(For those who doesnt know) the interviewer is of course Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane/Starship..Frank once said ina interview that Jefferson Airplane was one of the groups that did it for the money..though he did actually record with them in 1968 for a piece called "would you like a snack? " which was never released at the time ( but is featured as a bonus track on jeffersons 'crown of creation cd and their box set )

have you ever thought why you dance in a party or club? let me tell ya....most times you dance without reason and this sir is what makes you a FOOL a dancin'fool yeah thats right...
I disagree with the comments about hte interview being "GREAT" !!! Duh ? Zappa is visibly bored to death and uneasy, and Grace seems no less bored by her own questions. Interviewing Zappa in the middle of all that noisy crowd is already a fatal error in itself....the whole thing is so 80s, and so wrong !! And there are so many great interviews with appa on you tube, I can easily rate this as the worst !!
his words destroyed the disco generation. his words destroyed the hippie generation... zappa paved the way for artists to seek out what they loved... fuck the corporate, fuck radio, and fuck mtv... he re-established the first amendment. zappa's gift to the world... say whatever the fuck you want to say... just say it artistically...
frank zappa is a fucking hack and a terirble artist. He has no good songs, he’s unfunny, he constantly acts superior and fuels the smug egos of his mindless drone fans. fuck him
Ouch! This is so freaking trainwreckish. God bless Grace Slick, I'll love her till the end, but boy she sure was not cut out to be TV celebrity... And Frank is having none of it... Gawd, compellingly embarrassing...
Yes,I agree with some of the comments...But by 1981, MTVkids were more into quick flash music (the ramones or Billy Idol) than respecting a rock icon, and very intelligent dame like grace. Alot of kids then barely knew the airplane , or the mothers!! Yowsa!
Guitarstring: "Soon they will have zoo's of smart people..." If they did, they could make quite a bit of money. Since, the people paying to see them, would be stupid. Shit, look at the average consumer, stupid is an understatement.
Lol i'm a huge fan of both these Amazing artist's love em both(: It does appear there's some friendly tension here but... I Do rember Frank saying he didn't like Airplane because they used the F-Word for shocking purposes on there Volunters album or something like that but either way i'm sure in the end they both had respect for each other. And Frank like's to poke fun at his fellow musicians to(:
Grace mentions Shooty Babbitt at the end of the interview. He played baseball for Oakland in '81 only. Also, I've seen publicity pics in '81 with FZ wearing that same outfit. Could be '81, then...?
Raap123 imo disco is only good for clubs that's it imo disco music is like dairy for your soul it doesn't vibrate that high like jazz and classical music does in general

Some serious self massage though.. I've relaxed my shunning of her lately though. Heard her and others talk about the great society airplane and her strange trip. But I also shunned her for 'We Built This City' arguably the worst song ever. Top three. And. She agreed. I welcome her back.. Frank lol get a job getta a good getta good job and be real rich.. my name is Bobby brown...
Never sold himself?? Whatever.. Strictly Commercial. And I agree he was tough. Tough enough to get into hell. Hell? He was with Warner Bros for 8 fukin years!
Love his Lou reed style responses! 1 syllable answers gets the point across!!
He was so wrong about bands not making it with no help from record companies. Thank you Napster for breaking their bank accounts!

The Show: Rockplace (11 February 1984)
Holy shit this is hilarious. I wonder why he was so short in this particular video, he wasn't usually like that.
It seems he was feeling extra douchey that day.
He was fairly funny here

Disco is SO good! 🙂

Grace Slick!
A wise man once said, "never discuss philosophy or politics in a disco environment."
Just like rockstars, Zappa didn't know any wise men.

Awwww, that was precious. Thank you.
Thanks for posting! This is a great great interview.
Michael Jackson not taking drugs?!?
Grace is fantastic, just out of place. Then again, everyone and everything is out of place next to Frank Zappa!
@eganbarry They were. FZ explained he lived with the Airplane for some time. He also invited Grace Slick on stage at the Fillmore once
hah.
hi grace!
i love the airplane.

@197Decibels It was a pretty good straw to grasp since it put us all out of pretentious,
moronic music. You wanna empty a room? Put on Frank Zappa.
The jerkoff was the epitome of pretentious.
GRACE SLICK (Great Society, Jefferson Airplane) and FRANK , BOTH WAS GREAT!
i agree.... why would that be?.. maybe cause they like each other? dunno...
I honestly thought this was an SCTV sketch at first. . .
Zappa was a hack.
Zappa is the ultimate case for the dangers of mistaking lack of talent for genius.
Damn man calm down on the comments
Why are you such a Zappa hater? Mommy didn't give you the attention you needed as a child?
did he kill your entire family in front of you or smth??? stop getting so mad at some guy making music that a lot of people happen to like
Brilliantly put, ha ha! 🙂
Frank was funny but a little negative too.

he would have, and has answered these questions he just did not feel it was appropriate for that venue
boy, NO chemistry between those two.
wonder why-? they are both so cool and articulate (and opinionated).
@eganbarry Doesn't mean he didn't like them.
I hate everyone. But I love these 2 people.
Perhaps "awkward" is the word.

Yeah- eh's a pretty cool guy. Eh wears sunglasses inside and doesn't afraid of anything.
