Great tutorial on how to edit frame color with wax & stain. I have a large art piece with a very gold traditional frame. I have been "thinking" about toning down frame color for about 5 years. I cant wait to buy the supplies & get started.
Completely dry. You can dust it with a Swifter or cloth. I did a lamp, a mirror...several different furniture things and it ends up drying just like paint. I've never tried wiping it with a damp cloth though...I totally might just to see what happens - I can always add more Rub N Buff if I mess it up at all!!
@@house9850 I just wiped the lamp that I used Silver Leaf Rub N Buff on with a damp cloth and nothing happened. So I guess you can wipe it down with a damp cloth if needed! I just learned something!
I've never tried, but both are wax based products, so you can use them together. There is an ebony Rub 'n Buff...I would just caution to apply it very lightly. It has such a rich pigment. I do like this idea and I'm already thinking of projects - thanks for the awesome comment!
@@HomeCulture for sure! I have a "old gilded blackish patina brass" look in my home and im re-doing a triple oval mirror. Ive already spray painted with a brass metallic spray paint, but I wasn't pleased with the result and wanted something with more depth without having to redo everything. Would the wax go over spray paint well?
@@Tmoney6868 That should work nicely. Applying stain even over paint can give that antique look. I would start on a part that you can't see when the frame is hanging, to know how much it how little too apply.
Try using your finger with a glove on. And rub on a very little amount at a time. Or you can also try a small soft cloth, just rub back and forth. It's not a fast process like painting. You have to take your time.

Always such good ideas! Frame looks good.
Thank you! It was a bit of guessing and lots of hoping that it would work out!!! XO
Looks great! Another good video!
Thank you so much! Thanks for encouragement!
does that wax completely dry? I thinking about doing this for a deco framed Samsung "the frame" TV. Its way too gold.

can you use the gilding wax and then use a black rub n/ buff on top to achieve a patina look?

@@marisamele5972 Rub 'n Buff is perfect over spray paint, I've done it several times. Go for it!
I’m thinking about using some dark brown stain to antique my frame.
