They really missed out on naming JP 93 setting like "Wrangler". It sounds cool, his alt mode could have been a Jeep Wrangler, also he is a T-Rex wrangler.

I will stand up for "Tyrannocon Rex" as a name. It's obvious, but it at least is a cool, powerful combination of syllables. The same cannot be said of "JP93"
I would have much rather took a stupid name like "Ranger" or "Explorer" than have something that essentially sounds like some 90s Japanese sports car.
I like to think jp93 means he’s the 93rd Jonathan Paul.

Except that the legs might need to be remolded a bit. If I remember from Armada Red Alert, the underside of the back of the vehicle mode is facing the front of the figure, which is flipped around on JP93 at 13:58. Or the very back end of the vehicle mode is normally near Red Alert's shins, whereas the very back end of JP93's vehicle mode is at the knee area.
It's wild how they didn't used the SS Jeep Bumblebee for this collaborative. But that Ford Explorer does look gorgeous, along with the rex.
Loving the very-rare Jurassic Park doot-de-doo. Unless they do more, it'll have the honour of being a one-of-one doot-de-doo.

I was thinking the same thing. They started with the Jeep, planning to redeco Hound maybe even make an Earthrise version to fit with JP Jeep. Covid happens, things get pushed back. Jeep takes its license back. And they go to Ford. Ford hearing Transformers and movie in the same sentence jump at the chance. So they have to rush job a Ford Explorer from scratch. They run with a Jazz/Prowl heavy redeco. but now they are months behind and probably a bit overbudget so they mark it up a tad. They expect that if the crossover fans (that overlap on the venn diagram of JP fans and Transformer fans) don't pick it up, keeping the packaging like the one Mattel is using on the non transforming set will finish the job.
The only thing crazier than this ride is the Velocicoaster.
This all makes a lot of sense actually. And that last point rings surprisingly true. I’ve only ever seen that Mattel box in the wild and I’ve always thought it was this crossover set for a few minutes before realizing
Got it for like 40% off because of a sale. Definitely agree with the over price, wouldn't have bought it full price. Other than that love it
Also, the name I use for jeep boy is Muddune, as a reference to his hat and gun
i mean. one of the most beloved characters with some of the best character development in all of transformers is literally named "dino bot"
I may be alone here, but I'm GUTTED they didn't repaint Dinobot into a figure of Blue. I have no interest in the BW figures but I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

As much as I can see the objective arguments for the issues they have... I really love this pair. Worth the discounted price, for sure. I feel like the moment I gave them not-shit names in my head, they really came out of the amber and became characters instead of products.
(in case of curiosity: JP93 is Wildwheel, stealing the name and not much else from the Cyberverse design (he's more of a Steve Irwin analogue (RIP)), and Tyrablahblah is Smasher; somewhere between a G1 dinobot and Crasher/Fracture for the colors and big stompy boots)
Not wanting to be that guy, but the Steve Irwin homage is named Meteorfire.
it really does feel like hasbro didn't learn from xpanse with this. they think that brand recognition is enough to sell it despite the hefty price and then it ends up being reduced in price a lot because who would have guessed that people like getting value for money
My top 3 movie Franchises are Transformers, Godzilla, and Jurassic Park so when I originally heard that this was coming out I was so hyped and I think it lived up to it

If they did a siege hound retool for one of those grey Jp jeeps, I think they could've killed two birds with one stone. Still have a cool crossover pack, and have a pretooling for an earth style hound for legacy. Wouldn't be the exact same car but hey, he'd still be a jeep

That monthly megatron interlude was PERFECT, I was so curious how you felt about Megatron himself knowing you werent a fan of the beastwars kingdom figures but you honestly nailed how **I** feel about that figure in a minute long bit
3:34 maybe its to encourages the buyer to actually name the two themselves? It’ll definitely be the case for stop motion UA-camrs.
One thing I don’t think I’ve seen people mention is the box for this, and how the toys are packed, is suspiciously similar to an actual Jurassic Park set of a normal T-Rex and JP Ford Explorer.
On the one hand, I kind of love the Robots in Disguise aspect of it, how you kind of have to look close to see whether it really is a Transformers or not. But at the same time, it also does feel kind of rushed. Like just “let’s do that again, but now it’s robots”
The surprise Megamonthly moment made my smile spread.

Love the missing tooth homage to Sue, the animatronic, but it’s improperly placed in the center, though it’s on the right jaw.
Honestly a simple repaint and remould of siege hound would have been a better fit for jp93.
I feel like the tyrannosaurus-man-door-hand-hook-car-door look is so uniquely megatron that Tyrannocon cant really get away with it without the stupid of it coming back and hitting you in the back of the head
Outstanding review, as always! Thank you! Yeah, I love dinosaurs, I love "Jurassic Park," I love Transformers . . . but I just could NOT pull the trigger on this set, especially at that price. All the Crossovers seem to have ridiculous price inflations. And, yeah, licensing fees, I get it. But there comes a point where I simply can't justify that lack of value for money.

Was wondering what you have been working on since you have been quiet since Legacy Skywarp review.
IMO JP93's name meaning year when JP film came, 1993 which is pretty cleave reference for fans to notice. I'm bit conflicted with Tyrannocon Rex been Decepticon as Rexy (T-Rex from JP film and cameo/poster girl in Jurassic World along Blue) as Rexy is more of anti-hero.
I admit that if Hasbro would have reworked Siege Hound in JP jeep's red/gray deco, that would have been cool idea.
Having watched Thew for 5 years since I was 13, it feels deeply wrong in my brain that I could see over his head in a crowd
Glad you also noticed the Hodge podge head that Tyrannocon had. I like it. I have her as Grimlocks Little Sister. She often rides on SS 86 Grimlocks shoulders.

I loved every second of the tiny Monthly Megaton in the middle of this episode

Another disdainful hint at it being a rush-job thrown out the door is that JP93 is the first Deluxe figure in YEARS, even DECADES, to have ball-jointed elbows. And I'm sure that's just because they knew a complete lack of swivel would have gotten an even WORSE reaction from the crowd. At least the price is down to what it's actually arguably worth.

Seeing the Darth Vader Transformer unlocked a core memory. I had him, Anakin. and a clone gunship transformer and they were so much fun. I had Vader beating Megatron because not only did he have a robot mode but the force as well so I assumed like countering Han Solo's blaster Vader could just wave away a fusion cannon blast.
I've now seen a couple of references to Thew in Toy Galaxy videos and references to Toy Galaxy in Mr Sunday Movies videos. I feel like Thew needs to reference Mr Sunday Movies to make the circle complete.
I love how clever Hasbro designers were with calling the Autobot JP93, which stands for Jurassic Park '93. The year the movie came out.
Though Tyrannocon Rex is not doing any favors with that name. Rexytron or Roberta Wrecks sound way better.
I actually really like JP93's feet because I really miss that style of "it's just part of a car" robot design and I love seeing it pop up.

Re: the names, it's possible that Hasbro wants us to see JP93 as "well it's a designation, like B-127 was, hur hur hur" but it's still so cheekily contrived I just... * gags *
And "Tyrann*i*con" had been used before in TF, but adding "Rex" on the end scuffs what small amount of coolness it may have.
Edit: "Rexecution" is a 1000% better name.

My movie theory with regards to JP, about the T-rex not being "blind". She isnt attacking humans, she attacks the cars in an attempt to save humans. She likes humans. Sure, she killed lawyer guy, thats just her trying to play, but being too big and rough and accidently killing him.

JP’s coloring reminds me of Generation 2. Which kinda makes sense considering Gen 2 was around during that time and had a very neon style. As for a rename, I have three good ones: Slackoff, Hillclimber, and Safaritron
Managed to pick these two up for only £40 which is a absolute steal.
A pretty good leader and an alright Deluxe for the price of a Voyager is fantastic.
I feel Thad had entirely too much fun with this review and it most definitely shows. The alternate names for JP93 absolutely killed me. If anything I think this would be an okay novelty buy at deep discount as well as how much I need a legit BWs Megatron in my collection. The Kingdom variation is spot on even with the obvious flaws of it being a transforming toy. Side note/ This review makes me excited for the primordial beatdown that is sure to be the Crossover Megatron/Hiss Tank review
I feel like this concept could spawn some good fan fiction, like, idk, robots created to act as both entertainment, transport, and security, soon learning how grow past their programming, TCR learning to evolve past her instincts and JP93 realizing that he shouldn’t blindly follow orders.

I wish we could get Transformers Cybertron Megatron recolored as a Bat Mobile for a Transformers/Batman crossover. I could finally get my hands on a mold of that figure...
Imagine an RID 2001 Megatron as the Batmobile since that already has the wings and gargoyle/bat mode for it to boot! Sure, it has a ton of other unrelated modes, but they can just do what they did with the Hasbro release of the character and not print the other modes in the instructions.
in my brain the Rex character is called Tyrannicus Imperius, and also is more like the Prime Flavor of Predacon, made for baddies, nominally antagonist, but doing her own thing.
Honestly my main gripe is that they didn't take this crossover and run with it, the Jeeps, the Raptors, Dilophosaurus, Spinosaurus, that silly grabber thing from the lost world, those silly Gyrosphers from jurassic world, the indominus, the indoraptor, there penty more JP toys to make, and then you can re-shell them into TF originals to keep selling off the engineering.
For me, the flaps on her arm fold much, much easier than on my Megatron. Overall I had a much better experience transforming Tyrannocon Rex, everything worked as it should right away. The first time I transformed my Megatron I had to fight for an ENTIRE HOUR to undo the waist clip without breaking it.
Also, JP93's hands do fold out fully straight, they click in place very securely.

Imo as someone who got into the transformers thing recently, i think T-Rex Megatron is one of the most ridiculous and cool transformers. My first reaction to that thing when i found out it exists was "HOLY SHIT HOW DO I GET THAT" and then glee when i found out kingdom was releasing a new one. Grimlock just didnt have the nostalgia to carry its 80s goofyness.
I do think the mold works better as a massive brute as opposed to a leader of the Predacons though.
In a hobby where we accepted the name "Dinobot" I feel a little hypocritical ragging on the name "Tyrranocon Rex".
That being said, not having the robot mode on the box and having *just a footprint* is very telling of how conceited they were.

The hasbro designers is so creative with thier ideas,and with that,we can even get a crossover with thew(maybe a repaint and retool of cybervese macadam ? ) ,and the re-use of kingdom megatron in this set was really genius,i do wish for more movie crossovers( maybe with morbius ? )
I'd buy a Transformers Thew toy in a heartbeat, but I betcha it'd be a Botcon repaint or something, hard to nab and thrilling to have
I do really like that JP-93's blaster is a somewhat faithful Franchi SPAS-12 considering how the movie helped popularize the 'futuristic' design of the shotgun
Personally I'd have gone with Rex-E and Wayfinder for Tyrannocon and JP-93's names, respectively.

Why do I get the distinct feeling THIS is why Kingdom went with the realistic beast modes. The Kingdom t-rex mode IS the Jurassic Park t-rex. Megatron was, sadly, a pretool

Really weird that Tyrannocon is the Decepticon of the set, especially since they made the robot mode red and black. Like, a red and black T-Rex doesn’t read Decepticon to me… that’s a Dinobot
I do think the tram SUV is more iconic for Jurassic Park than the jeep, but yeah the jeep might've made more sense in the match-up. They could've had that figure also work as a new Hound, too. Although earth-mode Hound is so far nowhere to be seen so maybe there's a licensing issue holding things back.

Was so hoping for the Jeep as the deluxe autobot ever since the rumor came up. THAT’s the only hero car of the movie (hell even the entire franchise), not the automated trolleys that are the Explorers. It would also help scratch that Detritus itch. Oh well…
So his name is JP93, BUT he represents Car #04 the one that was wrecked, BUT there's already a cardboard version of the wrecked one in the packaging.

I feel it is a missed opportunity that the Trex didn't become Robo Hammond and the SUV didn't become Cyber Grant.

I actually like this set. Tyrannocon's detailed altmode and somewhat less splashy bot mode works for me. JP93 is fun too, bar the feet.
