This place is amazing. Been to most of the major stores in the major cities and this is bigger than all of them by far. I found two legendary items here, the super hard to find Blade Runner water pistol (propmakers will know), and a limited release XL Zeon Tackle Box in Char colours. The misc model kits and obscure kits are a real treat to root through. Its a great place to plan mixing projects too because they've got different hobby items on display in the same place.
Thank you for this and wife and I just came back from Japan vacation trip. Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. This will definitely be on our next stop... Just need to figure out on how to get these back! 😂😂😂
I just watched the video of you showing off your Gundam books, so I know you must have been drooling when you rounded the corner and saw all those books! I believe you said you were going to refrain from buying anymore, and this must have put that to the ultimate test. Gosh, what an amazing store. Can't wait to see the gaming portion next.
They really increased the prices sense I was there, when I was in japan most of the models, even the newer ones were dirt cheap and was sold much less then the online prices. I regret I was forced to throw away all my old Hobby Japan magazines that I had. It was interesting to see the misalanious mech model section. Keep it up dudette.
The biggest hobby shop I ever went to was San Antonio Hobbies in Mountain View. This video makes me happy knowing these meccas still can exist for us nerds.
Ha I doubt that SA Hobbies would rival the amount of stuff you can find in Akihabara (granted that you may have to shop hop for to get to see everything). At the very least there is no way a US store would have the rare nos of Gunpla you would find in any Suruga-ya.
I think the main reason I would love to move to Japan is because they seem to have much better Hobby stores there than the US. Plus I think I could get some kits for a better price when it comes to the Macross series.
This is the reason I can't ever go to Japan. The PG GP01 put me in cardiac arrest first, then the vintage kits, then the Love Live corner at 1:53. The Zeta Plus just sitting there at 5:32! Ahh! Noooo! Then the vintage 1/60th kits! Oh come on! Legit, my dream kit is the 1/60th Wing Zero. I want to paint that up so bad! The 1/100th Epyon at 12:12 is also making me cry. Great cozy tour video, excellent to watch while eating pizza!
The problem about those Zeta Plus is that it has the red Bandai logos, which means it could be very old. The plastic of older prints like such could get pretty brittle even just sitting in the box. But if you are already painting everything then it shouldn't be an issue.
Great video. What is the biggest Gundam RX78-2 model available for purchase? Any idea if the one in the stores for exibition are for sale as well? thanks
It's impossible to find a MG Turn A here in Canada (unless you want to pay 3x the price on ebay) yet there are a stack just sitting on that shelf there. I'm so envious!
LOVE UR VIDEOS also pls always lookout for the NG Kapool kit they for some reason, are really rare. Saw the last one going for 40 dollars in the canadian ebay
0:43 "Now that looks like my aisle - wait, where are you going.....?" Disappointed that you didn't film the vintage non Gundam mecha kits (AGAIN) although you did redeem yourself with the vintage Gundam at 10:10 - especially with that blue onion kit. You really must get up earlier and make sure your battery is fully charged!!! 😊 Hobby Japan magazine
5:08 I am pretty sure that is the Theater Exclusive Delta Plus. It's a sparkle clear color version that was sold in theaters when Gundam Unicorn was playing. 5:19 I guess that is a variant of the Moon Gundam Long Rifle that was sold with a Gundam Ace magazine. I didn't know it had a metal metallic version. 11:28 To clarify you only get 1 of the 5 Core Fighters. F-2 should be the MG RX-78-2 Gundam 3.0's core fighter in clear color. The other core fighters are the clear version, G-3 colors, Full Armor colors, and Real type colors. This is one of the previous F prizes you could win from Banpresto's lottery.
I used to live in Shizuoka Prefecture for a few years, with a good view of Mt. Fuji from my apartment window. I didn't discover the Surugaya store until the last year I lived there. But, WOW. It wasn't like this! The first floor was video games, and the second floor had all the model kits. I don't remember it well, but it was rather cramped and it certainly did not look as nicely as this. They certainly upgraded the store! It was right on the main boulevard on the north exit of the station, but I wonder if this is the same building?
I think they moved the store to a new location a few years ago and built a brand new store. It all looked super new and nice! on google maps they still list the old location and it looks cool, but much less impressive.
@@pixxellie OK, that makes sense. They didn't move far away from their old location. Those unusual Gundam kits are interesting to see. There is a Surugaya in Takasaki (close to where I live) and it's a regularly-sized Surugaya store. That new location in this video is amazing.
Surugaya took over the building where the Marui department store used to be and opened the flagship store in October 2023. They still have the old location and use it to sell idol-related stuff.
Dang I was in Shizuoka and didn't even know this was there. Insane amount of cool kits, but looks pretty high price. HG vayeate/mercurius was tagged 7k and it was 6k at the gundam specialist store. Same for pretty much every other price I saw.
The gunpla prices in Surugaya are usually at least twice their MSRP. Especially those with the older red Bandai logo which are more valued than the blue logo reprints. Some are even thrice expensive like the MG Justice, despite the recent reprint. It may look cheap if your salary is in a foreign currency like the US Dollar. Not so much if you live here. MG Turn A just had a reprint for 4600 yen, though it was gone like in a hour. I'm not touching that used one for over 10000 yen. The tourists can have it...
hi iam forward to going to japan in 2025 may just to go to all the hobby shops i have a week! thank you for your videos help s me a lot is there a list of hobby shops for second hand model shops for Godzilla and rodan, kit. big? also old school hobby kits 1960,s where can i fine them? thank you for your help, Robert ,A
Joshin Super Kids Land in Osaka claims to be the biggest plastic model shop in Japan. It’s written outside of their store. It’s all new model kits though. I think this might be the biggest Used selection of Gunpla in Japan.
Question for anyone: What are some good stores in Okayama prefecture? I know there's maybe half a dozen or so, but not whichever would be best to source from, when/if I get to move there.
Did you notice any Orphans Gundams? So far all the Gunpla shops I've been to, including the stores at the Gundam Park in Fukuoka, never have any Orphans stuff. Was Orphans not popular in Japan?
good or bad? some of those old MG prices are a STEAL compared to ebay in the US. The sazabi for example can go for as much as $250 on ebay, and was only $45
@@pixxellie it was the price of the 1/144 Sentinel Zeta Plus (just from memory) that really freaked me out. When I went to Japan (2018) the out of production kits were sold at, or less-than retail. It seems now, they're massively inflated. I do hear you on the Ebay front. I want an MG EX-S/S 1.5 and it's going for $300-$400 on Ebay and Amazon. I'll be patient and wait for Bandai to do a repop.
Went there in early July. I spent $1700 or so I think in 2 hours. Although It was all games from the 3rd floor. I went twice, first time I ran out of money and went back a week later with more money, then asked the wife for the credit card. Everyone banging on about hard off's, I just say "Been to the Suragaya flagship store? No... Don't talk to me then" 🤣
@@pixxellieunfortunately, the cat is out of the bag already. There's barely deals anymore like we seen last year with their free shipping promotion. That Double Zeta MG you had in your hand was being sold for ~$40, now they increased the price to $65.

while I do love modern artwork on the gunpla boxes, those old boxes have just some insanely good artwork!

Thanks for the heads up, I will save this store in my list for my next Japan trip!
have fun!
There's a couple of model maker's spots you'll have to add to that too. Shizuoka is a great city of you like models and the history of model making.
Pixxellie, any and every store you've already shown on your channel have already changed my life including this one too!! 1:40 😊😊
