    Really cool shootout.
Just missed Studer A800, but it would take too much time.
    And maybe another time...
    Thank you very much!

Thank you! And yes - that needed to be included, and maybe the IK Multimedia ones as well next time.

First of all, great video! I own Oxide, Ampex 102 and Studer A800 but I never use Oxide but I’m definitely going to start. It sounded the best and honestly I was going to get Softube Tape even though it sounds great, I don’t think I need it because I own all of the UAD tapes.
I love U-he Satin as well! But Softubes is on sale, but I’m still going to save my money, thank😎

Thanks for the comment Jay. Yeah, I'd say you have all your basis covered. Softube is great, but you're already good to go.

Oxide sounded the best to me to really suited this track with the heavy handedness

i'm working with softube tape or slate digital tape machine right now ....are the uad oxide and studer a huge upgrade especially using it on the masterbus? ...unfortunately the uad ampex isn't available native

To my ears, the Waves J37 is the only one doing compression like real tape does, and it also seems to do some kind of mid-side processing, the right way. Sounds fantastic.

Yeap - J37 has always been one of my go tos.

They’re all pretty good. Heck even the cubase 11 pro tape effect is good. It’s nice just to throw on the master bus at the end for texture. Which is your go to tape emulation ?

I agree - they all sound pleasing. Recently it's been Softube Tape and UAD , but I am demoing those since I'm trying to make a decision, which one to buy. This video is a bit of a fact finding mission also. Normally I use Black Bock 2M/S lately, a bit of Amek200 and a Dangerous BAx - different, and no tape - that alone would give me the lift / wrap around and color that I like.

    The top here (imo)
    - Ampex (250, 15ips)
    - U-HE Satin
    - Fabfilter Saturn
    Satin vs. Ampex was tough.
All were able to get a tight low end and give a clear high end. Not too much tizzy highs and the lows weren’t smearing and overloading. Those inserts handle program material really well.
Honorable mention : Black Box gave me a lot of what I want from master tape. Thanks for throwing it in👌🏾

At that time I did not have them, so unfortunately no. I have all of them now though, got them recently. I am getting some phasing issues with them - not sounding right. Not sure what that is - I have to find out what that is, because normally these are known to be great.

ampex atr is the best cant beat it its a unique sound why test those tapes on dance music its makes it look like a comp pump test and not a tape lol i mean i got all of those and their musical grip is not represented on this comparison its to digital due to the track specially when these days all plug ins have tape inspired saturation and distortion sou people really need to know what is a real tape grip for musical material needs

the track isn't too digital plenty of natural instruments in there. it depends how hard you are willing to push tape. tape on the mix bus is just a gentle lift - that's what I wanted to see, so I didn't explore coloring or saturation options, that's been done to death. Agree that Ampex ATR-102 adds something the others don't. Would not want to own a real one though - they taught me to splice tape ...on Studers...ugh...

Atr sounded good once it hit Scotch 250 with enough headroom. The lows and low mids started becoming muddy and indistinct (and top end harshness). Once that was relaxed it sounded really clear but I’d watch how it pushed into it.
