So they lost their umbrella because the wind blew it away somewhere, while they were trying to set up the balcony? Wish you guys captured that on camera
for plants on the balcony, make sure you put weight at the bottom of the pot before filling it with sand and plants, rocks or fitness weights that you don't use will do, depending on size and such you could strap it down. my sister lives in a penthouse in france (we are europeans btw) and has 2 palm trees on the balcony and it's windy af....the pot and the trees are strapped down no problem at all..does not budge at all! plenty of people do it, if you feel insecure about it...i recommend looking on the internet what people did to have a safe and enjoyable balcony garden!
And you could also put the pots to the wall where wind would push it anyway. And maybe opt for plants with small leaves like lavender or decorative grass, so the leaves wont get ripped apart. You could also tie a little pot to the umbrella stand.. at least that one can't fly away.
Plant guy here: Wind normally doesn't matter. If you're unsure about it, just buy sturdier plants for the windy balcony. (You should also consider the amount of sunlight the plants get on the balconies and the amount of water they need... Herbs like basil need to be watered daily and need sunlight but not too much of it; plants like oleander don't need that much water and sunlight...) If you're unsure, just look up facts about the plants on the internet or ask the employees working there :) Edit: Of course you'll have to secure the plants (especially if they're a bit smaller) so that they don't get blown over ^^
There was a windy day once where I live and it knocked over two of my plant pots dumping all the seeds on the ground and all the sprouts that were in the pot died.
Bmorecrafty I think that the umbrella was open it was carried away and plant are much more heavier than that but for a person that has the same problem of having windy balcony if it storm heavy and the plants have no proper support the plants will fall down for my experience
She can brag if she wants to! She’s earned bragging rights. No one needs to be humble to make ur insecure feel better and at ease. YOU boss up and match up.
I do like how she doesn't do the flexing thing too. It's a nice apartment and was giving a lovely tour around. Like a friend on a chatroom call showing you around.
OK, Aki. Plant-rant: Of course you can have plants in windy areas! Make sure they're pottet in firmly, so they dont get ripped from their pots and get bottom heavy plants rather then tall tree-like plants). It looks like the walls all around are high enough to have plants in some cover from the wind as well. Maybe have a google what kind of outdoor plants like that sort of stuff. Apart from all that - trial and error is a big part about being a plant parent - Happy planting and dont give up
velcro is an easy fix for the cushions blowing around, but i think whenever the umbrella decides to come home the only real option is to put it away when you're not using it
Lol, "Decides to come home". That's adorable. They're going to find it blown down to the street one day, wandering around lost and confused and like a parent, will gently carry it back home. AND THEN NEVER LET IT OUT AGAIN.
I love how Aki keeps saying "If you do stay here" while pointing out all the comfortable sleeping arrangements. Mom-inviting-you-to-come-over-for-dinner-vibes indeed. But that's probably just a sign how comfortable she feels in her new home. Congratulations! I hope you make a lot of happy memories :-)
There are more places like this if you dont mind living outside of Tokyo, and faraway from the central zones! Its in those places that you only find tiny apartment due to the volume of people that live there.
It's easier and more common to find bigger spaces like these if you move a bit further out of Tokio Plus they probably have a higher budget than most normal people
Omedetou on the gorgeous and cozy apartment! I’m currently refurnishing our home and our design style are so similar. Our styling choice is slowly changing too, more mature oh definitely. Less frills, more function and solid. And yes to frosted window film! We have a huge bay window facing the street and now we can enjoy opening it all the way after it’s frosted.
Regarding plants on the big balcony: smallish trees or thin planters of bamboo rows, in concrete pots, would be a pretty solid idea to set up near the edge of the balcony where most of the wind comes from. It offers a nice green touch and would help break the wind, leaving you with a better setup for more plants/filming. Smaller trees should be strong enough to withstand the wind and bamboo is flexible enough to be able ti handle it too. Congrats on the place, it looks awesome!
bamboo is wind and forst resistant, this is a great idea! Just need to prune them regularly. But I don't know anything about bamboo in pots, but will have to be very heavy pots.
I was going to suggest this too. Bamboo is also very easy to grow (more plants!) if you got large (I'm talking bench-sized) rectangular planters and filled the bottom with concrete, using pvc to create drainage holes, then potting soil on top, this would probably work the best to withstand the wind.
@Jesus Gonzalez OK calm down jesus.... It's weird how you went to Japan and loved it but the only thing that got your eyes enough for you to comment on it is their "females" it's a country not a zoo
Don't you remember when we were all kids? Watching all the UA-camrs my age grow over the years is almost bittersweet. These people! With their _functional_ lives, and no prison time. Sheesh... So getting that out of my system, I am genuinely happy for y'all.
This is an apartment where I'd be happy to spend the rest of my life at. It's really spacious and those two balconies are the best part of it for sure! I'm so happy for you and Joey!
This might sound boring, but if I had a windy balcony like that I’d set up a corner for hanging laundry XD But maybe you could put up some screens or simular to make it less vindy? And if you’re looking for plants to put there I’d suggest different types of decorative grasses. They can handle it and also sounds nice when the wind blows.
Wind is really good at drying laundry but ever since I was a little kid I always got paranoid about hanging up laundry when it’s windy. I was nervous that the wind would rip my clothes off the clothes lime and carry them away. We once ended up with our neighbours trampoline in our garden so it didn’t seem like a far fetched idea.
A tip about the automatic trash can: turn it towards the wall. Its inconvenient only when you have something larger to go in, but keeps it from getting set off all the time.
For the plants you could try using a small to medium sized green house (it depends on how much space you have on your balcony) as a way to keep your plants from getting knocked over. Another way is that you could also put rocks in the bottom of your pot then the soil on top as well as a way to help weigh down the pot.
I wish my balcony and bathtub were that big and nice. It's wonderful to see all your hard work over the years paying off for you! If that rubber plant is anything like the ones my Mom had it won't fit in that planter for long. You did a really great job decorating, too. On the plants and balcony, remember to leave yourself room to bring them in during winter.

imagine if aki had a baby they'd already have a room for him right next to them aaaa thats so cute I'm so happy for you Aki!! This place is giving the best vibes
simple solution to the wind issue is concrete and cardboard simply make some concrete weights for your plant pots or concrete shoes for your chairs the concrete will keep them weighed down enough to keep them from blowing over provided there wide enough and heavy enough
Get a net to cover your big balcony it will stop things from leaving, but you still get all the fresh air and sun, also get some rope and carabiners so you can tie everything down when stormy season starts in september.
Trash Can: OMG HI Aki: dude, so thirsty, chill. EDIT: With the 'toy chest' I've seen a few people make a seat cushion to go on top to use it as a reading bench, they're so versatile.
In terms of plants for your bigger balcony, I use all stone/dense pottery pots for all outdoor plants of mine because of strong storms with heavy winds!! And depending on the plant that you're using, you can pack the pot fairly full with soil so it adds some weight to the pot and wont let it blow away, or even tip over! :))

Another way is that you could also put rocks in the bottom of your pot then the soil on top as well as a way to help weigh down the pot.

Not only the whole house looks aesthetically match well together, the color of Aki's hair and outfit also very fit in with the house... XD
Now whenever someone says go touch some grass, she can literally do that without leaving her house
simple solution to the wind issue is concrete and cardboard simply make some concrete weights for your plant pots or concrete shoes for your chairs the concrete will keep them weighed down enough to keep them from blowing over provided there wide enough and heavy enough

It was Chris Broad wasn't a it? :p
I suspected Connor, since Chris can hide his alcohol tolerance pretty well , butt his made me laugh XD
My money is also on Connor tbh 😂🤣
Did anyone else notice that Aki’s lighting setup makes it look like she has little white hearts in her eyes?
So adorable ☺️

Man I wish I could have a cool apartment like this when I grow up!!
Same. An apartment like this one in JAPAN (probably in the center of the city/near the city center) would be my dream come true.

Lol me too!

Get a net to cover your big balcony it will stop things from leaving, but you still get all the fresh air and sun, also get some rope and carabiners so you can tie everything down when stormy season starts in september.
Joey dream had come true like an manga character! lol every ecchi scene! Joey: I didn’t know you was in the bath ?
Aki: really?! Like reaaaasllly!
Yooo, it's so lit to be seeing Mama Aki's new crib!
Trash Can: OMG HI
Aki: dude, so thirsty, chill.
The living room is so simple and adorable and calming like it’s perfect for a house omg lol
Thats one of the roomiest apartments I've seen in Japan so far. I'm so happy for you guys, you've worked so hard and deserve such a wonderful place. Honestly the whole place is my favorite, it's somewhere I'd personally pick to live in too. Super cozy while providing ample space for activities 😄
Congrats on the new place guys!
You deserve it! You both have put in so much time and effort in creating enjoyable content for us weebs and I'm sure I am not the only one who is thankful for allowing us some insight into your lives which creates so much happiness in ours!!
You worked so hard guys, well deserved. Well deserved *VERY LOUD slow clapping*

You guys have made it in life. I'm really happy you're all settled and secured for the future. I hope to someday emulate the same success you have and build my life the way yours ended up as: happy and satisfied. You're an inspiration to me, Aki. More power to you guys! ♥️
Joey loves building things and Aki loves interior designing...there's a future for you guys after anitubing if you'll be pursuing it. Love what you did with your pad. 👌
Japan really does a lot of things amazingly well. The fact that they set up your TV stuff the same way. Just omg amazing.
Not gonna lie, this whole place looks fantastic. I can only hope that the next time I move I can find something as nice as this
On a scale of Koala to IKEA how difficult is it to put this stuff together.
