Approach to Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding - causes, symptoms (melena) and treatment

Patients with acute upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding commonly present with hematemesis (vomiting of blood or coffee-ground-like material) and/or melena (black, tarry stools).
Common causes of UGI bleeding include peptic or duodenal ulcers, erosive gastritis, GORD, Variceal haemorrhage/bleeding, angiodysplasia and mallory Weiss tear. More uncommon causes of UGI bleeding include GAVE, cameron lesions, hemobilia and succus pancreaticus

I have had black stool from Tuesday and it is now Monday for me. I didn’t pass a stool for 2 days and I passed one 5 minutes ago and it doesn’t seem as dark as it was and only a trace amount of blood whereas before it was quite a lot. Does this mean it’s ok now or what should I do? I’ve had a pain in the left side of my stomach for a good few days now as well and it triggers when I have a bowel movement and when I eat. I believe this may be a stomach ulcer but I am not sure. I got tablets from A&E and they told me I have a respiratory tract infection which I don’t understand has anything to do with my black stool. My bloods and urine came back normal. What should I do?

I had a similar problem for a month plus, medication can cause black stool, but in my case I wasn't taken any meds. First I went on a three day fast, cut out any alcohol, on the third day I broke my fast with a salad (lettuce, cucumper, and a hard boiled egg) the salad dressing was olive oil and balsamic vinegar wich your body likes. Did this for 2 days, and it cleared up, and I started eating my regular meals. The fasting was probably the best part where you give your gut a vacation lol.
