I'm coming from 0 and the first Kiwami, and going into this one, the combat and movement just feel so different to me and now I sort of have to adjust to all the changes. It's been fun getting the hang of it, although it was a bit of a struggle unlearning certain habits I got used to doing while playing 0 and Kiwami 1
Also I absolutely adore the crazy ass ragdoll phyisics
Man you and me both man like I played yakuza 0 and kiwami 1 as well and man playing 2 now I love some of the adjustment as far playing kiwami as far as the graphics for one which was a big improvement, Being able to go into stores without pressing X to enter and also being able to pin the location on stores and other places. However, man I strongly agree with you the combat and movement I quite find uneasy to me like switching fight styles I use to miss like that was fun to do and stuff. As far as defensive I'm still trying to get adjusted to cause like the evasive movement is similar to the rush still in 0 and kiwami except its much more slower paced cause I was so used to moving fast when it comes to dodging attacks so fast like kiryu was the flash. Now in kiwami they toned it down like you really have to test yourself time it right and that's what im still trying to get used to so I'm just been using L1 to guard and run around to dodge and come in with attacks and all the styles are combined in one like you can grab objects to hit without switching styles and the combos are different to

Coming from 0 and Kiwami, this game combat feels a lot more cool, satisfactory and complex to play in every way (only missing the different style mechanics). So far so good!
Combat looks great! The combo charge mechanic puts me in the mind of a modified version of SpikeOut Battlestreet's charge attacks

I'd like to note that later on throughout leveling up your move set you'll unlock the dash cancel ability and dash attack abilities respectfully. These two are highly important and I cannot reccomend them enough in spicing up your combos. Most light attacks and some heavy attacks are dash cancellable allowing for you to do loops and quick almost kiwami and zero rush style combos. a Good example would be (S=square T=Triangle S,S,S, X~T or S~T>X~T) This I've found makes battles just a bit more flashy and allows quick low committal strikes that also push you out of harms way. Try em out!
I honestly don't mind Kiwami 2 having 1 combat style. And this is coming from someone who only played zero and kiwami.
I didn't care for beast style even though it was great for groups of enemies, but I mostly only used it for the aoe heat moves, the rush style while cool felt like an easy way to beat bosses as it allowed you to constantly weave and dodge allowing you to never be hit.
I think the brawler and dragon style were the most satisfying to fight with when you pulled it off right.
I only used brawler and rush, not once have i used dragon or beast in Kiwami 1.

@@colemacgrath8846 But it does require a LOT of effort, and even some RNG, to get there (I.E. you can ONLY use heat moves if you fight slugger Majima, and only if he is wandering around town- his interuppting fights and ambushes do not count).
I can definitely agree to this.
It helps that abilities he originally only had in one moveset are built into or unlocked for Kiryu's regular moveset in this game, such as using throws for AoE (beast) or cancelling certain attacks with quickstep (rush).
Gtfo you and your stupid argument, this combat style doesn't have anything to fight against bosses on hard, you rather get blocked and your combo stops or you get sidestepped, and then you take a shitton of dmg, that's why they implemented the weapons sloths cause the fighting is absolutly useless. I tought by watching his video i would learn some hidden new style that will help but it seems again just items...
Good Guide Leon, sure it will be of help for all the players who play Kiwami 2. Another method I tend to use to gain "insane" amounts of money is one that also returns from the originals in PS2. Basically consist in get all the Cheat Items you can have, go to the Gambling Hall or the Casino and use them to get a good amount of points, now those points are going to be change for Platinum Plates in the Prizes, take those Plates to Ebisu, rinse and repeat.

That unnamed punch flurry heat action from 6 ("Dragon Flurry", as your friend called it) is back again; does it have a name this time?
No, and you don't access it the same way as you do in 6. To get that heat move, you need to chain 3 charged punches in extreme heat mode.
If only Ryuji was a playable character, so Leon can cover The Dragon of Kanrai's ragdoll inducing punches.

Going back to this almost 4 years later - weapons are hella OP in Kiwami 2. Using some spear and a saw got me through both Ryuji fights and the MiB on the elevator.
I'm happy granny White is back since i heard rumor that she was removed from kiwami 2 and this new mechanic in combat interest me very much.

Man it sucks that they removed the old fighting style. Rush, Brawler, Beast, and Dragon style.
I cant use dragon style I think its shit I haven't fully upgraded it but I just don't like it sad about the others tho
@@yooutoob3141 I dont know about 0, but in kiwami by the time you have the 4 hit combo on dragon it is literally a better brawler, and that's with only like a 4th of the abilities for it
@@yooutoob3141 well in kiwami after you learn tiger drop you can just tiger drop every other boss 🤣.
@@yooutoob3141 once you maxed dragon style..is the best style. you can use the famous komaki tiger drop. is not difficult maxing the style eexcept certain minigames like the bowling. Kazuma inherites some thugs skills and slugger skills from Majima.(Mad dog chokehold and maddog: demon). dragon style fully charged can use charged atacks in the middle of the combos...you have various double finishing blows...like the mortal kick and the descent of hammer fist. besides you can use finishing blows plus grabs at the end of the combo. Dragon Style can increase speed when you are in climax heat mode(all the heat gauge of dragon mode counts as climax heat). one of my favorite defensive skills is the komaki catflip(prevents you fall to the grounds if you receive an uppercut or a kick who send you flying). Komaki tiger drop increase its strength when you are calm(zero heat gauge).
@@rodrigocantarino4751 in kiwami 2 theres an early sequence where you spar with komaki and he starts spamming tiger drop once he gets to his last healthbar. Annoying, but probably just a taste of kiryus own medicine
Well, the situation about charge attacks... For some it might be tough to let go of Square and keep attacking while Triangle is pressed. So my idea is to swap the functions of the buttons, if PS4 games lets you.
For this situation, I'd be up to swap the Rush Attack and Grab buttons so that we could easily do the Rush combo while the Finishing Blow (Triangle) is held. Although there will make some complications in a certain heat action, but the access to the basic attacks is what I think it's most important. Just saying.
Why doesn't anyone like for the map to spin when you move? I mean it would hurt my head to walk right and it shows left on the minimap lol
IISourAyyII I use rotate as well! So you’re not the only one 😊
This makes it easier to know what direction you need to be told to go at the very least. It's far more noticeable to notice your character's arrow on the minimap facing a certain direction instead of where the N symbol is to signify North. So I can just easily think "oh I have to go east, that's rightside of a map", and then just orient myself and go that direction. Rotating maps always disoriented me.
I get the East West thing, but I don't think that way, I prefer when I go straight and the mao shows my character walk up and when I make a left its a left and a right its a right. I guess to each their own. I'm suprised but I see now others do like that.
On a side note, a lot of people liked the game "Burnout Paradise" and I couldn't stand it because of the map "not rotating". My sense of direction was always messed up lol

going from kiwami to kiwami 2 off rip the combat was way different then what i was used to im still not very good with it so that first Ryuji fight was pure hell💀
best money guide: save & gamble. this title lets you convert your gambling coins back to money (buying and selling high value plates). theres a gamble house in sotenbori, (Bottom left -ish) and i made 4 mil in an hour. im only in chapter 2 or 3.
I know it’s a bit late but I want to ask. Is judgement the only game that allows you heat action (ex actions) multiple enemies? Cause I played judgement first than started Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 2 and found out most of the heat actions in the two games are focused on one person.
My own head-cannon: The new fighting style Kiryu has in the recent games is a further evolved version of dragon of dojima. Kinda like a "True Dragon Of Dojima" style.
I was expecting it to be like Yakuza Kiwami 1, it was so much better...

@Trahn-Jahn They're both good combat systems at the end of the day. 6 and K2 definitely have a steeper learning curve though.
ramicollo most people who say 0’s combat is the best probably got introduced to the series through Yakuza 0. Before that, Kiryu always fought in the one, dragon style

Went into preimierm adventure mode didn't no its just all the extra stuff without upgrades money and done sub stories instantly got the granny white battle god 1st time without attack increase is kinna crazy... I see where the challenge of no upgrades run comes from and the feel of it
Can you make a guide for Yakuza Kiwami 2 using the Yakuza 6 tips you already provided? My Yakuza 6 copy is sealed because I'm playing them from 0-6 since I want no spoilers. Just a thought cause maybe others are doing the same. Thanks.

I hoped kiwami 2 was gonna be more like 0 and kiwami in combat. I'm playing through Yakuza 6 as we speak and I can't help to feel let down by the combat, you can tell they lost the spark in the combat by basing it around the new Dragon engine making moves physics based and very weighted. Would have been thrilled to see rush in its current graphics and having the alternative play styles available, but guess it's just clunky gameplay mixed with a downgraded framerate and resolution
The combat isn't great but I disagree about them loosing the spark. You gotta remember that the combat in y0 and kiwami had like 7 other games prior to perfect the combat style. Even on the ps3 engine, that's still yakuza 3-5, Kenzan and ishin. The combat feels so good because they've had nearly 10 years to work on it. I was honestly surprised RGG studios went and entirely reworked the combat system in y6. I understand how they want to make the combat feel more real and weighty, and streamline it for the new tech. Even tho it didn't totally pay off I think it shows that they're still willing to take some risks and trying to keep things fresh with change. By the time Shin yakuza rolls around, they'll finally have a good handle on the dragon engine, and I'm confident the gameplay will reflect that.

@@ramicollo did you... Read my comment. I know k1 and y0 were better. I say that lmao. They're the best BECAUSE they've been using the same combat engine for 10 years. Y6 combat is bad because they just made it on a brand new engine. To sumarrize my previous comment: yes y6 combat is bad, k2 is much better but it still needs work. It's not great because it's new and unfamiliar with the team. BUT I don't think they've "lost their spark, or failed" simply cause they want change. Judge eyes combat felt damn good, and the ragdoll was way toned down. They keep getting better n better with the new engine. So when shin yakuza finally arrives, I think it'll play great.
New system is waay better than y0 and kiwami. It feels much more dynamic and you feel the impact better. Cant see how you'd prefer the old style

I didn't really have an issue with money, I had about 40 mil by chapter 5. To be fair I ran the cabaret until the game made me stop.

You have to get to chapter 12 and go to the acupuncture doctor
That square + triangle charge combo is super unsafe and not stylish at all
Unless you're going for no damage or something, it works pretty well when you know how to use it. I found that if you land the first square charge attack, there can be a good chance that the rush combo that follows will hit fully, but it will not always work, and even then you can just dodge away if the charge attack was blocked, or if the rush combo was blocked halfway.
So, when are you coming back to Kurohyou 2?
No exact estimate but I will get back to it at one point for sure. There's so much Yakuza going on right now.
devilleon7 yeah i mean if you count the PC release of 0 and Kiwami 1 then five western Yakuza games are coming out in one year. And to think just about 3 years ago we were worried the series was dead in the water in the west.
No Tiger drop that 3 shots all the bosses in the game, 1/10 would not reccomend.
I hope this gets fps boost. Rough going from 60 fps Kiwami 1 to 30 fps in this.

DEEZNUTS cragmiar Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a lot easier when it comes to fighting bosses and how Kw 2 and 6 okay are similar just that the quickstep in 6 isn’t spaced out basically ignoring gravity

No there aren't. You just have to upgrade skills with exp points. Quickstep isn't as good in this game, as an example.

Bought the game a couple of weeks ago. The combat in Kiwami 2 feels limited and repetitive, imo. Kiwami 1 is way better. Why couldn’t they keep the fighting styles the same? 🤔
It's pretty much the same like in 0 but they make it a little bit more of new combat in k2 and 6 but they wanted to be challenging so who knows what will happen in 7
