    you can take this sap from the hedge apple dehydrate it at about 140° into a paste mix it with smashed up green wild plantain that works good for mild cuts and insect bites and bee stings just by applying it over the area recommended two or three times a day I have also used it as an insect repellent but come to find out it doesn't work very good for spiders you can also use the oil from the Hedge Apple leaves and fruit as a flying insect repellent I don't know if anyone else has done this but I have myself it works pretty good for camping trips better than most insect sprays you Buy in the stores you just have to try this remedy for yourself but I am going to say that there is a possibility that some people could have a allergic reaction as with anything you use

    My first thought when you said latex was to chop it up boil it down and extract that actual latex and see what you can do if you refine the stuff

    Hello I'm new to your channel. We have hedge apples here in Kansas and I've always been told they were poisonous. Well I'd probably disagree. I've heard this about them. People eat them for cancer and they actually do look like a cancer cell. I'm not a doctor but I can tell you this. I picked one up washed it, wrapped it in a newspaper and froze it. I took it out of the freezer and shredded a bit off the outside of it and ate it about a teaspoon, my husband about flipped watching me LOL. It reminds me of a kiwi and watermelon cross in taste, I was surprised. I know I shouldn't have but I did.

      It’s my understanding that the seeds are edible, but the flesh still has the ability to irritate people who are sensitive to latex, so it’s probably not a great idea to consume it in large quantities. The seeds are perfectly edible but by the time you harvest enough to make a meal out of it you have wasted a lot of time. Hopefully your experience afterward wasn’t too too bad.

I have to admit I’m surprised pigs won’t eat them though. I kind of thought pigs could eat just about anything

    Yeah the Osage Indians used to make bows out of it, and they were very feared for their archery prowess among the other tribes. It's somewhat difficult to get a stave with the right grain. But it's good wood for making miscellaneous items out of because it's tough and attractive. You don't need to stain it. The most interesting thing about this tree I think is the following. There used to be SOME type of animal that used to eat that fruit so as to disperse the seeds. That is why plants produce fruit -- to appeal to some animal. Something was running around eating those things, but is now extinct. I wonder just what that animal was. Some kind of ground sloth? A prehistoric rhino? Just what?

    So, this is a cool video. I had one of these trees at my school as a kid. I always wondered what it was. What I read on the internet was that latex could be used and an alternative coagulant for making farm cheese as opposed to rennet. Fig shoots and milkweed also contain lots of latex. I've never tried it, so do your own research. I did not know that it was a bug repellant.

    • @wolfinthewildssurvival2765
      @wolfinthewildssurvival2765  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the kind words. Of all my videos I think this is the one I get the most negative comments on, so it’s nice for a positive one here and there. That’s very interesting piece of information about latex being used to coagulate cheese, and I will certainly look into that as soon as I have more time. Thank you very much for that.

    I know that flying squirrels will eat the seeds of this fruit. I lived in DC area, northern Virginia, and left some of these fruits in my woods, and at night something comes out and eats them. I used a live trap to figure out that it was flying squirrels.

As far as a good bow wood Osage is one of best (also the highest BTU output of all N American hardwood) there is no best bow wood, some are favored more than most,the most important thing is ,bow wood is design specific

    You may want to know your subject matter a little better before making your videos. Hedge (the wood) are VERY good for fence posts, the thorns, which are very nasty can be made into needles and (the wood) is really the best you can use in a woodstove or fireplace. You better be ready, though, it makes a VERY hot fire. But it lasts a good long time and reduces itself to a fine ash....

      I recently learned what causes cancer and most other diseases, ingested animal fats and proteins. It's so simple but most people don't know this or have no desire to believe that humans are meant to be herbivores. A few years ago at age 50, I was one of them but now my arteries are clean of plaque and my cancer symptoms are gone.

And hey, please don’t be put off by the arrogant comment of that Egg head dude. Knowledge intimidates some people Dave. How you can be negative to someone’s sharing the wealth of knowledge? Geez. Anyway, I too noticed the new camp coat - good choice against this particular backdrop too. Those toxic green splatters blended right in! Czech huh!! Glad to see this vid my brother, keep em comin. We still workin on the portable basecamp? I might be able to use one. I’ll email the application I’m referencing. Great job as usual

      Brook Eggleston A better video camera with a decent microphone wind is definitely something that I would like to have. Unfortunately it’s not quite in my budget, and my UA-cam channel would have to grow substantially in order for me to justify being able to do that. Nevertheless I appreciate the comment, and I have bought a pop up shelter to put the camera in. Hopefully that will be enough for now.
