Living in Nairobi can be surprisingly cheap depending on your familiarity with the metropolitan region. If you go for what the city offers at face value, then you find very expensive deals. Take your time to learn other estates and you may even find yourself paying the equivalent of your current monthly rent for 5-6 months.
"Living in Nairobi can be surprisingly cheap" !!? I love Nairobi and I've travelled quite a bit around Africa, but "cheap" is not one word I would use to describe it, in general, it's quite a costly city as compared to other countries around Eastern Africa, but it's a big city, more advanced or developed, and there are lots more opportunities compared to other cities in Africa so it makes sense that it would be more expensive because the standards are higher as well. Another thing is that "cheap" is relative, so I guess it also depends on personal income and the area that a person would live. The great thing is that there is variety
@@nicolebuhendwa8342 exactly. Cheap is a relative term. You can only judge what is cheap in Nairobi by comparing it to other goods and services offered in Nairobi. Not other countries.

Hi Alma, as you stay longer in Kenya - and specifically Nairobi - being your first landing City, I would say that you will over time discover that the cost of living pretty much depends on where you are residing. At USD$ 300 to 400, it will be a lot more comfy. Nairobi is also the main eing hinterland for tropical food produce and therefore food is a lot cheap here...again..in Lavington, it is often still expensive.

Cost of living is high yes, but it really depends on where you live. Lavington and Kileleshwa are high end areas frequented by expatriates. So the rent in those areas will always be high. But there are many other areas with equally good housing where rent will definitely be cheaper. Be open to that.
6:43 You moved to a posh place (Kileleshwa and Lavington are exclusively rich people suburbs), the average cost of rent in your average middle-class neighborhood for a similar house would be less than half of the lowest amount you have quoted.

Sorry about the Rent cost. Even us kenyans we are suffering. I think rent is high partly because of the larger international community that lives and works in Kenya plus it being a tourist destination. But other towns away from Nairobi rent is fairly affordable. But Nairobi is a no no.
I believe the cost of living is at par but if you tell me in Nigeria a neighborhood like lavington costs about $1400 per year then I'm definitely considering to move there!
I keep telling all my friends here that Kenya is my ultimate retirement destination though I'm not even in the continent atm. About the cost of living. It depends on what part of Lagos vs. what part of Nairobi. Most working people that relocate to a new place typically stay in the pricey parts of town, as you don't yet know the "interior" and you typically want to stay close to the office. Just like most foreigners that relocate to Lagos would stay in VI/Ikoyi instead of Agungi or Ikate. All na island but the rent is different. Meanwhile, you don't look Kenyan. You look African. If I ran into you in Germany, I wouldn't think, "That's a Kenyan lady". And Nigerians speak English first because we have like a million local languages, so even the average Nigerian you run into might not understand yours. Anyhoo, safe travels and enjoy the weather 😊
October is not cold in Kenya. Intense coldness starts from June to September.kenyans themselves miss sunlight during those months coz it's mist all day .Not unless you're at 🏔️ Kenya that is cold all through.karibu Tena.
By many other African countries standards Nairobi will always be cold. I live in Mozambique now and whenever my family in Nairobi complains about it being hot, I just laugh because it is nothing compared to the heat here. Maybe her experience from Nigeria is the same. Even Mombasa weather is a walk in the park for me now.
welcome to Nairobi alma You are currently staying at a very expensive location...rent can be exaggerated in Lavington. Try Roysambu and Utawala. safe and secure but still affordable. around $200 for a 2 bedroom unfurnished apartment
Kileleshwa or lavington is what we consider as leafy suburbs...rent in those 2 areas is quit expensive but anyway there other many areas within Nairobi that are relatively cheaper.
Consider the outskirts of Nairobi, they're much cheaper, around Kiambu road for example which is about 30 minutes to the cbd it's much more calm & the housing is about the same, plus it's close to Karura forest for when you're looking to unwind in nature. Kileleshwa, Lavington, Westlands, Kilimani etc are on the high side in terms of rent. Most foreigners who come to Nairobi gravitate towards places like Westlands & end up with the impression that's what all of Nairobi is like, it's not, you just need to figure out the ropes, it's much easier if you've got a local helping you out.

Awesome video, love it. Welcome to Kenya, we love visitors. You will enjoy it here. Most important swahili word you need to learn, habari yako - meaning how are you or hi 👋. Then switch to English. That will be a great introductory statement 😊 Lavington is expensive, its one of the high end suburbs in Nairobi. There are other safer, affordable & awesome areas that are way cheaper rent wise. Lol my first time here, great video..What you said of Kenya is similar to SA lexcept for the receipt, that one depends on the store..nice to know I wouldn't have much culture shocks when I visit there..
Lavington and Kileleshwa are upper-market neighborhoods so they're for the rich. You can find good, secure, and affordable apartments in middle-class neighborhoods like along Thika Road. Places like Kasarani, Roysambu. BTW Roysambu has a very huge Nigerian community
Jane unamtuma kwao bila kumtuma kwao😂
@@denniskamau921 yeah...she'll will right at home at Roysambu😄
Ure so jovial and relaxed...Wish you well in whatever you do there in my beautiful Country. Am watching from USA..
Nairobi about 1800ft above sea level the weather is cold ❄ and oxygen levels are low
Kenya is a trilingual nation where majority speaks 3 languages
Karibu Kenya
The receipt part if funny 😊
Welcome my Sister but Kenya is not Nairobi only,We have so many beautiful cities which are cheap to relocate 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
I mentioned that I have an engagement in Nairobi, or did you miss that part?
@@almaasinobi Sawa sawa.
Try the surroundings it will blow ur mind. Welcome to Kenya.
Ask around and do some research, Nairobi has nice affordable apartments too... Incase you end up staying for too long... There are so many posh places with affordable rent rates
Alma welcome to Kenya, karibu sana dada
Awwwwwwwn, congratulations Alma!! You’re doing so great! 🎉🤍
Thank you so much 🤗
Hi Alma. Welcome to Kenya I hope you enjoy your time in Kenya
The receipt thing has happened to me a couple of times when I travel. It doesn't happen in Kenya, so that was a big shock to me as well.
Unless you go to some Indian shop like house of leather… they check receipts and that never sits well with me
@@AnalystTosh In Zimbabwe almost every store checks receipts when you leave. It is so normal to us.
nice editing. love it
Nice video, about rent and prices of things they depend on the that you reside in, i pay around 90$ that is a one bedroom, and i can't buy things when i am in a estate that you are leaving becouse things are much more expensive there.
Awesome video, love it. Welcome to Kenya, we love visitors. You will enjoy it here. Most important swahili word you need to learn, habari yako - meaning how are you or hi 👋. Then switch to English. That will be a great introductory statement 😊
Lavington is expensive, its one of the high end suburbs in Nairobi. There are other safer, affordable & awesome areas that are way cheaper rent wise. Even as close to you as Westlands, you can get a $100 apartment.
It's hotter here in September - October. Then January - mid April. July is 🥶 really cold. Once again Karibu sana Kenya. Looking forward to seeing more content from you
Lavington & Kileleshwa neighborhoods are a bit pricey. You need a local contact to help you shop around for the same standard apartment at half your quoted rent. Good luck.
Quarter the price
You're just so pretty, and your hairstyle frames your face so nicely. So, I'll get around to watching your video, but for now, I've only admired your good looks (you also remind me of one of my nieces). Well done 👍
Sorry, unless you are paying for the house as a Airbnb or fully furnished apartment, a 1bedroom in Lavington shouldn't go beyond $500
Welcome to our magical kenya.much love
Nairobi is cold from July to September other months it just moderate, abit hotter in January and February.
Shocked but totally loveddd this life update !😍
Hi Asinobi, you need a Kenyan Amigo to show you around , you can live in very decent places for just $200 bucks, close to a mall and all. Most importantly to learn the Kenyan culture so that you can blend in easily. Otherwise you have an eccentric vibe 😉. Keep it 💯
This was interesting to watch 😊😊😊 I had to subscribe
welcome to kenya, i already love your vibe, new subscriber here
You could move to other areas of Nairobi that are quite comfortable for USD200-400/month for a 2 bedroom.
Welcome to Kanairo!
Thank you for sharing 🌺
I love your video, it's very clear and you are a good at explaining things.
In Nairobi there are so many cheap ppaces and good places too. From Mombasa road, Kitengela though it's in Kajiado, Thika Road etc. And make and date to visit several towns in Kenya before you leave. Mombasa, Meru, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret, Turkana, Malindi. You will experience different weather, different people, culture and food
Stay more in Kenya 🇰🇪, there alot of content you can shot here and gain more followers.
Kindly post more videos, if possible twice a week or thrice if you get time.
Aww congratulations baby. This is so exciting!Wish you the absolute best on this new journey❤️❤️
Thank you so much baby girl 💙
Love Kenya, wait until you go to the coast. Nairobi is cold but Laikipia up at the waterfall now up there is cold cold.
I've no idea where you at but it's very hot at the moment... Our so called winter is now over
Welcome to Kenya, indeed we are a friendly national. Kenya is Cold in highlands but very hot at the coast.
800$ is quite high end.... Rent isn't usually that high everywhere... Only high end estates
Wow 😯 now this is a Nigerian woman that I love ❤️😍 as a Kenyan guy 😊
Aww..so beautiful..miss you girl!!
❤️❤️
You are so beautiful! Welcome to Kenya 🇰🇪
