Way better tutorial, than the guy that said you only need a steel nut and bolt ! And the best part is, there's commentary ! Perfect, you've been a big help ! Thank you
Great idea, thank you! I made a bunch of them to hang a long run of garden hose along a wire fence. Out of the way of the lawn mower, but ready to use for watering. So quick and easy once the jig is made. Thanks again!
Fantastic! Thank you so much for this video - simple always works best! Lifesaver! As another commenter said - I hope some young people watch this & learn something worth learning - you really don't have to buy everything! The future is people making their own stuff! Thanks again - going to set about making my jig now! Cheers from Cheshire, England.
this is what i was freakin looking for im building a wall decoration and wall posters and was needing hooks and find them so expensive ill be making me one of these thanks man hope you help me become a rich man before 30 lol much love from brasil
I am so glad you found this video! You are going to have a ball making all sorts of hooks! You are so right, they are very expensive!!!!!!!!!! =D Thanks!
Oh my Lord, I have made Jigs for steam turbines Transformers and enter winding for Electric motors. And it never occurred to me to do something like this. You're brilliant.
@@ScoutCrafter You're welcome. One time I restored a pair of old rusty linesman's by soaking them in seltzer water for a few days. After that, I brushed them and scrubbed them. Lastly, I used some WD-40 and oil. The weren't shiny and pretty, but they were rust free and opened smoothly after the treatment.
Very clever! Thanks for sharing this.. I am attempting to make Xmas ornament holders with wire and beads and this is a great idea to make each of them the same
I like the pins; never thought of doing that. I never throw away wire coat hangers; use them for all kinds of things including everything you show except the compression pins which I now will. I like taking things otherwise thrown away to make something that saves a purchase. especially when it's better than the purchased product.
You know Scout you are ingenious! You should sell the different size jigs along with all your different lubricants. You could make a nice penny. I would be your first customer.
Hi Frank! I could make really nice ones from Aluminum and steel dowel pins! I just wanted to show something anyone could make! It is lots of fun!!! Thanks!!!!! 😃👍
Hello Tommy! Wire clothes hangers are GOLD! They have a million uses! The older ones were really strong and well made! I always look for old wire hangers! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!
Nice vid! I keep trying to convince local thrift shops to not throw wire hangers away, to no avail so far. Since the advent of plastic hangers, they all say they throw them away. Occasionally someone will say they'll save them for me but there are no wire hangers whenever I go back in to their stores.
I made something similar for making hooks but I like your design better. Some advice for folks who cannot get wire coat hangers any more. In the States, just go around after any election day and collect some of the wire framed election signs. Discard the sign material and keep the wire frames. The are more heavy duty than coat hangers. I usually wait a little while until it is obvious that the candidate on the sign is not coming back to get their sign.
Maybe you could do a video on making wire benders / jigs for real jobs... I have been having a hard time looking for appropriate "S" hooks to use with a jack chain. The stores carry either too big or too small some carry the chain but not the hooks to fit it. So I thought I'd make some out of coat hanger. No easy task. I looked up wire jigs, and all I could find were jigs for Jewelry wire or fish hooks. and one that didn't look like it had what I needed for this job, but I'm going to get for others. This video is perfect, except I don't have the tools to cut the heads off of bolts.
Pretty crafty! How would I tighten a 5/16 thick S hook though? It’s for the safety chain of a trailer. I don’t know how to tighten it to close it onto the chain....
Hi Luis, Ideally you would use a press but you can also use a vise if you place the hook in the center of the jaws... 5/16 is pretty strong and needs some persuasion! =D
I want to hang necklaces on an ornamental birdcage (in a store). I bought some S-hooks at Home Depot, but when you touch the necklace it usually falls off. I'm going to try to make one that will fit my purposes better. Thanks.
Hi Marilyn- That is a great idea! You can make one end longer to suit your needs! I think you are really going to enjoy making these hooks! Not to mention they are very expensive to buy... Thanks for stopping by! 😃👍
i purchased a great boxing bag and stand that i mounted into the concrete in my garage, the chains and swivel are a bot too long for me and the bag hangs lower than I'd like. I am 6'3 so i had temporarily feed the chains through the carabiner, i need to bend the S hooks so i can properly reduce the chain length but they're pretty strong and i don't know the best way to easily get it done. Any recommendations?
By bend I'm not sure in what way... Those S hooks can be pretty tough! I made this video a while ago for Eye Bolts but can work with S hooks too! Hope it helps! ua-cam.com/video/d4prZBRaVTg/v-deo.html
Hello snakemonkey555, If you need really heavy duty stuff you can use music wire or you can obtain other types of wire at a welding supply shop like brass or aluminum... Even Home Depot sells smaller diameter cold rolled steel!!! Great stuff! Thanks very much!
ScoutCrafter Hey Scout, thanks for the reply. I’ll have to go to Home Depot and check it out. Hopefully there’re cheap like me, lol! The wire hangers these days are really thin. The hangers of yester-year was the good stuff. Thanks again!
You are so right about the terrible hangers today! I was taking a walk one night and I saw this house threw out a load of wire hangers! So I grabbed them! When I got home I was surprised to see that some were super strong!! They must have been 50 years old!!!! Good stuff!! Old hangers! lol Thanks again!!!!!!
I get many posts from people looking for S15 metal hooks. Any advice as to where they might go to have them made since nobody seems to sell them? Would a machine shop be able to make them?
You can easily cut them with a Hacksaw! Sorry I didn't include that info... It was a early video and I really want to re-shoot it adding more info! Thanks!!!!!
Clear, direct, to the point. Not a wasted word or action. Well done! Thanks!
Blacksmiths have been doing this for over a thousand years.
Nice tutorial.
Billy, it's a shame how much we forgot as a society.
Sir, this is brilliant and simple, and is going to be such a big help to me. Thank you so much!

Awesome friend.. very economical and wonderful 👍 idea.. thank you so much after how many years your idea is being used 👍 God bless you
Was just wondering whether metal hangers have a use… while also identifying a need for S hooks. Solution, hangers for S hooks! Very cool!

Very cool and nice clear direction - I would like to see the large safety pin holders being made by you. 👍
Great tip! Will try it tomorrow. (If you don't have a big diameter bolt/rod around, you can use emt conduit, pipe nipple or rachet socket.)
A very clever, simple and useful jig. Thank you.
Thanks very much Charles! Appreciate you letting me know!
This is great. I've actually got the handles from a bunch of broken fly swatters that would be perfectly repurposed in this way. Thanks for posting.
Spot on, coat hangers most definitely worth their weight in gold!!!
this is a very neat idea very easy to construct I think am going to build a jig like this to make fishing hooks. good video
What an excellent video! This will save me hours of work - Thanks
