it.. it’s another outside the box comparison we do it outside the box comparisons on this channel
The stats clearly state that dodge in stock form will out run the corvette . Now once the modifications start taking place ? Dollar for dollar ,,, it’s hard to imagine that 400+ weight difference and base horsepower . Drag race hands down the Dodge is gonna kill the Vette . However. Just like today . That dodge is a one trick pony .. straight line
The dodge was/is cheaper I got to drive that 413 savory when it hooked up it was an incredible experience and I didn't even push it hard I worked at that dealership for a summer and the boss took me afterwards and showed me what it could do I was impressed the vette is cool but doesn't have the same feeling. The cross ram set up is very finicky tho
@ yes that 400+ hp and big torque was unheard of . It most definitely made GM & ford take note . The Corvette to me has always been a misunderstood car . Actually purpose built to be a super car on its inception. The 56 FI was the fastest production car in the world beating the Mercedes 0-60 by 2 seconds , which was the closest thing to it . Everything I’ve read about the BBC corvettes says they weren’t as balanced as the SBC . That they required a much more skilled driver to out run the smaller lighter engine cars on a road course . I’m a Chevy guy at the core but I really love any car that’s unique . The Shelby AC cobras , as well as the Dodge vipers ! Gosh what classics they all become . Pantera , GT-40 , Cheetah . Yes I’m down with all of them
Yes but dodges performance division back, then was called ram charger The song was written not correct I guess super sock. Dodge sounded better than super soft Plymouth or ram charger wouldn't fit in the song phrasing. The 413 would eat the vette, I had a 413 in a 39 foot motorhome, and it would smoke the dualies through intersections, this was with a 727 four planet torque flite, with 5.27 to 1 rear end, wheeee!!
I am addicted to big inch big blocks, have had some interesting examples, a COPO 1969 SS 396 375HP El Camino four speed, a 413 Sonic Ram Plymouth, and I was getting the small parts together to put a late 50s Desoto hemi into my 65 Plymouth Valiant when my wife totaled it (my mom bought it new, it spent it's life in the garage and had almost 900 thousand miles, and was all original), and a 1941 Willys coupe with a 421 (I think) Buick Wildcat engine with Hillborn fuel injection, M22 four speed, 57 Ford rear end, the engine was set back about 9 or 10 inches, and would do bumper dragging wheel stands, I miss those cars and those days

I do not believe the song limited the race to just the quarter mile. As a result, in a top end in race the Corvette would blow away the Mopar. Additionally, if the race was conducted around a curved roadway the Mopar would have no chance.
It happened on the strip where the road was wide so that would refer to it was a drag race never specified how far 0 to 60 in the Savoy will annihilate the Corvette at a fraction of the cost in the long run the Corvette would probably win I wonder how long it would take for it to catch up though

YES! The 413 was actually a faster car. Shut Down: History
The song details a drag race between a Super-Stock 413 cu. in.-powered 1962 Dodge Dart (not a Plymouth) and a fuel-injected 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray and is derived from a longer poem by Christian.

Wow great story thank you so much for sharing that

Welcome to the channel =)
My dad's first super stocker was a Plymouth Savoy 413/410 that he raced for Al Roberts Plymouth in 1962. The Beach Boys' song was not the way it would really have been.
1N 1964 MY DAD PASSED A CORVETTE @ 140 IN A CHYSLER 300 L 413 WITH 6 PEOPLE IN SMOOTH COMFORTABLE STYLE I WAS 9 YEARS OLD IN THE BACK MY MA WAS YELLING AT MY DAD WHO WAS SMILING
What an awesome story thank you so much for sharing that that really brought a smile to my face, just reading it =)
I'll never forget when my dad came home with his his new Chrysler 300-K. I was a block from home on my bike with some friends, when my dad spotted me on his way home and pulled over saying "Let's take a ride before your mother makes me take it back."
That made me laugh, mom didn't.
Cool! 😎
The weight he gave for the Corvette must have been with two testers and equipment aboard... actual weight about 3050 lbs...
I think price comparison between now and then makes this series of video more practical and allows us deeper understanding. Talking about Beach Boys, I love the ending scene of the movie American Graffiti, by the way.

I did this comparison because of The Beach Boys song being a huge fan and besides the song never saw these two actually go at it which I’d love to make happen.. just don’t think it will happen
Super Stock, (S/S) was the NHRA class the big block Mopars would race in.
you got the weight wrong on the Corvette bud It is 3180
This is where I got that information from
www.conceptcarz.com/s217/chevrolet-corvette-c2.aspx
They also say that "it's hot with RAM induction", so that sounds like a Dodge to me...
In my opinion it could be either car because superstock always talked about Plymouth dodge ram charger.. and realistically the two cars are really really similar the only thing different is the name and the spelling.. If somebody went and changed all the badges on the Plymouth dodge one would be none the wiser
@@What.its.like. I bow to your superior knowledge on the matter. Over here in the UK, the race would probably have been between a Ford Cortina and a Hillman Avenger, nothing like as exciting!
As for Chrysler products, would be great to see review of last Desotos.. 1960-1961.
I’ll add those to the list thank you for the requests
Ok I've had both cars on scales and the Corvette is 3125 lbs in real life. The normal Savoy was 3650 in a form that the public could buy. The Aluminum findeted, bumpers and acid dipped cars are indeed that light but so fragile and none were actual steet car but sold as race cars to stock racers
Awesome thank you so much for all the insight and information
Hey was 62 dodge dart and a 63 sting ray ,
But super stock was a term used by Plymouth and ramcharger was used by dodge and I think they changed (the beach boys who, Brian Wilson couldn’t surf but worth some of the best surf/beach song also didn’t know anything about cars other then they were cool ) taking that into consideration flipped the script and took a part from each name because dodge ramcharger doesn’t slip of the tongue neither does super stock Plymouth. Or Plymouth ramcharger but super stock dodge works great
The cobra race team Called Corvette Plastic Pacoderm Because it was way to heavy the super stock Dodges were lite weight and did raise hell on the big block Ford and Chevys!
That savoy will run circles around that Corvette
Listen to the song The Little Old Lady from Pasadena and you'll find out that what i am saying is fact the car referred to by the beach boys is a super stock Dodge Dart
Yes but ramcharger was the performance Dodge division super stock was Plymouth they’re both roughly the same car anyway
I didn’t think I’d ever get the chance to do that episode I definitely know that I won’t get that chance again so I did not wanna miss that opportunity I did say in the video that they did saying about a Dodge and explain this whole situation, or at the very least think I did that one was awhile ago
I had always thought the 413 referenced in the song was the rear end gearing on the corvette.
Very good comparison but you have the weights wrong. The Savoy with a 413 weighs in at 3,530 lbs while the 65 Corvette with a 327 weight in at 3,117 lbs. I have the Corvette and can confirm that in real life.
Awesome thank you so much for that Correction =)
It seems your audio is just little out of sync .
Yeah it’s annoying youtube transfer issue it’s not like that until gets transferred/uploaded to youtube that’s the biggest reason I voice over not sure how to fix that
I dislike your lack of research on the vehicle in the song the beach boys sang about which was a Super Stock Dodge Dart from 1962
Dodge was ramcharger tho
Super stock was always Plymouth they must’ve changed it for the song
In a way they sang about both cars at the same time because Plymouth doesn’t sound as good as saying super stock dodge, I watched an episode I don’t remember where. Beach boys were talking about that song and they had to make a few changes to make it flow good, there were other songs where they did similar things
I agree, the Savoy will win. It is a "beast".
Jan and Dean The Little Old Lady from Pasadena
That’s it someone got it before you tho =)
@@What.its.like. They forgot the artists....Jan and Dean
Ya but in the song it's a dart
not 5 seconds slower maybe 1/2 sec
The Savoy would blow the doors off the Vette everyday of the week and twice on Sunday!
Totally agree
2:48 Aint no way in hell did the 65 Corvette weigh in at over 3570lbs even with the 427. I bet in was barely 3200lbs!
Every one says something different I went with the heaviest figure I saw

@@What.its.like. Conceptcarz says Corvette is "steel unibody". Do a little research.
@@65sohc The steel unibody was the Plymouth - I know, because I owned one that got T-boned. That car , with a 361 V8, single 4Bbl, and 94,000 miles on it stayed right alongside my buddies 1961 Jaguar XKE to 140 mph on a fresh stretch of deserted freeway in 1968.
@@dougrowe3882 I mentioned Conceptcarz because they are the ones who claim a 65 Vette weighs 3500+, hence they are an unreliable source of info.
The Savoy Max Wedge 413 would beat pretty much any of the small block Vettes , including 375 hp fuelies. Futhermore , it could also win against Big Blocks too including L78 396 , and would be a close race with L71 427 and LS5 454 Vettes. However it didn't stand much of a chance against the mighty L88 427 , those were underrated by at least 100 hp and had a top speed that was crazy for the time of 170 mph 🏁
I like the Plymouth over the Vette
Super stock Dart (Dodge)
www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/plymouth/savoy/2579274.html
Ramcharger was dodge
I don't know. Conventional wisdom would tell me that a cool looking, aerodynamic, sexy Corvette should be able to blow the doors off a "granny" car like a Dodge Dart. That is---unless the Dart is the ultimate "sleeper car"
I got to drive a 413 car last year when it hooks up it doesn’t mess around we had a fuel injection stingray at the dealership but I didn’t get to drive it nor did I want to drive it because the car is a high dollar car but I would love to one day see which one is the pastor of the two it might come down to driver
No Corvette until the 427 stingray could threaten that max wedge! That song was JUNK!
There was a lot of information in that song that wasn’t right like super stock referred to Plymouth but they saying super stock dodge a dodge always went by ram charger
@@What.its.like. Super stock refurled to the NHRA class the cars were built for, both Dodge and Plymouth were Super stock Cars! You could get a Dart or Savoy with a Slant 6, in lt You could only get the Max Wedge in the Super stock cars.
I was hoping to see the dodge dart max wedge.
Not entirely true , the L88 Vette hooked up very well and could get into the 11s
with gears vette wins
Reading the lyrics it says super stock Dart…..
But super stock was Plymouth ramcharger is dodge
Perhaps it’s referring to the NHRA class the car ran in (super stock).
Like the corvette love the savoy
Why such random cars. This two are Nothing like each other
This was a comparison based on the Beach boys song shut down you are totally correct in saying that not these two cars are nothing like each other but that Plymouth Savoy will eat the Corvette for breakfast lunch and dinner in the song the Corvette win but it’s not like that in reality to be completely fair there isn’t that many cars in the 60s that could go toe to toe with the Corvette this car can annihilate it.. it’s another outside the box comparison we do it outside the box comparisons on this channel
In weight; what the corvette losses in fiberglass it dubbed in frame. Which is why they were Cobra food most of the time till 1968 😢
Little old lady from Pasadena Jan and dean
Yeah =)
Super stock means stock class a real car guy wood lone that,
I’ll have the Plymouth, MoPar or no car.
Yes let's do it
Had Chrysler not "down sized" in 62, installed curve side glass, cars would of been great looking.
Don’t ever sit in the back of a Vette again!
Can't promise that
Having owned both...lol assure u the Vette would take it off the line,but....the Mpar will get him top end even with lower compression!
That’s awesome thank you so much =) I wanted to run these cars 1st one to 60 413 is a beast
The dodge is much heavier and the corvette under 3000 lbs. That’s why this was a race in the first place.
I’m not sure about all that I had to push both.. the savoy definitely easier to push.. lol
The dodge was/is cheaper
I got to drive that 413 savory when it hooked up it was an incredible experience and I didn't even push it hard I worked at that dealership for a summer and the boss took me afterwards and showed me what it could do I was impressed the vette is cool but doesn't have the same feeling.
Yes I’m down with all of them
Dodge not Plymouth. Bad facts.
Eh wasn't dodge ramcharger tho.. super stock was Plymouth
Literally the 3rd verse. Superstock Dodge is winding out...
Yes but dodges performance division back, then was called ram charger
The song was written not correct I guess super sock. Dodge sounded better than super soft Plymouth or ram charger wouldn't fit in the song phrasing.
No need to get out of shape about something that's in the same car family they're practically the same car just different badging
www.motortrend.com/features/1962-plymouth-fury-max-wedge-413-muscle-car/
savoy is better all around. eat the stingray everyday of the week
Shut down Beach Boys
The 413 would eat the vette, I had a 413 in a 39 foot motorhome, and it would smoke the dualies through intersections, this was with a 727 four planet torque flite, with 5.27 to 1 rear end, wheeee!!
I got to drive that 413 that summer I believe it would have destroyed the vette.. but as you know nothing could be better than the corvette
@@davebaker9128 new cars don’t have the same feel, smell and overall experience like these machines.. one has to know how to drive the classic stuff.. traction control SUCKS
As much as I like Corvettes the Plymouth is the ugly duckling that I would love to have (especially with the 413/4x4s).
The Plymouth will hook up like nobody’s business not saying the Corvette won’t just saying that 413 with cross ram is something to behold
But then the vet would have no chance against a Ford Cobra, 427 or 298....
I believe its more than just 0-60 in the song - Pedals to the floor, hear his dual quads drink but the 413's lead is starting to shrink....
I pick the Plymouth any time ⏲️
It take a Mopar to catch Mopar!
That corvette was overrated
@@What.its.like. It still is.
