    How To Drill This
So I've just piled a tonne of information into your head. I even called it simple. Which again, it certainly isn’t. To remember, or pull off when youre first learning it. All that’s simple is the premise. Get the underhook, get to your knees, finish by sweeping or taking the back. So how do we get all these complicated details memorized?
Well, the best way to engrain this into your brain is to find a drilling partner. Practice without resistance the techniques themselves until you’re decently proficient. Now drill with resistance to truly develop the muscle memory.
Do these 3 drills with you starting on the bottom:
    1. Start in the dog fight position. Your partner is trying to escape. You’re trying to sweep or take the back. Reset if they escape or you succeed. Repeat.
    2. Start on the bottom with you already having the underhook. Have the drill either to be only to get to your knees, or get to your knees and then sweep or take the back. Your partner's goal is to escape or pass. Reset if either succeed.
    3. Start without an underhook. You’re fighting to get one. They’re fighting to pass. Either reset if you get an underhook, or keep going the whole way. Either resetting when you get to your knees, or when you sweep or take the back.
Depending on your level of proficiency in jiu jitsu or the dog fight, 100% resistance from the top player may not be the best way to start the drill. Instead it may be best for them to slowly turn up the resistance as you go and become more proficient. You can dictate this by telling them how much resistance you want, or you can just let them gauge it.
If you have no time to drill in class which is often the case, ask a partner to do live drill this with you instead of rolling a round or two. You can live drill this with them too with you on top or ask them if they want to drill something else.

12:30 another option for the body lock, here you can step out with your far leg and place it where, once it’s planted, you drive them towards the back. driving towards the side is where their base is, but toward the back there is no base. it’s in the details though right, so head positioning, tight body lock, and heavy hip pressure all play a part.
i found sometimes if i drive towards the side, they can sweep me right back. drive toward the back though there is little to no momentum that they can generate to sweep me, and i usually end up in a good passing position.
this vid is great btw. it’s the bread and butter of where i train and i think you really nailed everything u covered. like you said there’s so many other options for this move.
edit: a must for this coyote or “leite guard”, u said it too, is the underhook.

As an older out of shape person I always thought dogfight was too much of a battle needing strength. If you are hesitant for those reasons please give it a try. I now can't recommend it enough. A while ago I started going for it and it is now one of my favorites. You just outlined nearly everything I spent the last 8 months figuring out. I sure wish I saw this 8 months ago! Hi Jordan... worked the knee flair in open mat this weekend. I normally play my 1/2 guard with my partner high up (like you show) or transition to deep half.
A couple times during rolls, my partner was pummelling for the far side underhook.... I used the Bernardo Faria type knee sheild (push-pull) to create space, went to a more standard knee sheild then flaired and went for the underhook.
Thanks again, It worked well and seems to create extra momentum.

Awesome instructional with amazing production value and so much information packed in to 17 mins. I just bought “Jordan teaches half guard” when it was on sale and I prefer the way Jordan breaks things down slowly in it but I miss the slick production from this UA-cam channel.

Love this - really well communicated instructional with great details! Also super appreciate the service in raising awareness about some of the knee exploding position - dogfight positions for example can easily punish a stubborn or reckless grappler; the knee torque can be devastating.

That was a ton of info and as a new white belt it's going to take me 30 or 40 watches to get some of this stuff down. =D
I know it's too late for *this* video of course, but for your next "how to do a system" tutorial, I feel like it might be more easily digestible (by people like me, anyway) if it's more cleanly broken up into a 3-part mini-series (getting you more like 3 videos for the effort of... say one and a half):
    1) how to [coyote guard]
    2) good/popular counters to someone attempting [coyote guard]
    3) Most reliable ways to counter the counters that you mentioned in #2 (or what to transition to instead if they seal it off, leaving some other opening)
The current incarnation of The Algorithm apparently prefers 2-3 videos per week and so I feel like this would be a win-win for you, but even if you hate my suggestion I'm going to keep watching your videos because they're killer.

Ya for sure. I totally get what you're saying. I actually knew this one wouldn't get a lot of views just based off the subject matter but I wanted to do it anyways and I like to be thorough lol. I'll try to make it feel better broken up next time. My pacing has definitely gotten better but there's always room for improvement 🙂
