We know how well paid pilots are. The salaries are amazing and so are the perks.
Since Jet Airways shut down, I thought why not show you guys, as a part of this being upfront about things series, my actual salary slips!
Salary varies from airline to airline and also on the aircraft model you are flying but some rough figures are
At the starting of your carrier you mostly fly an Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 and you fly as a junior first officer
For a junior first officer- 1.1 lakh-1.5 lakh
Then you become a first officer after completing approximately 700-800 hours which is completed in about 10-12 months
For a first officer- 3-3.3 lakhs
Then you become a senior first officer after approximately 2-2.5 years (This usually depends on the airline. If your airline is growing and has many aircrafts on order, they need pilots so they promote you quickly)
For a senior first officer- 4-4.5 lakhs per month
Then you are promoted to captain in a Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 depending on the airline.
For a captain- 6.3-7 lakhs per month
By this time you begin to prepare for a type rating of a larger aircraft like Airbus A330, Boeing 777 or Boeing 787
Again you'll have to start with being a first officer then senior first officer and then a captain in the bigger aircraft. But obviously the pay for being a first officer is more in the twine aisle larger plane. You are paid more than 7 lakh INR
But once you become captain in the larger aircraft which takes about 10-12 years after joining the company your salary is more than 8 lakhs and can even touch 10 lakhs for captains of Boeing 787 or 777
On top of it if your airline is making profits then they announce bonus. Plus in low cost carriers you get unlimited free tickets etc etc. To live a good upper middle class life a salary of pilot is enough but not enough to buy a Mercedes-Benz S class or BMW 7 series.
All these salaries are in INR per month and are before taxes. In India you have to pay income tax of approximately 30%. So you have to take that into account too.

The basic salary is the actual salary.
Arrears means balance due from the company. House rent allowance (HRA) is for house rent and is taken as income if you do not have a house on rent.
Uniform allowance is for uniform and it's maintainence.
Telephone allowance is for mobile expenses.
Special pay is bonus maybe it's diwali bonus.
Coming towards PF, PF is actually a fixed percentage of your basic salary every month.

The exemption under section 10 is for gratuity. Chapter VIA is a provision where you can show certain expenses you have made which will be deducted. Eg. LIC,PPF, PF, FD interest and lots other.

The form 16 on the right is TDS certificate where the tax deducted by company will be displayed. The tax deducted will be credited to your 26 A.S. portal in Income Tax website which is tin.nsdl
And it has the final computation of your income and expenses and deductions.
At third last line, it is the actual payable tax by which the tax already paid is deducted and then you have the tax which is remaining to pay.

I Have been serving in charitable hospitals in anesthesia and critical care services for the past 5 yrs and presently serving covid patients. I receive a very nominal pay of 50,000 per month which I am very satisfied and happy with, so when I see people publishing their lavish salaries it aches me to see mass media and so many people generalize their opinion about hospitals just wanting to steal money from poor patients.

I have a first class Master's degree, an MPhil and a PhD apart from numerous publications.22 years of studying.I'm only getting 94k per month as an assistant professor in a Govt aided college 🤣. But I do understand flying a commercial aircraft is an extremely high stress job so pilots do deserve every penny they get.🙏

My dad was with jet airways as a senior aircraft engineer and hadnt been paid for 7 months straight and ws working till the end, even after the planes were grounded. Jet airways has given lots of privileges but its downfall has affected so many people. I hope we all stay strong in these tough times.

I really wanted to be pilot since my childhood, hence I tried NDA but failed. Then me and father went to flying school at 2008. We didn't know the fees structure and all. When guy at flying school said 18 lacs fees without taxes. I got very sad & I saw my dream collapse in front of me, as a middle class it was not possible for us to pay fees like that. Then I decided one day in my life I'll atleast take ppl license
and I'll fly for sure. Don't know when though. Currently I'm working in TCS & just for love of flying I have flown in 2 seater glider as well as highest point of paragliding in India too. ☺️

Section 10 means income is exempt on which no tax will levy.. Chapter vi-A means deductions from salary like 80c pf payment. These deductions decrease the income which will result in less tax payment..

Seriously? You`re just going to show the good side? What about all the money that goes into becoming an airline pilot? And what about airlines like Indigo and Spice charging people upwards of 25 lakhs just to give them a job? You also haven't mentioned anything about the COVID crisis, where pilots have been laid off en mass, several airlines have collapsed and many Indian pilots have yet to get their salaries.
P.S: People in the comments section:
Airline pilots make the same money as any mid level managerial post overseas because there is no shortage of high paying jobs overe there. In India these salaries seem high because most young engineers etc make paltry salaries. Being an airline pilot requires years of studies and is a very highly skilled and DANGEROUS job as lives are literally being put on the line, and not to forget incurs huge costs on the individual. Even then most pilots can't make it to the airlines. So think over this before you start believing that anyone can be an airline pilot and make "so much" money.
Another thing I would like to add as that an airline pilot is always walking a very thin line. If a desk worker loses his leg in an accident he can continue to work, but a pilot can’t do that. Very high medical fitness standards need to be maintained for their entire career or they can again lose their job. Any mistake during a flight and again the risk of losing your job or being grounded for months or even years. Along with this are factors like constant travel, very few days a month home, no weekends and no public holidays along with very limited leaves combined with frequent fatigue just to name a few. So yeah, its anything but a cakewalk.
This isn’t to discourage you, but to show you both the sides.

I think Airlines in India pay so much money in Salaries that they run into losses very soon and eventually that forces them to close their operations in India or announce them as defunct. I wish they pay some sensible salaries as per with other industries in India so that we can also buy tickets at an economical rate and the airlines also can make substantial good profits.

Exemption u/s 10 is the exemption you got for HRA, Uniform allowance, etc
Form 16 summary is your income from salary details and it shows the NET amount you received in a year and amount of total tax you paid along with exemptions and perquisites if any

It is just the Brought Forward Ee PF Contrib (12%) of the Basic Arrears (Rs.18,431.83) that was added to your current month's salary. BTW, your actual Earning per month was NOT Rs.388,667.55 as you say but Rs.277,026,00. You should not add all earning components with the word "Arrears" as those are one time amounts added due to some anomaly in calculations in the prevous month(s).
