Exploring Zion in our Subaru Crosstrek | Winter Hiking in the Narrows

- We spent three days in February hiking and doing some winter photography in Zion on the East side of the national park. We stayed in a cozy cabin resort called Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort and this cabin was a great home base to our winter activities. This resort offered lots of beneficial amenities including a warm cabin, onsite cafeteria and a coffee shop that was perfect after long days in the park!

Day 1
Day one was our sightseeing day where we were able to drive into the park because of the shuttle system being down for the Winter. After driving around for a while we got out and stretched our legs by stopping at The Grotto where we hiked to the Emerald Pools. For dinner we stopped in Springdale for some pizza at Zion Pizza and Noodle Co. We finished the night at our cabin where a snowstorm swept in and left us Southern Californians in awe!

Day 2
On day two we woke up to our cabin completely covered in snow, made breakfast and headed back into the park for a day of hiking. We took the Mt. Carmel Highway back to the park and stopped for a hike at the Canyon Overlook Trail. We continued on the Mt. Carmel Highway to the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive and took it all the way up to the Riverside Walk. After spending some time photographing the canyons we headed back down to the Watchman Campground and photographed The Watchman at sunset. We finished our day at Camp Outpost and enjoyed delicious burgers and fried pickles!

Day 3
On day three we woke up with the sun and headed out to Zion Outfitter to get fitted for a dry bib to hike the freezing Narrows. Hiking the Narrows was an all day activity with us stopping at what seemed like every two minutes to photograph every turn of this amazing hike! After reaching a point of exhaustion we turned around to catch the second half of the Super Bowl. Luckily, the Zion Ponderosa Ranch has an onsite cafeteria where we stuffed our faces and watched the rest of the game.
This trip was so amazing! We haven't been to Zion in eight years and Eric (our brother and brother in law) drove down from outside of Salt Lake City to join us on this adventure and left us with some extra footage for this video. Thanks Eric! We're always looking forward to the next trip!

Holy cow. I saw the notification when you subscribed to our channel and clicked on yours. Glad I did! Your cinematography is sooooo good. Very similar to the look I want out of my Sony. My wife and I were in the wedding photography grind for quite awhile. I went on to do real estate 3 years ago and am now shifting into more personal work. Anyway, you've got a killer eye for composing shots and grading them. Hope we cross paths someday. This video really makes me want to return to Zion.

Thanks for the sharing... Why did you replace the BFG with the Toyo? Which is better?
Great question! I switched to Toyo because I heard that they are lighter, quieter and more comfortable on the road. After about a month they are way quieter on the road than when I had brand new BFGs. Bfg has a more aggressive tread for off-roading but I have a truck that I’m going to get a camper on and start using as our off-roading vehicle.
I’ve only used the toyos on one off road trip but so far they are able to do everything that the bfgs have been doing.
@@allyandandre Then I have one last question.:) I have been deciding to buy Subaru Forester or Crosstrek for using it as a camping car on and off aside from using it also daily. The only issue that I can not decide is whether crosstrek is too small for car camping or not? So the question I would like to ask what is the reason for getting a truck and using it as a camping vehicle alternative to crosstrek, is it because of the small capacity of the car? (Sorry for my broken English :)))
@@excalibur7747 oh no problem at all! If you have the opportunity to choose, I would choose the forester which is a little bigger and gives you more headroom to sit up when sleeping at camp. You can still do everything in a crosstrek but having a little extra room makes all the difference!
I’ve had the truck for a little over a year, but still camped in the car because we could sleep inside the car with the seats down in cold weather and wind. In the next few weeks we are going to be making a decision on a truck topper/camper that will give us a lot more space and keep us out of the elements!
