The reason why there is a 4 Nations Cup is because the NHL only wants to use NHL players and make all the money for the NHL (Canada - 295), (USA - 207), (Sweden - 64) and (Finland - 36). Russia (41) will be there once they stop trying to take over the world. This is french canadian media specific, but im still curious about other/outside perspectives. One of our biggest subject will be the complete decline in talent development in the province of Quebec in the last two decades. 20 years ago, a hypothetical Quebecer only team would of been extremely competitive, vs the rest of Canada, USA, Russia or Sweden, especially because of the goaltending. Nowadays ? Does any player outside of the somehow still playing Fleury worth any beginning of a consideration for the Hall of Fame ?
Id like to see the nhl/nhlpa allow buyouts without cap penalties. It hinders the NHL from being able to ice the best possible product, and penalizes fans for GM made decisions. Calder Race and breakout stars. NHL is ripe for new blood this year. Huge draft year. Lots of call ups and entry level contracts. Celebrini, Smith, Parekh, Michkov, Stankoven, Lekkhermaki etc. Going to be a cuththroat year for Rookies. Almost feels like a changing of the guard.
A World Cup of Hockey where lower level nations compete to qualify for it would be cool, but at the end of the day there are only a few elite hockey countries, compared to the futbol which has Spain, Germany, France, Argentina, England, Italy, Croatia, Brazil, Uruguay, Portugal, Netherlands, etc. 4 Nations Cup will be cool to see because we haven't seen any best on best in ages. What you describe as "true World Cup of hockey" is World championship.
No it isn't. World championship doesn't have a good portion of the best players from the league as they're still in the playoffs.
@RJM1972 No, it's not. It's more "World" than World Cup could ever be. Doubt the NHL will ever care of teams like Koreas or Turkmemistan.
@@Marixa1979 Yes but system is basically just like that, with even the weakest teams got chance to qualify through lower tier tournaments. It's the NHL that is outlier that doesn't really care. If they did, Worlds would propadly be held in some different date. Whole tournament developed during a century with NHL's indifference playing a role.
Ive been hearing that nhl will soon be coming to Milwaukee like reloactiong or expansion
Fighting can still hang in there, but I think we are one serious injury or ugly incident on the ice from it seriously being in danger of going away
I think when fighting/enforcement increases, stick work decreases & vice versa.
@@robkorsch3933I don’t disagree, but nowadays everything becomes so reactionary, I’m not sure the NHL could stand up to the scrutiny if someone really got hurt badly
@@spencer2365The topic needs to be looked at more broadly. The McDavid double cross-check in the Canuck series is a good example. If the Oilers had an enforcer like in previous years, would a play like that take place? Stick work can cause more serious injuries than fights.
THG gotta mediate between the NHLPA and league owners
I want pure international hockey, not this NHL World Cup nonsense. I enjoy seeing players from non-NHL leagues play and keep up.
Without Kucherov, the Lightning would have been in the running for Celebrini last season. It’s absolutely mind blowing to pick anyone but Kucherov for hart and Ted Lindsay but it’s for obvious reasons people don’t like to hear
Just stop. MacKinnon won it fairly and by a huge margin, both Peers and Critics agreed i.e. Hart and Lindsay
@@TheChief88 The Ted Lindsay was a toss-up, but the Hart should have definitely gone to Kucherov. They only gave it to Mack because he hasn’t won one yet. Seems like the Hart trophy has lost its original meaning and is just a popularity contest these days.
Depends what you mean by in the running for Celebrini. Tampa finished with 51 more points in the standings than the Sharks. I don't think any player has ever contributed anywhere close to 25.5 wins. If you mean in the bottom 11 then sure, it's possible he got them 7 wins.
@@alu.304 if these trophies are voted for by journalists and peers, then the awards are meaningless. it’s not an objective award, they just pick whoever they like more, not who they actually think should win.
@@rly-hq6wn I guess you have zero comprehension of what "Peers" refers to in this sense.
I’d be excited if it were 6 nations tbh
So Czechia and Slovakia/Switzerland? (Russia is persona non grata rn so it's a non starter)
@@neeltheother2342 of course Russia! It’s a professional NOT international tournament. Without the Russians and Czechs the “tournament” is a sideshow.
Probably better than an all-star game, but still a huge missed opportunity.
@@joshpadraig I'm choosing to view it as a glass half full way in that it will be so much better than an all star game. And there is actually going to be some fun speculation on rosters leading up to it.

This is how counting works.
lets go! good video shann
People always forget to check their biases when it comes to officiating
How about the 2 different sets of rules between reg season and layoffs?
thanks! best video so far for me :)
One word...
Michkov.
Nuff said.
Go Flyers.
A true World Cup of hockey would have Russia in it also
True World Cup is World championship in the first place. Not tournament held exclusively in N. America. Should have kept Canada Cup brand. NHL ruined branding of international tournaments. For non hockey fans World Cup gets confused with Worlds and Olympics are confusing in being either one of best tournaments ever or tournament of less significance than Worlds, dependening on year.
Only once Poutine goes.
11:24 scoring drops but winning increases in the late 20s
CBA negotiations always get done due to pressure. When their is no pressure nothing happens so don't expect it to get done early.
Kuch not getting the hart was wrong.
4 nations cup just seems like allstar games minus the skills competition
Charging is rarely called anymore and happens on almost every hard check. Not a complaint, just an observation.
Also the running into the Goalie is out of control and rarely penalized.
Only 82 days left until hockey!
I still have a hard time understanding why the NHLPA would agree to the escrow
Feel like the 4 nations cup should be a 6 nations cup so we would get Czechia and then maybe invite another country?
i think Ovi goal chase should be 1
yeah if you're a capitals fan
11. Mitch Marner
Why not have helmet cams for the referees? I mean, they're not omniscient, and sometimes, they really won't see something that looks obvious up in the nosebleeds.
How was the tv attendance for the SCF series?
discussion of starting Canadian hockey league?
I’m not stoked about the 4 nations cup either.
So what drug have you been taking that makes you think Utah will improve that roster by 20pts in that conference?
I hope they tinker with the offside review rule. Idk how they could change it, that’s why I don’t make the big bucks…but this review for a player that was an eyelash offside 20 seconds before the goal was scored thing is getting a little ridiculous . I want everything to be right but that’s not the spirit of the rule and it often times has nothing to do with the play. It’s starting to feel like the NFL where any time something cool happens, you’re looking through your fingers for a flag. Again, idk how they fix it or change it, but it’s getting a little out there
If the CBA goes to a lockout and we miss a season of McDavid, Bedard, Makar, Matthews, MacKinnon, Draisaitl's careers (maybe even Crosby's final year) Bettman should not only be fired, he should be drawn and quartered.
Crosby
@@patbromwell8701Crosby is from Nova Scotia, not Quebec
It’s time for NHL hockey in Milwaukee.
Is there really the market there? Wisconsin has teams in all the other 3 major sports.
Growing Metro region. Packers draw nationally. Maybe they can play in Madison on occasion as well.
Id like to see the nhl/nhlpa allow buyouts without cap penalties. It hinders the NHL from being able to ice the best possible product, and penalizes fans for GM made decisions. Look at all of the long term deals signed this free agency, how many gms last 7-8 years, they can make deals that cripple orginizations, the players, the fans and the league from being the best product possible. Mr bettman, tear down this wall.
do video on escrow?
Storylines: Injuries and point streaks!
If there’s a labor stoppage there would be a strike not a lockout the owners are happier than ever
The 4-Nations Cup is just to replace the NHL All-Star game. That's why it is only open to NHL players. It is like Rendez-vous '87, not a Canada Cup or the Olympics. I think it will be cool. Cooler than an All-Star game anyway.
When expansion does happen, is shannon going to commission a new puck board for power rankings?
There is a blank spot on his pick board. Maybe he can put an insert into that blank spot.
That is a medical release of a Doctor
Calder Race and breakout stars. NHL is ripe for new blood this year. Huge draft year. Lots of call ups and entry level contracts. Celebrini, Smith, Parekh, Michkov, Stankoven, Lekkhermaki etc. Going to be a cuththroat year for Rookies. Almost feels like a changing of the guard.
Nothing about Fanatics? Might end up being a mute point this year given they are using Adidas factories until 25-26.
I think 9 out of 10 of your points won't even be looked at.
Patrik Laine redemption arc!
Maybe the Ducks trying to make the playoffs this coming season
Officiating was aweful
A World Cup of Hockey where lower level nations compete to qualify for it would be cool, but at the end of the day there are only a few elite hockey countries, compared to the futbol which has Spain, Germany, France, Argentina, England, Italy, Croatia, Brazil, Uruguay, Portugal, Netherlands, etc. 4 Nations Cup will be cool to see because we haven't seen any best on best in ages. And sounds like the rosters will be stacked. Q. Hughes, Fox, and McAvoy vs Hedman, Karlsson, and Forsling? Yes please. Barkov, Aho, and Rantanen vs Crosby, McDavid, and MacKinnon? Awesome.
does expansion revenue help raise salary cap?
#4: Rempe
If Rempe hones his skill on the ice and not in the ring he could become one of my favorite players. I like fighting, but not dangerous hits (the Trouba Flying Elbow Express)
I for one, thoroughly enjoyed the Rangers vs. Devils line brawl 😊
#4: Rempe being scratched for the 50th consecutive game before being sent down
@@sharkhaos_probablyideally he’s good at both
They absolutely should not expand.
here here, expanding past 32 is idiotic.
You have teams, half a dozen who are perennial crap - never make the playoffs for 8, 10+ yrs (and don't win a Cup or even get to a finals for 30 yrs). With expansion it's going to be more crappy teams - because we all know the same teams win thru out a given decade (Det, NJ, Pit, & more recently LAk, Tam. Forget expansiom
The Canada no Stanley Cup drought is perplexing 😮
its pretty simple... 7 canadian teams... 25 american teams.. thats just math
I just hope it ends soon because I hate seeing the idiotic conspiracy theories.
It’s just the New York Rangers x7, really. Partway through a proper rebuild, someone decides to cheat a little bit on the timeline, which results in the team institutionalizing a roster flaw that cannot be corrected without blowing up the roster. Short of blind luck, the Leafs cannot fix their top-3 defenseman shortage, the Oilers cannot fix their goaltending problems, and the Canucks can’t get a good second pairing.
