That's the most subdued Ric Flair interview ever

He was inching toward "WOOOODOM." Those early 80s NWA clips are great as a lot of the talent had different characters.

Flair is dressed like he came right out of Fantasy Island.

The reason the title switch wasn't acknowledged for months was that it was due to the fact that it only was a short term thing and they wanted to keep Flair strong. Of course, it probably would have been much different if David had won the belt. David was being groomed to be the next champion and his reign would have lasted a few months at least. Unfortunately we will never know because of David's passing.

Yea the titles meant something the world belt ment something then the only thing I hated was that Kerry von eric wasn,t acknowledged as the nwa champion until after Flair won it back in Japan it wasn,t mentioned on mid atlantic or world wide that Flair lost the belt at Texas Stadium that year.

Tully should have came in and bitch slapped Flair during this interview and proclaimed himself as #1 contender.

I think it was more the Crocketts than anything because people from other territories weren,t reconized outside jcp if it weren,t for the few tv stations that carried world class in my area no one would,ve know F lair lost the title until it showed up in the apter mag. one example is when Jay Youngblood died someone went up to David Crockett @ a show and asked if they were gonna mention anything about it and crockett said no

I am almost surprised at the ignorance of wrestling history displayed in several of the posts in this thread. Almost surprised, but not quite. After all, we are about 30 years past the time that is being discussed. I can't be the only one here who is too young to remember all this.

@Beyondlife7 Kerry was around before the Ultimate Warrior and Lex Lugar, so exactly how is he a wannabe them? He had the Modern day Warrior gimmic long before the warrior. And you got the wrong Fed they were in WCCW not AWA.

It's amazing to see this Flair and compare him to the one just a year or so later. It may actually have been Dusty who took over the book around this time at JCP that really pushed Flair to a much more heelish persona. The rest they say is history.

Yep. In fact, from about 1983 to late 84 Flair was a hugely over babyface in Mid Atlantic. Of course, a lot of that had to do with the fact that they were building towards Starrcade 83 when he faced Harley Race for the belt. Also, they didn't want to switch him back to heel too soon in the Carolinas. However, towards the end of 84 they were making him more of a tweener due to the fact that he was going to be wrestling Dusty, while at the same time he was feuding with a heel Wahoo and his future Horseman team mate Tully Blanchard. Ironically though he was still the a major heel in the other territories due to the fact that most of the NWA champions had to work heel in order to help make the local babyface champion.

The Von Erichs were some bums too. Glad they kept their corny azzes in the AWA.

@mrbluto3 Man I do not care about ticket sales,,, The Von Erichs were some paper champs. Kerry was a want to be Ultimate Warrior, Lex Lugar. He did not last in the NWA. Flair gave him the title for what a week, He would not had survived the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling area back when wrestling was wrestling...
