- Learn to embrace the challenges of life the way a downhill skeleton racer hits a wall when out of control, says Courtney. Relax, embrace the hit. Don’t steer away from the pain. Listen to the Lord.
While training to compete in the Olympics as a skeleton racer, Courtney learned there is nothing to protect the racer from the hard ice when careening out of control. “You hit an ice wall that feels like cement,” she said.
At those moments, a trainer taught her, when heading out of control into a curve, instead of steering away or flinching for the impact, learn to relax, sink into the curve, embrace the hit. As a result, he said, you set yourself up for a smoother impact and a better result coming out of the curve.
Embracing the hit has application in life, Courtney says. She shares several experiences in her life when she was broadsided with calamities she never saw coming and how learning to embrace those situations aided her in discovering the Lord’s hand in her life.
She said she found herself on her knees praying to Heavenly Father-wrestling for relief from the pain and hurt. “I felt like I was paddling in the deepest ocean and slowly drowning,” she said.
In response and over time, she learned to listen to the Lord. He showed her how to give her burden to Him and how to love others, even strangers. “All these things shall give thee experience,” she kept hearing in her soul.
“As I learned to embrace the hit, I learned that the greater the challenge, the greater the capacity for joy,” she says. “Trials are essential in order to experience the brightness of joy.”
While we may not know what Heaven is doing, she says, “He is precisely aware.”

I've been avoiding this video for a while because the title was so intense and I'm in the midst of embracing my own hit and I cry easily. I finally got the courage to watch it and I'm glad I did. Thank you for sharing such a vulnerable story with the world. Let's keep embracing our hits. I feel it takes embracing many hits to become like our Heavenly parents. I've learned that keeping my covenants means that all my suffering is purposeful and instructive but I've also learned that even if I bring on my own suffering as a result of mistakes I make, if I offer it into the Lord, he can turn it into something instructive. Its such an incredible freeing truth.

It helps me to think of instructive suffering as "Graduate courses in the University of Life," and suffering I bring on myself due to sins or mistakes as "Extra Credit Courses" that I sign up for. I need them all. They're all there to help me. Heavenly Father lovingly sent us earth (aka: University of Life) to LEARN...And He is not wasting ANYBODY'S tuition!!!! ......Aren't we lucky to have a loving, all-powerful, all-knowing and perfect father?! We can trust Him not to waste any of our suffering. He's awesome.

Marci, Lord has forgiven you if you made mistake, I have many big mistakes. I died but was brought back to life in an ambulance (sorry i saw nothing when i was dead) but maybe the good Lord said i wont show you this life of heaveen via your suicide. I'm 76 years old and I've spent my life hitting the wall and getting up and changing the course. This wonderful message and presentation has touched my heart. Life is sometimes to much for me! Mom stress is unbearable, losing kid's to Satan is harder than mortals can handle! All I have ever wanted was alined with God, but these things seem that they are so far away from me now! I have already been waiting more than ten years for the miracles to come! 🙏🏻God help us all!

I am so thankful for videos like these...real stories, real lessons and REAL INSPIRATION. So relatable but such a lovely perspective on trusting in the Lord during our trials. Trials WILL come and as we embrace the hit, we rely on the mercies of the Saviour.

That's incredible! Some days feel like a blessing some days feel like a curse but if we look for the Lord's hand in our life we will know that everything is to bless us and increase our capacity to better understand and bless others with what we have gone through. And if for no other reason to prove to ourselves we can do hard things with the Lord's help and we will be blessed for our efforts. Because the lord loves effort!
I heard someone once describe going through a challenge as a noble wrestle. I can't think of anything more noble than wrestling through the hard things with our Savior - He never fails us and we always come out on top when we choose to see His hand in our lives. Thanks for sharing your testimony!

What a beautiful message!! I've had many trials as well, ones that you'd only see in horror movies or in your worst nightmare. Thank you for sharing such a personal experience. Your words have touch my heart. My wife and I experienced a miscarriage 10 years ago. We were devastated. But as we look back and see the hand of the Lord in our lives, we know he was with us every step of the way. We have been blessed with a baby girl 10 years later. We may not understand the Lord's timing, but I testify that His timing is perfect.

I watched this video and sobbed at certain points. I have been running from the same problem for years and it has recently taken over everything in my life. It's all I can think about and my heart aches from the pain on a daily at this point. This video has given me inspiration to face my problems head on. to know that It may even hurt worse to deal with the problem at first, but I will be a better man in so many ways by being honest and truthful with myself and the ones I love. WOW, I really needed to see this. This one hit me in some way especially with all I'm struggling with in my life. Coming back to church and even going thru the temple has saved my life (in my eyes) but the constant hits that have come upon me since doing so have indeed been hard to embrace especially when I know that Satan in trying his damned best to steer me of the track straight and narrow path I'm trying my best to stay on. This video gives me hope that thru Christ I can overcome all the struggles and challenges I face in life and everyday if I just keep trying and never give up and continue to pray daily and read/study the scriptures to seek guidance and direction from our Heavenly Father.
