I’ve got this, and don’t get jaundice though I had it as a baby, but I suffer with extreme fatigue and random stomach pains and have trouble retaining iron. My GP said no treatment required. Then I’ve been investigating my health because I’m sick of being depleted all the time, and was referred to a naturopath, and I forgot to say I had this, and she is sitting there listening to my symptoms and kept saying sound like we need to investigate your liver and gallbladder and then I remembered to mention that I had Gilbert’s and she was like Omg, you are presenting like a typical Gilbert’s patient! I was so relieved that someone actually realised that it could be what’s causing my problems. Going through a deeper investigation now to rule anything else out. But yeah it’s a thing and people actually are getting help for it
@@katebridges6214same here! I just had blood tests done and my bilirubin was high (1.6) but everything else looked good. I am about to have an ultrasound done for lower abdominal pain that I can’t pinpoint. I also have always dealt with low iron issues. I wonder why nobody has ever brought this up to me.
Just found out today....had yellow hands and feet for 4 years and developed a rash on lymphnodes when diet was poor alongside fatigue and stomache cramps. Just stopped cannabis and it showed up on bloods but didn't when I was on it. Strange...
Went to the doctor 2 years ago for an unrelated reason, had bloodwork, everything was normal except they noticed my bilirubin slightly above normal. Not drastic. So she wanted further bloodwork ordered, and a liver function test done. Got all that done, the second time I got bloodwork everything was normal. They couldn’t find anything wrong with my liver or gallbladder, or anything in that area. Sometimes I have yellowish eye whites, very slight yellow skin tone on occasions. So my doctor said I most likely had Gilbert Syndrome. Not because she could prove it with a test, but because all her other tests couldn’t find any other reason for it. Still happens off and on today usually when I’m extremely tired and haven’t gotten much sleep. Otherwise no other symptoms. And the yellowing isn’t severe, just slight, to the point you may not notice. But I do. Been on the back of my mind but never really looked into it myself, because the doctor told me not to worry about it. But suddenly wanted to learn more. Lol. Lots of sleep and water seem to help the eyes.
I've had two different doctors diagnose me for GS and I got very frustrated when they said no treatment is required. While I understand that it's a benign syndrome, the daily episodes of jaundice in my eyes affects my self-esteem really badly and negatively affects my mood and mental health which just triggers the jaundice. People in past thought I was high. It's an endless cycle and I am desperate at this point to stop the jaundice from happening. I sleep well, drink lots of water, I don't fast, I don't take any medications. I recently heard that Phenobarbitol is a drug that can help with the hyperbilirubinemia levels to stop the jaundice from happening. What are your thoughts about that?
I was told I had this nearly 20 years ago yet I've never had jaundice. I've put it to the back of my mind. I thought at the time, my GP was taking the piss saying I looked like Gilbert the alien.
I had jaundice right after I was born, but no issues after that. My bilirubin levels are double what they should be, but nowhere close to causing jaundice
I knew that i had Gilbert's syndrome around 2 years back when i had to go through gallbladder surgery. Before the surgery i thought i was suffering from jaundice so i started eating completely boil food and also extremely lowered my suger consumption. I consumed boiled food for almost for a year but my billuribin was still a little bit higher than normal. After the surgery i continued eating boiled food and also through out the time my diet waa extremely healthy with high amount of green vegetables and fiber rich food with good fruits. I usually never consume fast food and i never had alcohol and i never did anything that could cause harm to my liver so it was very unlikely for me to suffer from jaundice and when i reached out to my doctor he run MRCP and also did my LFT and he said that my liver was healthy and i have Gilbert's syndrome. Usually when i take stress or don't get my meals in time my eyes become a bit yellow but it gets to normal when i take rest and take proper meals so if someone ha e Gilbert's syndrome don't worry just eat healthy excercise and don't take too much stress you'll be fine.
Husband has it. I think my son has it. His bilirubin was high on his first blood test at 20 years old. All other lab values are normal. My husband's eyes look yellow when he fasts and exercises a lot.
I was diagnosed with Gilberts Syndrome in 2016 or 18 but i remember being put on mental medication (Lexicpro and Fluxiton) also some meds they give to chemo patience's, after that it was omerprozale and sodium bicarbinate and lanzapro, but literally nothing worked till i moved and finally tried legal pot and that literally help more than anything else. in my opinion, if you live in a legal weed state of any kind then try it for GS. small doses will go far trust me, it helps the feeling of being pukey and helps apitite
Could there be a connection to acid reflux/GERD since it affects the creation of bile? I just got diagnosed with Gilbert’s syndrome and I’m wondering it has anything to do with it. I often get acid reflux when I fast.
I’m a mindful eater, take good care of my health like nothing else matters, but realized that I have Gilbert’s syndrome because my bili is always high. Most of the time I’m my own doctor
I know now why my grandfather died of alcohol poison his liver could not digest alcohol. My uncles, my brothers and now me. I have always wondered why I could not hold my liquor. I would immediately vomit. My body protecting itself. Now another problem I have is I have to be careful of what medication I take so that further liver damage does not occur.
I have Gilbert’s syndrome and also experienced frequent pain by my right ribcage. Ultrasound and labs all came back fine but the pain is still there. Did you find a solution?
I do! Very frequently and was beginning to worry as nowhere states it is a symptom of GS. As far as I am aware, this pain is caused by the liver membrane due to liver inflammation. I notice it reduces when I eat anything spicy/with chillies, not sure why. Looking for answers too.
I have noticed stomach pain, ibd etc is closest associated with this. I have a feeling that people with chronic stomach issues will have occasional jaundice I’m guessing due to malabsorption but I’m not sure everyone has this condition. Doctors, please look into the relation with the GIT and Bilirubin.
I wouldn't say Gilbert's is entirely benign or without treatment. I have Crohn's and my specialist is fairly certain I have Gilbert's also. I have high billirubin about every second blood test. I have been prescribed vitamin B injections by my GP because he suspects my liver is "locked up" , his words. When I have a vitamin B shot I have the most horrible smelling dark urine for a couple days. The same happens with vitamin B supplements but I don't absorb them very well. Afterwards my skin and eyes are much lighter in colour and I begin to feel the fatigue fade and energy come back.
I want to share my experience with you guys. I got diagnosed 1 year ago after feeling very unwell several times like the feeling when you have feve + gi disturbancesr. Many test done everything looks normal except elevated indirect billirubin. Doctor said it’s benign but i was depressed, exhausted all time with nausea and dyspepsia. Luckily things become a bit better gradually. Now after one year, I don’t have the unwell feeling (rarely in severe stress)but still with irregular bowel movements either constipation or diarrhea all the time and it’s annoying(studies suggest the gs is linked to ibs). Extreme fatigue occurs sometimes especially early the day, but it’s less common and milder these days. I don’t have noticed jaundice it’s just mild yellowish discoloration. If anyone complains from abnormal bowel movements please inform me a solution. Hope you all be patient and blessed that this disease is not a disaster❤️🔥
I was diagnosed with Gilbert’s after a long run around involving my liver counts. That was about a year ago now. And with all the uproar I’m still not entirely sure that’s the only thing going on with my liver.
I have also diagnosed with GS. Recently i also experienced swelling of hands particularly palms and then it will automatically go away within minutes. Sometime swollen lips but, rare
gilbert’s syndrome has caused me sm pain. every couple of days i feel like i have a stomach bug and get super nauseous. then it lasts for 1-3 hours. my upper right side always hurts, my eyes are ALWAYS yellow. it stops me from doing so many things. doctors definitely underestimate it.

Anyone else seeing low WBC’s and neutrophils in their labs due to this condition? I made it to about age 38 with zero signs and normal labs and then my bilirubin started to ramp up, and my WBCs and specifically neutrophils started to tick down to lowest of the range and even slightly lower levels at times, yet I have zero symptoms otherwise. I am active, train resistance strength training via weight training and gymnastics rings regularly, and frequently participate in zone 2 aerobic training. I even fast for 72 hours occasionally and utilize regular sauna usage and cold plunging. But from lab perspective the average doctor assumes my immune system is weak yet I rarely if ever get sick. It’s been an interesting learning experience but until I found this video I’ve found nobody else like me out there with these symptoms. Like other posters I’ve heard this is a blessing in disguise due to cardiovascular disease mitigation, with a few studies in Taiwan where it was frequently observed that patients with high bilirubin, a potent natural antioxidant, also had low WBCs and low instances of CVD. Fascinating stuff. Would love to hear from others with data to support their observations.
I have had gilberts since I was a teen. I also lead a similar life to you and recent blood work shows I have a lower than normal WBC, RBC, and alkaline phosphatase. Is this the same for you?
I am 25. Recently diagnosed with gilbert's. Bilirubin 1,7-2,7. And also WBC's and neutrophils low many times on blood tests. When I was not yet diagnosed with gilbert the doctor said that I should check neutrophils after a meal and if it is normal then it is ok. So it was.
@@monbow921 very similar as you have mentioned, though I don’t have abnormal phosphatase. I will need to look into that one a bit further. I will revert to you if I find anything notable for you.
@@wlotugamer it’s good you’re paying attention at a younger age. So far from my learnings, this is a benign condition with potential upside for cardiovascular health in the long run. I assume that is held true particularly when the person maintains a healthy lifestyle in general, eating well, exercising regularly, managing stress well, sleeping sufficiently well, and practicing regular recovery habits they enjoy. Happy to help anytime if I notice any further questions on here.
I have also skin problems like atopic dermatitis for about 3 years. Mostly on hands and feet. I regularly attend an allergologist but we cannot find a cause for the allergic skin reactions. I am wondering if Gilbert's syndrom is somehow related to the atopic dermatitis because I've heard that high bilirubin levels may cause some itching.
so i been researching and from what i've experienced and my next step in my own studies i am going to try bile salts to help and see if that helps i've always had issues taking poops so maybe this will help me get rid of the bilrubin build up since it goes through your bile and helps ur gallbladder
The ending to this video is EXTREMELY disappointing. Treatment beyond simply dishing out medication is very possible and necessary for Gilberts. When you've spent most of your life oestrogen dominant and suffering with the resulting consequences of (this such as breast cysts and multiple miscarriages), over-reacting to any form of drug given to you, and years of digestive absorption issues then you can come and tell me this is benign. All are linked to my Gilberts! And through a change of diet, supplements, and an extreme liver support life style everything is better and well. The medical profession have no right to say this is benign just because they don't have a cure or medication that changes the situation.

I have Gilbert Syndrome. Male 36. It was diagnosed in 2007 or something. No treatment found. I use drops or pills to lower my bilirubin from time to time. Yellowish eyes and skin are the symptoms. I assume faster fatigue, dark circles under eyes are also the symptoms because of it. Stress - mental (stress at work) and physical (eg. physical work, gym) are probably also play a huge role and increase bilirubin. Doctors I met has a limited (book) knowledge about it and have no recommendations.

Been meaning to follow this up but have been busy, Haven't had any problems I will book another check-up and see what's going on. I had a ultra sound done a few months ago and said my lower abdomen is fine no damage just having trouble processing the bilirubin.
@Urmom-gs5wm Not 100% It's not much noticeable at times unless I move my eye to the side. Which will have slight yellowing on the whites of my eye. Spoke to my doctor, and he said to keep monitoring my levels. With bloodtests every 3 months. He says the bilirubin is pretty much an anti oxidate and is kinda good for you in a way. Also, no one notices the yellowing of my eyes unless I point it out. Or have high levels of 6 tends to spike if you're doing stuff outta the norm

@@7Jamal8 bit late to answer but I feel normal
Do you have dried lips especially the lower one?
So the more we drink water does it result in reduce yellowing of eyes ?
I feel sleepy most of the time and got dried lower lips?
Yes for me also keeping hydrated and good sleep is paramount. Especially sleep.
Just got diagnosed with this today its been interesting to learn about.

Brother what is the result of phenobarbital medicine of Gilbert syndrome disease
Yes Phenobarbital works but dull brain

I was told I had this nearly 20 years ago yet I've never had jaundice. I've put it to the back of my mind. I thought at the time, my GP was taking the piss saying I looked like Gilbert the alien.
lol
I had jaundice right after I was born, but no issues after that. My bilirubin levels are double what they should be, but nowhere close to causing jaundice
I have this and I dont take any medication since detected in 2018, I dont have any symptoms, this is not fatal, no need for treatment
Why you go to gallbladder surgery?
did u felt any kind of pain and discomfort in your gut?
Did your Gallbladder was removed? I am experiencing the same issu, high level of bilirubin in blood+ 14 mm stone in gallbladder
You have dried lips?
Thank you
Husband has it. I think my son has it. His bilirubin was high on his first blood test at 20 years old. All other lab values are normal. My husband's eyes look yellow when he fasts and exercises a lot.
Unfortunately GB syndrome sufferers shouldn't fast. I have it too, it sucks
When anxiety makes it hard to eat and I start turning yellow🥲
I was diagnosed with Gilberts Syndrome in 2016 or 18 but i remember being put on mental medication (Lexicpro and Fluxiton) also some meds they give to chemo patience's, after that it was omerprozale and sodium bicarbinate and lanzapro, but literally nothing worked till i moved and finally tried legal pot and that literally help more than anything else. in my opinion, if you live in a legal weed state of any kind then try it for GS. small doses will go far trust me, it helps the feeling of being pukey and helps apitite
Awesomely explained! Keep up the work.
Does there have to be intermittent cases of jaundice in order to diagnose one with Gilbert syndrome? What if the jaundice is chronic?
Could there be a connection to acid reflux/GERD since it affects the creation of bile? I just got diagnosed with Gilbert’s syndrome and I’m wondering it has anything to do with it. I often get acid reflux when I fast.
Конечно, у меня так же
i got diagnosed with this in July 2024 had no idea about it
It took 5 years but they diagnosed it, symptoms started when I was in puberty and fasting. I also used to collapse as a result
Sir,Can i go to middlest countries or abroad on a work visa with Gilbert Syndrome diseases? All blood test are normal and i feel well all time
I’m a mindful eater, take good care of my health like nothing else matters, but realized that I have Gilbert’s syndrome because my bili is always high. Most of the time I’m my own doctor
I was just diagnosed with this recently knew nothing about it but I will learn more and I didn't even know it was a thing either
It can be acquired??
I know now why my grandfather died of alcohol poison his liver could not digest alcohol. My uncles, my brothers and now me. I have always wondered why I could not hold my liquor. I would immediately vomit. My body protecting itself. Now another problem I have is I have to be careful of what medication I take so that further liver damage does not occur.
Hello! Does anybody else get right ribcage pain from Gilbert's syndrome? If so, any supplements that can be taken to reduce the pain? Thanks!
I have pain sometime
I have Gilbert’s syndrome and also experienced frequent pain by my right ribcage. Ultrasound and labs all came back fine but the pain is still there. Did you find a solution?
I do! Very frequently and was beginning to worry as nowhere states it is a symptom of GS. As far as I am aware, this pain is caused by the liver membrane due to liver inflammation. I notice it reduces when I eat anything spicy/with chillies, not sure why. Looking for answers too.
Same here. Did you find a solution?
@@nickszabodrums I have felt the pain only when I have been dehydrated. Otherwise its alright.

Sir i have gilbert syndrome diagnosed by the doctor but direct billirubin also comes high sometimes, what could be the problem?
Me too. What was your problem?
@@Mohbaqerme tooo, do you know what is your problem ? I feel nauseous all the time, can't even sleep correctly
How are you now
I was diagnosed with Gilbert’s after a long run around involving my liver counts. That was about a year ago now. And with all the uproar I’m still not entirely sure that’s the only thing going on with my liver.

Sir I have same problem Gilbert syndrome intrubin coming up that is my main problem paint stomach pain everything how sir in any treatment
so i been researching and from what i've experienced and my next step in my own studies i am going to try bile salts to help and see if that helps i've always had issues taking poops so maybe this will help me get rid of the bilrubin build up since it goes through your bile and helps ur gallbladder
how did the bile salts work for you?
yes im also interesseted, im think of liver detox and liver cleanses
Do you take calcium d glucarate for it, I’ve been diagnosed with Gilbert’s and this is supposed to help with removal of estrogen
How do you manage it?
Exactly. Thank you!
I have PCOS and I remember how I felt when the doctor told me it would be hard for me to conceive I now have 4 children very successful pregnancies. God blessed me! with use of herbs 🌿
