I seriously needed to hear this from someone: “I dont need to be reading non-fiction all the time, sometimes you are already reading non-fiction all day, because you are studying” - I often forget that my 200 pages for uni a week are non-fiction and that it’s really okay to be burned out
Totally! I hate when people judge me for reading fantasy or romance stuff that is very easy and fast to read. I know these books aren’t classics, I don’t read them because I want to learn I read them because I want to give my brain a break from reading and learning the whole day. A lot of people don’t seem to understand that it is possible to like “shadow and bone” and “anna Karenina” at the same time :)
Just a heads up for Jane Eyre: it's more broody & dramatic than cozy & melancholy. More of a Wuthering Heights vibe than a Pride and Prejudice vibe, if that helps a little.
@@just_ella17 yep, that's for sure. It's also a great book in my opinion, but I just think that if one goes in thinking it's going to be a cute and cozy read, one's going to be very disappointed ahah
@@just_ella17 There's some melancholy elements, but the eeriness/intensity of the book overrode them for me. It's a very rich text for sure. edit: wording
What about _Rebecca_ by Daphne du Maurier? I've only seen the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, but hear that they kinda changed the ending, making it more obvious that Mr. & Mrs. de Winter love each other, whereas it's left up to interpretation in the book.
I just finished Jane Eyre last week and I really enjoyed it! I'm also not a native speaker but it really wasn't one of the harder books I've read at all, the narrator uses fancy words here and there but even if you don't understand all of them, you're going to be just fine. And the autumn vibes truly were *chef's kiss*
@@julialovesgfriend I'm not a native speaker either and pride and prejudice was one of the first classics I've ever read in English and tbh I didn't really get to enjoy the book. I recently reread it, after having read four more Austen novels and a bunch of different English classics and the expierence was so much better. So I definitely do think that it is manageable and enjoyable for non-native speakers but not if you're a beginner with classics. If you want to try out Austen and maybe get a little used to her writing before going into pride and prejudice I would high key recommend Northanger Abbey. It is a lot shorter than p&p has a smaller cast of characters and is overall less complex, however still super fun and definitely a "core" Jane Austen novel.
Frankenstein is one of my all-time favs; I hope you enjoy! Also, Mary Wollstonecraft is Mary Shelley's mother! Good catch :) Piranesi does have a plot, it just takes a back burner until the middle/end. The beginning aligns us with 'Piranesi' by having us read his journals and fall in love with the House as he does. "Tender is the Flesh" is a really interesting read. I almost DNFed it because it seemed really slow and I didn't care about any of the characters, but the last line was worth the whole book. I can't wait to hear your thoughts!
Thank you for saying fall or spring, I am from Australia and never feel like I match up to seasonal content (even though I love it) but it is so nice to be acknowledged :)
Have you read coraline? It is my go to fall movie, but I read the book a couple of years ago. A very creepy childrens book with fall vibes. I recommend it ☺️🍂
I just finished Bunny not even 10min before I watched this video! So crazy. Anyhow, would recommend-it has both dark academia and supernatural / horror vibes, so great for the spooky season.
Bunny was so weird. Like I read it as a E-book and would look up from it, and it would be three in the morning and my eyes are on fire. I still cannot fully grasp exactly *what happened* in it, all I know was I was distressed after reading it.
@@Emma-sj6wp Oh yes, it was super weird (but I tend to like that sort of thing I guess). I will say if you go into it expecting more of a horror novel, that's helpful. I think if you go in just expecting just dark academia it could be quite distressing.

I'm reading Normal People by Sally Rooney. At first I thought I could vicariously know a bit of your personality from how much you liked it. But I realized it's near impossible. The book revolves around the magical understanding between Marianne and Connell that forms a time stopping bubble just for them. I'm reading Jane Eyre for the 2nd time now; it's one of my favorites. I also adored the movie Annihilation and ended up loving the book even more - another one of my faves! :D
I read "A Pho Love Story" back in February and I gave it 3 stars. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I also read it the same month as "A Taste for Love," which was so cute and I loved so much, that "A Pho Love Story" paled in comparison. The best book I read in August was "Caraval" by Stephanie Garber. I love this book and it's a new favorite. Also, "The Love Hypothesis" by Ali Hazelwood is like the cutest romance ever and a new favorite.
I think you are going to enjoy Frankenstein!!!!! I read last week and it was incredible, more incredible is to realize that Mary wrote the book when she was less then 20 years old. Somebody recommended me “Poor Things” by Alasdair Gray, which is a novel based on Frankenstein but with a more feminist and critical approach. And btw Mary Shelley was the daughter of Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin, and you can see the reflection of their literary work in Frankenstein as well!

I'm reading Crime and Punishment at the moment! I'm really enjoying it, the language is much more accessible than I originally thought.
I read Jane Eyre when I was twelve, so I think you should still find it easy even if English isn’t your first language, so don’t worry about that! (And it’s great)
Bunny is soooo good you've got to read it!
You can read Crime and Punishment during winter :) I think it fits better
I'm currently reading Frankenstein!! That edition you have is so beautiful 😍
You have inspired me to start reading again! Thank you and I love your videos!
FYI, book of the month has been around nearly 100 years. I absolutely loooooooooooved House of Leaves. It was engineered to be paced like a movie, and it definitely worked. I will definitely read it again.
I'm reading Jane Eyre for the 2nd time now; it's one of my favorites. I also adored the movie Annihilation and ended up loving the book even more - another one of my faves! :D
If you liked the movie Annihilation you have to read the book. It’s so good!!
Also, "The Love Hypothesis" by Ali Hazelwood is like the cutest romance ever and a new favorite.
i just bought the atlas six too and i'm so excited to read it!!
currently reading it and it's making me so excited!
I read The Secret History last November and I devoured it! I highly recommend it
I think you are going to enjoy Frankenstein!!!!!
I feel like you would love the movie melancholia, it really evokes that existential dread you were talking about
woah i've seen that one a really long time ago but i do remember it making an impression!
for me the annihilation book is definitely better than the movie and different too. you should really read it!
love u organised queen😎😎i always try to plan what i’ll read and end up reading the most random book on my shelf lmao
Omg that edition of the Frankenstein is so cool!?
I got real with my tbr recently too. Accepted that Malibu rising will be read next summer as summer is kinda over (even in Texas lol).
yes Mary Shelley was Wollstonecraft's daughter
Organizational content is the best kind of content 😌
Mixing classics, mistery and horror: Edgar Allan Poe! He wrote a lot of short stories, and a novel I really think u would enjoy is Gordon Pym!
