I have Mercedes E220D, 2017 W213, I have a problem that the fan would still be running on max. speed for a 1.5 minutes after killing the engine. Knowing that the engine is Model 654. I have relaced the following parts: Fan, Turmos, Water pump, water back feed line. All original parts but the problem is still on. Also no fault found, could you please help me troubleshooting the problem? THANKS ALOT

My car says take key from ignition and i fixed it but yesterday it started doing the same thing we turned the car on from fuze box but the steering wheel stays locked if i grind the lock on the esl will the car still turn on or would i need another esl?
That's what I did to mine at first. You can grind that bolt off of the ESL box and take it off. After that they'll be no more issues except your steering wheel won't lock when you turn it off, which isn't a big deal. Just grind the bolt off, unplug it, and you'll be good to go.
Did you ever go to MB? What did they say? I was going to just swap out the starter relay but they didnt have it for me to pick up so i just towed it to them. I'd like to think they would try the simple approach first but..... the starter is new, car ran great until it just didn't run. I dont think its ELS this time bc that gave me zero dash lights or radio. This time all of that works making me think the relay is crapped out. But I guess I will hear more tomorrow 😅
I didn't go to MB, just bought an Electronic ESL from Cali. The car's been working fine, so I skipped the $2500 they were going to charge me. What does it do when you put the key in the ignition? Sometimes you can actually get the radio, and you don't get a dash light, just a take key from ignition error message
I had issues with the ESL but figured out that if when I parked I needed to make sure my steering wheel and wheels are straight . No more locking ESL . With that I got zero lights or radio only thing that showed was remove key from ignition. This new issue I think was preceded by a weird symptom of the car kind of stuttering forward when I'd start it in a parking spot ,shift into drive and attempt to pull out of spot. It felt like the car wasn't getting power. The second time it did it I backed it right into the spot and turned it off and then got everything except the actual crank. Starter is 6 months old so I def don't think it's that. It's at MB now. I told them I think it's the relay so we shall see that they say. Car drove great and has 130k on it so I'm still wiping my tears after last night .
I was able to fix it myself, GLK 350. My ESL failed in the lock position, I took a rubber mallet tapped on the steering column to get one more unlock, after it unlocked disconnected the battery with the ESL unlocked. I was able to remove the ESL without taking out the steering column. Opened the ESL and replaced the motor inside it. The motor cost $10 on Amazon. When I replaced the ESL I didn't reinstall it. I zip tied it to the steering column so if it fails again I don't have to worry about the steering column being locked. Saved myself a couple grand.

If it doesn't start with the relay, try the wire method that's in the video. Make sure that the wire you're using is long enough to touch the metal in the relay space, and make sure the key is in the ignition in the start position after you remove the fuse, and are about to do the relay trick when trying this. That means that your ESL is in the locked position. How I fixed my problem was that I bought a little grommet tool from Walmart and cut the ESL box off of my steering column. It's directly under the steering wheel. If you remove the cover and look up, you'll see it. There's a little bolt on it that once cut will release the lock and allow you to remove it and start your car without hassle. Downside, your steering wheel won't lock. Upside, you save a lot of money and there's not too many people out here stealing Mercedes-Benz, so it's the cheapest cost effective route to take. I'm in Las Vegas. If I was closer, I would come and help.

This worked a few days consistently , but now it can take like 20 times just randomly. Only did it for a few days, my tester shows the outlet where the relay plugs in isn’t getting electricity but all the other fuses are and the fuse you pull out and put back in works every time. Any advice on what to do with the relay outlet to where it will receive electricity ? Or any tips on the process? Thanks man this was a life saver
If the relay outlet isn't getting power, you may have an electrical issue. The fuse you pull out goes to the starter. I would start by checking the wiring leading to your relay box
@@mercedesbenzadventure6166 long story short , car was working fine before I took it to some shop that works on foreign cars for a window regulator replacement , went to pick up car after they replaced it and my car did not start ,so idk what they did but had to take it to Mercedes and that’s what they said it was , so replaced fuse box and now they said it’s my computer
Get a fuse tester, test all the fuses in the box, and check your wiring to ensure everything is working properly... could be a short in your electrical or blown fuse. Mercedes will always go to the extreme for the biggest payout by hyping up the problem
I got quoted $2700 for a new steering wheel at Mercedes dealer. Please help… the car was in great condition before I turned the wheels too far. I cannot afford this repair.. I paid $4000 for extended warranty on the vehicle and OF COURSE they are saying it’s not covered!
Hi my GlK 350 2010 start at first but won't shift to drive or reverse ,so i off it and wont start again it was showing light in the parking lights wont let it shift then i have to start it from the fuse it only sound to start but it wont start , i have drive it all around with no problem but after 20mins it wont start anymore thats when i had the problem started
That's the sign of a bad ESL, they go bad at different times and different ways. Sometimes, they lock in the lock position which is harder to override and you'll have to start by cutting the ESL all together or pay mercedes a random to replace it

I went to planet fitness, and my car didn’t start.. same problem.. i went to walmart change the key battery.. nothing changed.. i will try this solution for tomorrow morning
Apologies for the late reply. Yes, it will. But, only up to certain years. I have a 2016 C300 as well, and it is having similar issues, I'm working on finding a workaround for that as well... stay tuned, and a video will follow. What year is your C300
Mine is a 2010 and needed a battery didn’t jump so I bought a new battery still just saying take key from ignition no lights coming on not starting going to check the starter
Apologies for the late response, had a lot on my plate, but this happened to me once... turn your steering wheel from left to right, hold foot on brakes, and move move gear shaft... it should shift from park. The reason is that the steering wheel lock isn't locking or is locked, while the ESL malfunctioned. Keep me posted
@jaciel2751 The bolt on the ESL lock box. Unscrew the nut, then grind the bolt down short enough to get the box from underneath the dash on the underside of the steering column
This overrides the ESL by jumping the starter, did you choose the right relay? This should start your car unless the starter is bad. What are your symptoms?

Go to Walmart and buy a little grinder and take the bottom panel off under your steering wheel and cut the ESL off. That'll unlock your wheel and fix your issue. If you want to spend the money to buy another ESL, you can, but it's really not needed
@relnquished they sell rotary tools at Walmart, they're small enough to reach the ESL and cut the lock, for like $30. Just make sure it had the little saw blade attachment

That's not fully safe, you'll need to remove the ESL, to ensure it doesn't engage accidently. Better to be safe than sorry, is my motto

The 15 amp fuze is anti teft?
I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I believe it's the starter fuse. The relay is the starter relay.

Steering column stays locked, what to do next
If your steering wheel is locked then you'll have to grind off the bolt on the ESL lock
