Good job Nate!, back in the day (37 years ago), that is all they had was balsa plane kits, now they have a lot of options, but now that I'm retired at 57yrs old I'm getting back into the hobby and I have purchased 4 plane's which are foam, and 1 balsa a 64'' Mustang which is last in the cue to be built because your right it will take me several months to complete, but its all very exciting and fun and I recommend the hobby to people when ever a chance a rises, B-Blessed!
When you don't have as3x and safe, you find out what kinda pilot you are. I think you should do yourself a big favor and NOT put the assist on that plane. It looked like it flew great. Imo, those crutches you rely on so much are holding you back from honing the basic skills you used them to learn. You can't say you've mastered an airplane if you're not really flying it. A few more flights and you'll have a solid handle on that thing. You gotta step out of your comfort zone, as you put it, to progress and learn. You're doing great! Thanks for all y'all do. Best wishes.
this is one of the coolest warbirds ever built... i had a 750 mm fms one that i flew and crashed many times... i saved it but it is to messed up to fly... when i first got it it flew perfect...
Well this is a beautiful plane, and I want you to buy whatever you like but if you ever plan to fly it I strongly recommend you fly at least two or three planes a lot before flying this one. 👍😁😎⚓
Setting up SAFE is so easy. Thats why I use AR630 receivers in everything now. I thought for sure you were gonna prang this thing. Its impressive that bounce didnt mess it up. I think its gonna fly better with a 6S. It was kind of floaty on 4s and the extra weight of a 6S I've watched 2 or 3 assembly videos of this plane now, and every one of them has a problem with the motor, cowl, mounts, etc. Theres something weird going on with the airframe at the factory. QC isnt catching problems.
Horizon used to make tons of these balsa PNP models about 10 years ago! My first balsa plane was an E-flite PNP Mini Ultra Stick, assembled in less than 10 minutes with no glue! My advice on smoothing out your flying is to work on mastering the basics of radio setup; dual rates, expo, flap to elevator mixing (if applicable), and throttle curve (on gas planes) can make all the difference in the world. Especially on a faster warbird, a little expo can help the plane seem less "twitchy" and fly more scale, on 3D and aerobatic planes with more available throw, dual or triple rates combined with expo is the key. With proper setup, your plane will fly better and your nerves will calm down. Keep up the great content!
AWESOME MAIDEN, Nate!! Balsa planes sound AND look great!! I think that's the most nervous I've seen you fly...you were SOOO QUIET!! THANKS SAYLORS for another AWESOMELY honest review!! 💟👍😘
I am currently building an electric version of the Sig Somethin Extra. I am about 2 months in, wings and fuse built, and ready for final sanding, wheel pants finished. I have to work out the cowl, and try to hit the c/g without adding weight. As builds go, it isn't too difficult, pieces fit well, nice plans, and instructions. Lots of small details to attend to. Things like waiting for paint and glue to dry hold me up. If you have the room, and the time, go for it.
Good job Nate definitely looks a little tail heavy if you can slide the battery about an inch forward. If not add another ounce to the nose. Also give yourself a lower elevator rate warbirds don’t like a lot of elevator authority. Anyway nice first flight. I will have mine up soon also 😉
Setup of this thing. 1: Glue everything even if using 4S 2: Balance the wings (this is a must) mine were so far out of balance. You can see this model was the same dropping the right wing. 3: 85mm CG 4: Setup and use flaperons for landing 35% 5: Fly it fast and don't slow down. 6: Only for grass airfields change wheels to 2 3/4" to stop the nose over. 7: Thank me and enjoy.
Nice maiden 👍 I can feel you I am the same way I have like 10+ foam planes and fly them no stress at all and one balsa one and it took me forever to feel at all confortable with it .
I flew balsa planes in the 90's which I built. Now I am a little scared of balsa planes till I become a better pilot. But, I know they fly better and do plan to fly some in the future. The Hanger 9 10CC Valiant is on my wish list. Electric Power.
Glad you mentioned the sound. I was thinking it had great sound considering it is electric. Especially since I've been watching vids on large scale warbirds with radial engines lately.
used to make a brass prop spinner in that style which would add nose weight for the 4s battery. IF you could find a Great Planes PT40 Balsa Kit ,only challenge would be converting to electric, as they where made for glow fuel motors .but it was a good first build .be prepared to spend 2 weeks of building time.
I'm gonna be honest I am in the hobby for the first time with the cub s2 I fly in beginner mode now ofc because its easy in windy conditions and smaller spaces I want to get something I can do tricks with but im scared to absolutely destroy it on my 1st flight so I am not sure what I should do but I mainly got it just to learn and do some cool stuff with snd just chill out I can do some cool stuff with it but nothing inverted or rolls all it really does is a loop and wing touches at least im my case in no assistance mode I cant fly it at all really so im not sure what to do anyways I love the vids love the war birds keep it up thanks for the awesome vids
Did you move your servo rods to the inner position on the servos, and the connection on the elevator flap to the hole closest to the flap? By adjusting those you can have more elevator, allowing inverted flight. Same goes for ailerons and rudder, allowing more movement and more stunts. Watch out with the ailerons, they rarely need more movement for beginners. I have a mini mustang on wich I put the rods on maximum and it does everything except hovering.
I like it, the size is right for transport. Wow very sensitive elevator maybe a little less throws or move the c/g little forward. good landing nothing broken. I have put together three balsa kits and I'm working on my fourth I know what your talking about the plastic engine insert to composite cowl believe it or not use Loctite shoe glue its sticky and it sets fast after a couple hours it dries clear.
My first 2 planes were balsa and they flew great I really like this balsa PNP WarBird it's not exactly scale but still looks awesome and looks to fly great also 🔥👍
My 12 year old daughter and I just built a Seagull P-47D from Gator-RC Little Bunny and we put a 4 blade prop on that but seems to be a bit more vibration
gosh darnit! i havent flown in years need to get back into it! but I learned from building a trainer from the KIT PT 40 put .46x os engine and while building took about 2 months i was playing and learning on virtual flight on the PC ! great way to start and really learn about the hobby! and i got a dx9 spektrum, they said but it once a good one it will last for ever i got it right when it came out.

RC Saylors, how would you rate this plane with regards to experience needed to fly? It looked like you were having a tough time negotiating the pattern. I'm a novice pilot hoping to be not scared every time I fly .. I like the look of the War-Bird. Thanks for your channel..I enjoy the content.
Warbirds can be super easy to fly. That being said, taildragger warbirds are going to be the most difficult models you will ever find. This is because landing these is different for every plane. If you aren't comfortable trying it and maybe failing, I'd recommend a tricycle gear warbird or a taildragger high-wing plane that is not just a beginner plane (such as the Skynetic Bison from MotionRC). That all said, it is never a bad idea to start taildragger warbirds on RealFlight or with foam warbirds.
I strongly agree with everything you said 👍 I do think I got it trimmed up well toward the end of the flight though and if I had a second battery charged I would have gladly taken it up again 😁😎⚓
I don't have a balsa plane not really interested I do have the Arrows P-47 Thunderbolt tho love old warbirds, great flying Nate & great footage Abby God bless ⚓😉👍🛩
very nice I am 100% a mature retired 62 years old...I had my 1 st plane balsa Gas 52" span Let's just say We took it home in 2 Walmarts bags Now Spectrum is safe only for me.lol, The time omg I still wanna build a scratch kit. Even if I just look at it.
You definitely need to learn to fly 100% without as3x. Definitely with balsa, I learned not to use as3x or safe with any of my gas balsa planes. Your skill level and confidence will go up tremendously.
I have a great planes stinger 2 that’s a balsa build and it was 30 bucks off eBay took me about 2 months to get it airborne and it flies great ya should find one but the plane is discontinued which that sucks a lil, love watching you fly have a great day
Looks like the plane flies very well. With those large "aerobatic" ailerons, put the ailerons on separate channels and set up a bit of flaperon (with elevator mix if needed) and the landings should be slower and easier. Have no doubt, the balsa fliers will be buying this plane as well.
Congrats I know exactly that feeling nerves are bad could you do something next time to make me smile please say nerves are bad mmmk nerves are bad. Please!! Love your Ch still guys you cheer me up every time. Mark from England 👍🍀
I like the size it's easier to transport, I own some balsa planes they fly great but yeah definitely something that needs all your attention, no one likes picking up splinters My question which Hanger 9 model do you like best ? the 47 or the 19.
If I were you keep it as 4s for now. As you get better and comfortable flying, then make the move to upgrade it for 6s flying. Good sounding model again and over all good video. 👍😇❤️
TheRCSailors - Hey Nate, I have an AR636A reciever that came out of the Eflite P47 Razorback that I no longer have. Do you think I could put this reciever in the Hanger 9 P47 Thunderbolt without any issues if I dont change the gains or any re-programming on the AR636A reciever?
@@TheRcSaylors yeah but the damn thing is way twitchy roll rate. Thus the reason why you were so nervous. You would have to dual rate down the ailerons. If you don’t want to modify it I would suggest dialing in the radio flaparons. Gotta slow that thing down for both take off and landings otherwise it looks too sketchy to fly when you’re looking to have a relaxing day of flying. You had me nervous, your lady nervous, you nervous, AMA nervous Lol.
If it had optional floats it would be perfect 😅 I know it might look strange but floats are just so cool I hope someone makes floats for a jet now that would be original🤣
@@DistinctOgre my best friend has the F16 falcon70mm from eflite but he thinks I'm insane, and I have no job or money to buy one myself. I made floats for my mini mustang p51d but it can only land because it's underpowered lol
It comes with those decals already installed, sadly. We did add some of the other decals, but not the ones you mentioned. We have been guilty of installing stars on the wrong wing though, but not this time! 👍😁😎⚓
So you are human after all. 😊 That definitely was a white knuckler. What would make me nervous is knowing how a crash that a foam plane would survive could leave a balsa model in two dozen pieces.
Hi Nate and Abby I just got my hanger 9 funscale but i'm afraid of all these fast landings im seeing on this bird do you think i could cut the wing and add flaps everybody seems to have trouble bringing this bird in safely?
Thanks for another great review! You sound like me when I'm flying anything! LOL. I don't know if you do Banana Hobby but I'd love to see a review on the Balsa AeroPlus Titanium Trainer. It looks great for the price! But how does it fly??
Seems like every rc-er weather plane, car, boat etc have way to much throw in them and too twitchy. Switch holes in servo, horn, or use dual rates/expo. That thing should fly like a trainer.
Yeah that could definitely help smooth this up a little. I never fly with any rates or expo though, so I wanted to be fair with this airplane too. 👍😁😎⚓
@@TheRcSaylors I’m the same with all my foamies, fly with 100% rates but my bigger balsa planes need rates and expo dialled in to get the most out of the flight characteristics. It’s not a foamie so don’t treat it like one there is more fine tuning to do here!
Also does look like it could be slightly tail heavy so I would try moving forward slightly to see what happens. Should continue to fly level after cutting the throttle
RTF - Ready To Fly - Comes with everything you need to fly it. Most of the time with a battery and all, but always good to double check. BNF - Bind and Fly - Needs battery and transmitter. Benefit of this is saving money in the long run by owning one or two battery types that work on multiple RCs as well as one universal radio. PNP - Plug and Play - needs all of the above as well as your own receiver in case you fly on a different brand. ARF - Almost Ready to Fly - A little misleading honestly. Needs work putting it together. Usually the plane is mostly built, but needs electronics. Kit - comes in hundreds of pieces and needs built and all components! I hope this helps sort things out. If you aren't a Patroeon supporter already, please consider supporting us if you found this comment helpful or enjoy our UA-cam videos!! If you already support us, we Thank You very much! -Nate 👍😁⚓
i get the nerves...they can really make flying soooo much harder... i gave up flying for last few years since my eyes were so bad... i had coke bottle glasses then contacts for many years...but i developed cataracts and was crashing sooo much more...a few months ago i had surgery and i see pretty darn good now...i will be flying again very soon..
I'm going to definitely do that on this radio. I've NEVER added expo to Any of My planes, so wanted this maiden to come out on a level playing field but I think expo will help this one out a lot! 👍😁😎⚓

Looks like the plane flies very well. With those large "aerobatic" ailerons, put the ailerons on separate channels and set up a bit of flaperon (with elevator mix if needed) and the landings should be slower and easier. Have no doubt, the balsa fliers will be buying this plane as well.
I can understand the nerves, I'm putting together a very old 104inch tiger moth. I'm not sure I'll ever have enough guts to fly it
Congrats I know exactly that feeling nerves are bad could you do something next time to make me smile please say nerves are bad mmmk nerves are bad. Please!! Love your Ch still guys you cheer me up every time. Mark from England 👍🍀
I like the size it's easier to transport, I own some balsa planes they fly great but yeah definitely something that needs all your attention, no one likes picking up splinters
My question which Hanger 9 model do you like best ? the 47 or the 19.
If I were you keep it as 4s for now. As you get better and comfortable flying, then make the move to upgrade it for 6s flying.
Good sounding model again and over all good video. 👍😇❤️
Hay can you guys do a Huina 1593 excavator review. Because I love your guises videos are awesome👍🏼
Nice job
Nate, Full Up elevator during taxi'in bro
On a tail dragger absolutely! 😬👍⚓
Sticks to touchy
MR BOUNCE REVERSE ROLL NERVOUS NELLY HAPPY DAYS 😊 AHEAD
Needs flaps.
The ailerons are super Duper huge. Mod it 1/4 ailerons 3/4 Flats.
I'm honestly not sure why it doesn't have flaps. Strange. But it looks great and flies well once it's all tuned in 👍😁😎⚓
@@TheRcSaylors yeah but the damn thing is way twitchy roll rate.
Mantap pak
Made me clinch 3 times lol
Good work tell Abby I said hello
If it had optional floats it would be perfect 😅
I know it might look strange but floats are just so cool
I hope someone makes floats for a jet now that would be original🤣
Why don't you? What kinda jets you fly?
@@DistinctOgre my best friend has the F16 falcon70mm from eflite but he thinks I'm insane, and I have no job or money to buy one myself.
I made floats for my mini mustang p51d but it can only land because it's underpowered lol
I can't believe they put the star and bar insignia on the WRONG wing!!!
It comes with those decals already installed, sadly. We did add some of the other decals, but not the ones you mentioned. We have been guilty of installing stars on the wrong wing though, but not this time! 👍😁😎⚓
@@TheRcSaylors Sorry, I meant the "they" to refer to Horizon, not RCSaylors...
So you are human after all. 😊 That definitely was a white knuckler. What would make me nervous is knowing how a crash that a foam plane would survive could leave a balsa model in two dozen pieces.
Only two dozen 🤔 that sounds like a good crash.😄😏.
@@stanbrewer6079 LOL Now that's funny. 👍
Hey Nate, what reciever did you install in it?
Hi Nate and Abby I just got my hanger 9 funscale but i'm afraid of all these fast landings im seeing on this bird do you think i could cut the wing and add flaps everybody seems to have trouble bringing this bird in safely?
It kinda looks like the eachine p 47 mini one just a little bit similar
Leave it alone Nate. It flies scale.
Just wondering here, could a 4 blade prop go on this to make it look more scale?
I honestly wouldn't see why not, especially on 4S 👍😁😎⚓
@@TheRcSaylors I just ordered it and since I did will you get the credit?
Its flying great with 4s why add the extra weight with 6s.
Hey Nate it sounds terrible but it’s great to see you out on the edge and scared like the rest of us 🤣
Go 6s, it looks to me that it is a bit tail heavy, 6s would add some nose weight, also Expo on the elevator will help
100% agreed. It might fly on 4S, but not super well. Needs the extra weight and power IMO 👍😁😎⚓
Thanks for another great review! You sound like me when I'm flying anything! LOL. I don't know if you do Banana Hobby but I'd love to see a review on the Balsa AeroPlus Titanium Trainer. It looks great for the price! But how does it fly??
That's funny nerves with balsa. I've never flown anything that I didn't stick build. Never flown foam. But can understand. All maden's are nervy
Seems like every rc-er weather plane, car, boat etc have way to much throw in them and too twitchy. Switch holes in servo, horn, or use dual rates/expo. That thing should fly like a trainer.
Looks to me like you could do with some mid and lower rates and some more expo. Should be flying better than any foam equivalent
WHAT IS A PNP WOULD YOU PLEASE X PLAN WHAT ARE ALL THESE RTF ARF AND THE OTHERS THANK YOU !!!! LOVE YOU GUYS VIDEOS
-Nate 👍😁⚓
Banging the elevator...
Got her back in one piece! And trimmed up well toward the end of my flight! True experiences shared here, even if it wasn't pretty 👍😁😎⚓
At $500 bucks I can understand being nervous.
Hello
Being a stickler of details, the upper wing insignia is on the wrong wing ,so is the lower wing.
It actually comes with that decal already on 🤷♂️
@@TheRcSaylors oops! Whoever that was.
i get the nerves...they can really make flying soooo much harder... i gave up flying for last few years since my eyes were so bad... i had coke bottle glasses then contacts for many years...but i developed cataracts and was crashing sooo much more...a few months ago i had surgery and i see pretty darn good now...i will be flying again very soon..
Nate, Not sure wot TX u running here, but put some expo in the TX to help u out here Mate... 30% ? ... and chill out man! LOL
I'm going to definitely do that on this radio. I've NEVER added expo to Any of My planes, so wanted this maiden to come out on a level playing field but I think expo will help this one out a lot! 👍😁😎⚓
Please go 6s 🙏
But I bet your relieved to get that baby down safe a Nate 🤔😅
Are you going to do a review on the flight line F4U?
Flight Line is basically Motion, right?
TheRcSaylors yes I think so.
