A lot of people have said I am biased towards the older toys, and yeah I'm a bit biased towards em. But I do like newer toys, you saw the shelf I have a lot of em. But these three specific examples I like the old ones more. Probably should have added that in the video but hindsight is 20/20. Lol. Hope that clears that up

For me, my first and favorite toy line was DOTM as in my opinion, some of them gave the definitive version of the character like sideswipe or ratchet. Never got the studio series version of these characters bc I saw no need, unfortunately I was too young to realize just how good generations figures were bc I didn’t know anything about g1 and when I came to, I realized what a good line I missed.

  • @iodaspark

Dang, you really nailed it in many aspects, man! The newer figures merely give the illusion of fun. That's the truth. (They often lose their charm in a couple of hours.)
Furthermore, Kup & Wheeljack also had C-Clip tech; while Red Alert was multi-presentable, over and above 5-mm compatibility & integrated weapon storage in both modes. (Clearly, the older designers were simply more passionate, man!)
PS. Was there since the very beginning of Classics, then Henkei (2006 onwards).

I own pritty much all the current and generation and G1 figures . When I look back when I collected generations Red Alert , Wheeljack ect there was always this feeling in the fandom we loved them but we just wanted what was in the cartoon . Now we are getting that and I have to say IV not had any real QC issues ect with any of them I'm pritty much happy (if anything I'm looking at my masterpiece collection and wondering if I'll sell some lol) but the other side effect from getting what you want is now I can relax and appreciate the generations figures alot more as there not my definitive rendition of that character and I love playing with them alot more . Keep up the good work btw love your content 🙂

I have a bit of a sad story. That Generations Wheeljack was the first Generations figure I ever got as a kid. When I first unboxed it, it immediately became my favorite Transformer and I played with it all the time. Then literally after only two weeks of having that figure, I took it with me to my grandparents and played with it in the sand and the gears got jammed. It wouldn't transform anymore so I had to get rid of it. Then when Earthrise Wheeljack came out, I was obsessed with getting that figure to refill the void my last Wheeljack left in my life. It was a decent figure, but sadly, it didn't fully live up to my expectations. Although looking back at the original, I would say the ER version at least looks better to me, but I still miss the OG alot

    Great comparison!
Autobot cars are a real mixed bag on old VS new. I swapped out old Red Alert for the new one, but I kept old Sideswipe. I really like that mold, but it really fits SS more than RA, even though I have a 3rd party head and shoulder cannon to make him look more like himself. Since I kept SS I ket Sunstreaker. The new ones yellows looked bad in person, so it was a pass.
The Prowl bros all got swapped out since I hate the old mold. In theory it's okay, but the pain on Bluestreak and Prowl is just terrible and dirty looking, even when it was new.
Ratchet and Ironhide were both replaced, but the new ones aren't that great either. I bought 3P feet for them. I hear Studio is supposed to have both of them eventually, so maybe I wasted my money. Even with the replacement feet they aren't great sincei hate the way the windows work (some being clear with most not even painted on).
I like the looks of the old Trailbreaker and Hoist more, but they're just too small. Sometimes size matters.
I kept RtS Wheeljack over the new one. I like his look more overall. But I did get Exhaust. I appreciate how clean the transformation is.
I have Classics Mirage. I know his look is divisive, but I still love it. So fun to transform. Not replaced. But I did get Netflix Mirage since I love his colors. I still prefer the Classics one, though.
I got United Jazz and the Studio one and, although I appreciate it, the old one is just better to me. In every way. The deco isn't even right on the Studio one; if I was committed to him I'd have to reprolabel him.
I did replace Tracks. I like the look of the new one, despite those feet. Maybe it's longevity is in question, but I dunno. For him (and not WJ) I think the old looks is beaten out.
Still like the old Hound. I hear he was controversial even back in the day, but I still like his look.
Still, I gotta say, the Decepticons have really won the day when it comes to new toys. Only Astrotrain is a stinker.

And I love that those toys were only inspired by g1 and look diferent like having modern car modes and body design, and movie verse is special part cause they looks amazing, many people hate them because they looks like insects, but they don't get and stupidly enough they won't get it transformers are suppose to be aliens, and if I want to see unreal characters to seems real like they probably exist in universe somewhere they won't looks like boxy japanese toys from 80's

That was the point of the entire war for cybertron series, to give us updated figures of character's original G1 design. They've taken liberties with perverting character designs since G2 and before siege the only G1 accurate figures were masterpiece styled. It is inevitable that they will go back to their perversion of the G1 designs they call 'Generations.' Look at Legacy

It’s definitely true that 2008-2011 was the Golden Age of Transformers designs. But today’s the best age of G1 remakes, ever. Unfortunately they can’t make toys like they used to. Although, I love both of those Kups. The first one was an amazing militant redesign while the 86 one feels exactly like the animation model. Sure, its arms come off easily but is otherwise perfect. I don’t own the siege Sideswipe mold or Earthrise Wheeljack mold, but both of the originals definitely seem more fun and both the new ones feel like dulled down MP figures, which I already own. I’d personally love to see both design philosophies again side by side, like it was for the Thrilling Thirty toyline.

Late to the party, but my two cents. I recently got back into collecting transformers and I’m having a bit of a conflict with this same issue. Many of the new designs are gorgeous, but stale at the same time. They’re almost mini masterpieces of the cartoon figures and that’s cool, but I miss the “new take on old characters” thing that the old classics and universe 2.0 lines did. BUT, at the same time the reason I got out of collecting was because the old classics line felt hit and miss. Some figures like classics bumblebee and universe sergeant Kup were amazing - some of my favorite transformers of all time - but then others came out… janky as hell. I personally was very disappointed with generations Wheeljack, and mine is now a floppy mess with almost every joint loose and I have barely touched it in years.

I like BOTH eras, for all the reasons you mentioned, BUT there are also things I dislike about both, as you said...
I like the older G3 Wheejack (&Tracks) MORE than the modern versions. I have upgrade kits for the modern Wheeljack, which definitely improve him greatly, especially in bot mode, but I hate that weird looking alt mode shape, especially the front end...! He looks NOTHING like the Lancia body style from G1, not even close. Sad to say, but even the CW Wheeljack alt mode was better (but NOT bot mode, lol, hated those CW hips!!). The older G3 just looks BETTER in car mode, like a sports car SHOULD look, NOT like a weird wedge on wheels...🤔
I also did a custom modification to the older figure, to bring the wings in closer on his shoulders, so he isn't so dang wide, and THAT little fix makes me like the figure SO MUCH MORE!! Since I picked up an extra couple of those Wheeljack figures to be customized, I think I'll take the missile launcher from an extra, and give it to my modified one...
There's ANOTHER modification for that older G3 mold, that can be done for Tracks, to make him just slightly taller. That helps differentiate them more in bot mode, WITHOUT altering their vehicle modes.
I like both Red Alerts, though I only have Siege and G3 versions since I'm STILL waiting for the Walgreens Exclusive version to show up in stores here... The drawback of the older G3 version, is the lack of a black panel to close up the lower legs for a more G1 look in bot mode. I THINK I got the Beezleboss(?) Upgrades for him and Sideswipe, so I opted for the red head sculpt.
For the Siege Red Alert (AND Sideswipe, etc., etc., etc.,...) I got the weapons and especially the spoiler kits to upgrade, and man, are they sweet additions to those Lambos!
Kup... Well, let's face it, even as a kid, I hated that dumb@$$ spacewedge truck mode... Looks more like the sled that launches out from the GI Joe Killer Whale vehicle, than any kind of useful looking vehicle...😅😅😅
So, giving the older G3 an Earthmode vehicle, that looked like a classic pick-up truck was just great... I imagined it as his choice of vehicles to stay on earth after the cartoons ended, to keep an eye on things, and sort of retired, but practicing long range shooting instead of closer combat, with that new sniper rifle...
The new version... BETTER than G1, but STILL a sucktacular vehicle design, BUT ALSO accurate to source material, WHICH IS the point, as are the removable limbs from the movie scene. I'm NOT SURE, but I might like the TR Kup better except for the headmaster bit... Everybody complains about the new Kup, but he's not really THAT bad. All-around I do like the modern Kup, AND he fills that movie slot nicely... Especially fighting off the 40 Sharkticons I have to swarm him and Grimlock & company...!
I think the Earthmode truck gives THAT figure the edge though.

I really wish Earthrise/Kingdom Wheeljack had just found a way to make the windshield a solid piece instead of having the front end split and fold into the legs. Being clear plastic rings clipped over a thick mushroom peg, they have a tendency to break over time. Even if they'd just redesigned the peg to be smaller and the rings made of thicker plastic, it would be less prone to breakage, but the whole system makes the bottom of his chest inaccurate while also putting weird gaps on his shins.
    PAIN.
And Siege and Kingdom Mirage both beat the snot out of Classic Mirage, whose miniscule waist joint and hips have a tendency to go floppy very quickly. Never mind that they both just look so much better as F1 cars. They really didn't need to remold Siege Mirage for Kingdom anyway, they could have just recolored the clear plastic solid and it would have been nearly perfect. I don't know why they changed it so much, especially getting rid of the shoulder port.

I also prefer fresh takes, but isn't this also the first time they've made highly accurate g1 figures in the mainline? I could be wrong, but I think every other time has been an homage rather than an actual attempt to recreate what we see onscreen with modern tech. I say let them have it, I'll be happy as long as I get some interesting figures.
My favorite era is probably rotf / hftd too. I feel like they really hit their stride with movie toys or (even better) movie-like toys. Original designs that were not limited by a model made for the screen, yet still had the engineering and aesthetic.

No, not really... Before you continue whining about G1, consider the fact that WITHOUT G1, there'd be NO G2, NO BW/BM, NO RiD, NO Unicron Trilogy, NO Bayformery movie $#!t, NO Animated, NO Prime, No Cyberverse, NO Rescue Bots, NO NOTHING... JUST Gobots probably...
So go ahead and do your whining & complaining about G1, but while you do that, JUST remember that if the rest of US G1 fans weren't buying and demanding the bulk of the TF stuff Hasbro produces... YOU and others LIKE YOU, couldn't get ANY of the figures from series' YOU prefer, at ALL, because for the most part, there's NOT enough of YOU to support entire lines, WITHOUT US putting OUR money down too...
I'm not a G2 OR a BW/BM fan AT ALL, but I don't go around whining about Hasbro producing THOSE figures for fans of those lines to enjoy, because they took up slots that COULD have been used for a deserving G1 update figure... Do you know WHY?
For ONE, I'm not a selfish whiner, and I actually LIKE it when OTHER people get some figures from lines THEY enjoy. If I don't like them, I don't have to buy them, but I don't whine about them getting something I DON'T care for myself. Also, if it's a cool figure that maybe I wouldn't normally like, I can buy one too, if I want.
Secondly, even if I DON'T LIKE a particular TF line, I STILL respect where it came from (G1) and what it represents, with the potential to be something really good... Even that Bay crap, which I hate watching and 97% of the toys, occasionally has some good stuff.
Basically, it begins AND ends with G1, whether anyone likes it or not. That's just how it is.
Constantly whining around about it doesn't do YOU, or anyone else, any good, BUT IT does annoy people, like that constantly buzzing around in your face little gnat during the summer... JUST saying.
Learn to appreciate, or at least develop some respect for certain things, instead of whining relentlessly about them. You'll be a lot happier in life. ALSO, THIS IS A HOBBY, learn to ENJOY it!!! Don't let it control your life.
For the record, as I mentioned, I'm NOT a G2 OR BW/BM fan, BUT when Hasbro produces a GOOD updated (G3) figure derived from those lines, I buy it. I've bought several of the BW inspired Kingdom figures this past year, ALONG WITH those G1/G1 Movie updated figures, and I look forward to hopefully picking up some 2001 RiD inspired update figures for my collection, as I still have MOST of the figures from that line, but would love G3 versions... Same with G2, Unicron Trilogy, etc.,
Stop whining about things and just ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE... Eventually, they'll produce what you want. 😉😅😅

I personally think that we're actually in one of the best moments of transformers right now. The thing that really has made all the WFC trilogy that great to me is the coherence in scale and styling, and the fact that we now have a minimum standard articulation. Of course the plastic is nothing compared to the materials they used to implement in the beginning of the line, but in comparison to what we've gotten in the last 10 years, now the plastic is in an acceptable degree. Another thing that I really consider an improvement is the engineering becoming ultra efficient, making the toys more intuitive while giving space por good articulation. The mayor downside has to be how irregular the QC has gotten, that's the big reason I try to keep me away from Studio series, even I do like the designs, but the geewan stuff and Beastwars too have been so far pretty solid.
Now in terms of design, I do think the re imagining factor was great, but after re-imagining the designs tons of times in every single sub line, having some stuff closer to the source material was good too. Of course I really miss the old quality plastic and the separation of the clear to the solid plastic, but I do believe that the more clever engineering going on right now really makes up for the lacking points.
Now I'm really concerned about the pricing, but is more because how stupidly expensive the dollar in my county has been in the last years goddamnit

    Okay, THANK YOU.
I’ve recently been looking to pad out my G1 ‘modern’ collection. Up until now I’d really only stuck to heavy IDW-centric stuff. (Gen Magnus, Springer, Skids, that sorta stuff!)
But now I wanted to get the full cast. Wheeljack, Sideswipe, Tracks, .. and in choosing… I went with the ‘CHUG’ era ones. Like when looking to get a new Wheeljack (which just arrived today) I went with the Generations one. Someone asked me ‘why not just get the newest ones?’ And I couldn’t quite explain why I didn’t really love the look n feel of the new ones, but you hit the nail on the head. It’s about the quality, the heft, the feel. And in large part still also it’s simply because of aesthetic. The ‘older’ CHUC stuff just had more visually interesting designs and most importantly it had the most fun transformations. New ones feel too simplified. They’re effective, that’s for sure. But I love the creativity of the old ones, that would impact the robot mode more substantially.

Not sure this video was at all necessary. The new toys are objectively more show accurate and toon accurate, and many would argue (including myself) that we’re currently in the golden age of TF generations toys. But none of that matters because you very rarely look at these things with a proper eye because you’re so obsessed with the older toys. Which is totally fine, to each their own, but it doesn’t make for a good video concept when everyone following your channel knows no matter what you’ll choose old toys. I think the newer lines have definitely made their quality and standards in terms of transformation and articulation more consistent, but that means you get less stand out figures. The older lines to me, were a bit all over the place. You'd get some incredible figures, but others were just ok. Some of the newer stuff just feels like a mini masterpiece though. Vehicle mode has lots of style but not enough to make up for the robot. Old Red Alert looks like a G1 repaint on Unicron Trilogy. Ot a bad thing, but paint him blue and watch him pop.i do agree with you on Kup. The old Generations mold is a vast improvement. He looks like a pick up and he looks like a grizzled vet who has a war story for every occasion. I'd go: Earthrise Wheeljack, Kingdom Red Alert for G1 and old Red Alert for Unicron Trilogy, and Generations/Thrilling 30 for Kup.

I think it all really depends on one’s priorities. I used to be the guy who would have gotten all 3 Kups. Nowadays I’d probably only get one, maybe two considering the uniqueness of the 2012 version. Though I’d probably go with the Titans Return Kup as opposed to the Studio Series, G1 accurate enough for my taste while still being a well built figure!
Typically, my first priority is a functional and good looking robot mode, what that look is doesn’t matter. What does matter is how that figure looks among other figures (ex: Cliffjumper has to be the same height as Bumblebee; the Seekers all need to be the same mold; etc). Matching aesthetic is also important to me. Not to say that a Cybertron mold doesn’t have a place on my Generations shelf, but sitting Botcon Scourge next to Kingdom Cyclonus doesn’t look right to me. So a lot of times I get a lot of newer figures because of their more unified aesthetic.
