What is BMW lying about? We drive the 2020 BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition to find out.
Yes, I know I've got a mistake in here about curb weight. It's there and there's nothing I can do about it now except fire our research assistant, and I don't think we want to do that.
Brian complaining about the tech, it could be simpler, but then it brings much on the table and is so much fun to have all of that :)
But different opinions are also interesting
I love the tech and it’s actually pretty easy to learn everything although it has much more then meets the eye :)
Love it
Oh, man. This was a long time ago. The funny thing is that they quickly moved on to the next generation tech and it’s massively improved.
If a racing driver likes handling and ride of a car, it means it rides like a rock!
No.
The Kerb Weight is 1980 kg 4365.15 lbs. Max. weight is 2440 kg 5379.28 lbs. You quoted max weight instead of kerb.
Curb weight is 4,450lbs which is still heavy but 5,300 gross weight is maximum weight with passengers and cargo.
I fired my research assistant.
Thanks for your review. I'm actually buying the car you drove in the video....Just sent them the deposit this morning and the car will arrive the dealership next week. Got a huge discount :)
Given what some of my colleagues did with it, you deserve a big discount! Great car. Enjoy. Be sure you get that paint coated or wrapped. It’s super soft.
Corona virus resistant I love it lol
@@jeffl1944 Pretty sure that's not an option.
Brian, between this and the AMG GT 63 S, which one do you feel has the best fun-to-drive factor? Thank you for this video?
Haven't driven the GT, wish I could comment. I *really* enjoyed the M8.
Please be sure and review the M5 CS when it comes out. THX!
Working on it, but 2020 seems to have other plans.
The curb weight listed on BMW USA'S website is 4480 LBS. Not the "over" 5300 LBS you mentioned in the video.
Thanks for reading the comments first!
This looks to be a non-competition M8, no M8 badging and chrome grill and exaust. The M8 Competition has everything blacked out including M8 badging all over the car and the center console.
This is a Competition.
The badging is missing but those wheels are competition exclusive. A bit odd, I’d demand the proper badging if this were mine, makes a big difference
Hold on are those yellow strips below front grill BMW’s take on Dodge Charger and challenger yellow strips?
I really like the 8 series coupe. Not sure we need a four door coupe and not sure why this is not called 6 series. If I could afford one, I would get one in coupe two door form with straight six. As is, my best goal in life is get a Dodge Challenger Scatpack which is the American version of a big coupe with manual I can at least hope to afford.
That’s my take on splitter guards. I put them on everything. Coincidentally, I’ve got a Challenger WB Scat Pack manual in for testing at the moment. Yes, there’s yellow tape on that one, too.
Brian you are the man, can’t wait for that video
There's already a review here from a year and a half ago at least, but I shot that one in California. It may be the best review we've ever done. This week's test is a completely different episode.
Wherre are the competition badges?
I asked the same question, no response from BMW. It is a Comp.
Hey Brian the car actually weighs 4380 pounds. Go to BMW website for specs on this particular model.
I don't know where that came from, but I may have to fire my research assistant. Gonna watch the deluge of people compelled to correct me.
That car is huge!
I’m only five feet tall, so it’s all relative.
I have an M8 and this not the competition , only the wheels are the competition wheels
The competition has black m8 comp badge, has black exhaust tips, black side vents and front kidney grill and in the interior it has small m8 comp badge in the center console and the seat belts has the M strip colors
In Canada, this is a Competition.
At 11min 20sec in the video, why the heck would you drive that beauty on that horrible road full of stones? Omg
OMG cars aren’t meant to be driven!
@@BrianMakse not on stones, you can easily brake the ceramic brakes with small stones getting inside, its not a terrain car and scratch the paint :)
700 HP for real
700 or more...
Correction 4480 pounds.
My mistake.
Its not 5300 lbs, more like 4500 lbs
Ugly registration plates.
I dont know if its the perfect car. Because the BMW M5 competition is better in my opinion. As fast, as technological, but also a better price.
So, price makes the M5 better?
@@BrianMakse Well when its the same car but 20k less, yes.
So, the same drivetrain makes it the same car?
@@BrianMakse Same engine, same chasis, same weight, same power, same idrive, same 1/4 mile, same track times so yes.
@@DexxonGamer77 Not the same weight, chassis calibrations, nor seating position. I'm guessing you haven't driven either of these cars.
Non -Competition model to many cues it’s not.
Not this again.
5300 pounds? Holy fat coupe Batman
Exactly. 617hp ain’t gonna move that quickly. Def 700+ hp.
