I’m glad this movie managed to find its footing after a while. It was very nice to see Illumination do something original for once. Really good movie!
I have to be fair to illumination here though... Most of their movies are original. Despicable me IS an original concept.
Then we have "Sing." "Secret world of Pets." "Hop."
For all of illuminations faults and there are many... over half their movies are original concept and stories so I can't fault them for that at all.
@@MoonPhantomok, I should’ve been more specific, what I actually meant was Illumination doing something original for once that isn’t a sequel or adaptation. Because after 2016, they stopped making original stories and either did sequels (for despicable me, Secret life of pets, sing, and minions) or adaptations (for the Grinch and Super Mario Bros), which isn’t bad, obviously. But something new is nice every once in a while. I apologize for the confusion.
@v2007sentertainmentinc. you should totally watch Migration it's amazing 10 / 10 for me even 100 / 10 xd you should totally watch it . Truly illumination's best movie so far easily .
@@MoonPhantom Yes... but sequels are not originals.
A lot of this movie can be compared to the movies Rio and Rio 2 (with the blue birds) some of the diaglogue was even the exact same
Illumination finally making movies other than the Minions is a breath of fresh air.
It feels like illumination has shifted in recent years, even Minions The Rise of Gru which was minions felt different
Minions 2 was actually really good
@@locomotivetrainstation6053Sing 2 was amazing as well, arguably my favorite film they’ve done.
Even better than the first.
Universal: "Look.....we do like *safe* movies, but..........this might be....too safe you know?"
This movie actually wasn't that bad! The dynamics between the family is really entertaining lol
so true! I loved the siblings fighting 90% of the time it was finally realistic (also sir pentious pfp yay!!)
@@Coffeecat_24yay
@@Coffeecat_24 yaaay also I didn't realize you commented lol UA-cam is drunk sometimes.
It's New York City baby! We have ninjas turtles, pizza rats, gangsters seagulls shoplifting - a duck walking through a dance floor is just another Tuesday 😂
Wow! Who knew New York got the wild animals baha!
This is a perfect example of a simple and generic film being good. You don’t need constant originality and complex writing to make an enjoyable movie, and since that’s one of the most important things for movies to achieve, it shows that this is a good movie. Gorgeous visuals, fun characters and a genuinely charming sense of humor, it’s a great movie to just sit back and have a good time in the movie theatre.
Hope we see more films like this in the future, to help balance out with the golden masterpieces like the spiderverse franchise and the recent puss in boots the last wish.
Migration is actually a really good film, and feels different to what Illumination have done prior. Props to Benjamin Renner for instilling a unique identity into an animated film.
I KNEW IT. PEOPLE CALLED ME CRAZY WHEN I SAID IT'D BE DECENT.
I think what made it bad was that it was released on Christmas weekend, when everyone was with their families
Well actually, it arguably should’ve done better because Christmas Day is when Jewish people hit the movies to bide their time in the day since they don’t celebrate Christmas. At least that’s what I hear.
Yeah, pretty much every movie released around Christmas does bad at first and then ends up improving later
I like ducks, I like animation, I like this movie. This was a win in my book, and I hope they don't give up on original stories like this.
Me & friend went to see this film because Godzilla Minus One was out of our local theaters, & for what it is it's actually quite good. I think animated films like Spiderverse & Puss in Boots really spoiled us making us forget not every film has to be a grand epic full of deep & emotionally torn characters. It's okay just to be a simple fun family movie.

Mac was trying to prove that he isn’t a scaredy-cat by rushing into adventure despite the resistance from his family.
One of the best of Illumination.
Not a big Surprise.
These uploads are so fast now! Excited to watch EVERY ONE
After all these years, he has a good upload schedule
the thing with mack checking the cellar out makes actually sense when you think about his character as a whole. He started off as someone who refused change and slowly starts to build this sense for adventure, especially building up his courage at the chef's place. He clearly felt good with everyone thanking him and thinking him as a hero. So ig with a inflated ego and a new found sense of bravery he went in. It's a cool character arc and quite obvious if I can say so myself...
And macks whole character arc ends with him reminding erm... I forgor her name, but his wife that whatever is happening there is still light at the end of the tunnel. It's quite cheesy, yes, but it's enough for a good family movie and the topic of migration is not gate kept by only ducks and thus many humans can also relate.
One of the reasons why the movie is better that the rest of Illumination's package is definetly thanks to Benjamin Renner's influence as a director. He also made Ernest and Celestine and Big Bad Fox and Other Tales.
(My Review )
With that said I couldn't help but to compare some scenes to Rio with how similiar they were like the escape from the plane at the climax and the dance sequence. I would not be suprised if they "inspired" by it. Sometimes it was a bit repetitive with how the main characters met other ones while having wacky hijinxs with together and I do kinda wish we could get little bit of explanation as to why Mac was so worried to leave the pod. There was deleted scene where Mac as a duckling left his family and flew beyond the pod only for him to get attacked by predators.
If I would give positives its that the animation is beautiful while staying true to Renner's artstyle. The soundtrack by John Powell is great and the characters are very charming and fun. I especially enjoyed the dynamic between Mac and Pam and how much of a sweet couple they were. It was a complete 180 compared to Super Mario Bros in many details.
While I don't find the movie to be as good as everyone else I had a fun time watching it and I would recomend it if want something simple yet charming.
Oh my god I like this kind of upload time no more waiting 2 months or 1 months for a single video now we can wait 1 week or 2 week for a video haha this is fantastic
The advertising for this movie was painful
why was it paintful ? like it was barely advertised ? agreed unlike their other movies Migration was a bit less marketed than it should've been , but hey i guess they were saving up for despicable me 4 and going all out on that rather than this movie , because original idea maybe is breath of fresh air always , but a risk also . And i mean it was advertised , but not enough in my opinion , but the advertisements were funny and i liked most of them .
@@alekscrusher1571they reused the same duck joke I every single advertisement
@@meandmore_ what same duck joke ? .
@@meandmore_ pls answer i want an answer what same duck joke did they reuse ? .
thats probably why they didnt get as much money as with other movies
Imagine how good Wish would have looked like if it had the drawing style of the first scene of Migration
🐣Whats Duck l’orange
🐦: its you, with l’orange on top
I know its corny but that was the best joke in the entire movie for me😂
Lol I love that joke
@@sullivanhouse4697Awkwafina finally gets a good role. Sisu and Scuttle were characters Disney shot at her like a riffle, and the wolf in Kung Fu Panda 4 didn’t exactly fix everything, but Chump is proof she can voice a character if given the right role (AND THE RIGHT SCRIPT, DISNEY WHY DID YOU MAKE HER VOICE TERRIBLY WRITTEN CHARACTERS).
@@juanca2567 yeah.... Yeah you're right. I've been thinking about that ever since I saw this movie. Although she doesn't have much range she still can play character as long as that character isn't annoying.
@@sullivanhouse4697 I know. Seth Rogen had two great roles as Mantis and recently as Donkey Kong. The latter being the best since his laugh actually sounded both fitting, intimidating, and funny in the scene it was at. Remember the Mini Mario scene?

Something original I again never heard of again? Ugh. I will genuinely give almost any original movie a shot. Thanks for talking about it!
Have you seen Elemental ?
That too was an original and also had a slow start, but eventually made a big comeback too.
I really loved it.
I genuinely forgot this movie existed.
Bruh fr. Why so many people in the comments act like this is good is beyond me. It is a plotless boring stain.
@@zrexy79s11how is the movie bad?
@@smoldog1232 I watched in theaters because I wanted to see Godzilla Minus One, but my theater didn't have it, so I went with that instead. My brother and sister warned me that the movie was bad, but I figured it would at least have some stuff. They were right. The characters are cliche, like as soon as you see the father you know what character arc he's gonna go through, and it's done very predictably. The kids are just window dressing to look cute. The uncle is unfunny. The side characters were fine I guess, but nothing noteworthy, the climax is lame, and there is no consistent narrative, it's just scenes being stitched together haphazardly. It's a boring experience, and I would not recommend it. 4/10.
@@zrexy79s11 I found it fun
@@zrexy79s11it’s a perfect movie
Seeing you rank the duck movie itself truly made my day and honestly I have to agree with you Migration is just simply a fun movie to watch and it made my 5 year old bird lover me explode with joy when I first the news about that movie because back when I was just a child I used to absolutely *FUCKING LOVE BIRDS!!!* I used to adore them back then because they were just cool creatures and I used to be invested on almost every single species of them and when I saw this movie with my mom it made me a bit nostalgic for a moment because not only because it kinda reminded me of Rio a little and it’s also a movie I absolutely adored too but also because it reminded me of simpler times on back when life used to be so much simpler and that is something I really need for a long time and yes this movie along with the Mario movie and The Spider Verse movie are probably the 3 most anticipated movies I wanted to see this year and they’re all amazing so yeah Migration a good and fun movie for me and that’s ironic for someone where’s the channel OC is a literal duck saying this but yeah great movie highly check it out if you want something to make your day😊
People complain about chris pratt taking too many roles in kid movies (even though he only had three emmet, Garfield and mario), awkwafina is in every kid movie (little mermaid, raya, migration, bad guys, angry birds, kung fu freakin panda. Some dont even fit, raya, the bird from little mermaid. Im just saying
Play people complain about her being too many movies too though😂
@sullivanhouse4697 hmm yeah ur right ig my point is Chris's Pratt doesn't take too many roles compared to her and the rock
I literally thought the opening logos were the ending logos to Mooned for some reason... I mean they played seconds after each other.
I also liked how in this movie humans don't actually talk. They grunt as if they're saying something, but nothing is actually said. I just thought that was cool since this movie is in the perspective of birds who wouldn't understand non-bird animals.
I was and still am very surprised by Migration. This is probably the least Illumination feeling movie out of all their movies. Also as you mentioned it has great animation and cinematography which feels weird because I can’t really remember a time when Illumination would attempt this. I feel one of the best things you didn’t point out about this movie is the score. Holy moly this score is fantastic. John Powell has to be one of my favorite composers and like always he definitely brought his A game. To me this is now my favorite Illumination movie. This manages to take all the fun of Mario with some of the heart like Despicable Me and it just ended up being a blast to watch. It is surprising that of all the studios that released more than one movie Illumination was the studio to be the most consistent. Yeah they most likely will still make a bunch of sequels but with this feeling like Illumination is stepping up their quality I might be giving them more hope than usual. Migration for me is an 8/10.
I think there’s further potential to expand upon it, as it did eventually become successful at the box office.
For me, Sing 2 is my personal favorite Illumination film. Far superior to the first (it’s alright for what it is) and had an amazing soundtrack and felt more mature at times.
I love the detail that only the birds talk while the chef (and all of the other humans) never talk once, mirroring real life of course.
woah illumination made something that ISNT minions related?
The ending really do be giving Rio vibes
I KNOW. I JUST WATCHED THE MOVIE YESTERDAY. And for that reason, this obviously combines the two elements from the Rio series and that are what subjectively makes this rather... similar in a way.
That opening skit is better than everything Disney has put out in the last 2-3 years.
Hey now, Owl House was a fine show and Elemental was fantastic.
The Once Upon a Studio shirt was well made too. An epic crossover event LOL
I really like the dynamic between the two child birds it was really cute :)
httyd style flying scenes + john powell score??? illumination cooked here
The "pitch meetings" in the start are just perfect 🤣
This a good movie, but it dose have some issues that are kinda similar to Despicable me 3. They do have a strong story in the center, but all the side characters weaken the story a little bit.
very true! I think the moment they went to the white ducks? geese? it became way too much imo
Earlier today I was wondering when this was going to be released.
Tbh, I only watched the movie bc the dad duck had the same VA as Prismo…
from Adventure Time.
As always, the opening skit's hilarious. Not looking forward to hearing Awkwafina in Kung Fu Panda 4, as Zhen.
i just want to let you know that i really do love your videos!❤️ i remember finding you and binging EVERY SINGLE VIDEO you have, and even then it wasnt enough😂 when im bored or need to watch something when im studying, rewatch my favorites, so thank you for your dedication to these videos (:
I watched this movie in theaters, I had zero expectations yet it was INCREDIBLE. I highly recommend you watch this movie, it genuinely feels like a family movie (like jokes for all ages) rather than (just) brain rot for iPad addicted toddlers.
she duo on my lingo
Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room, a rubber room. A rubber room with rats. The rats made me crazy.
I was expecting a Duck Hunt movie, but I guess this is the best we could hope for.
Omg watching you get more views over time is amazing ❤
a nice detail i like abt the movie is the missing foot on the chump, pigeon usually get their feet stuck in hair or something in the city they'll usually peck it until it lost its nerves in the foot making it useless
My girls wanted to see this in theaters so bad and I agreed to just have some fun with them. I wasn’t expecting much from it, just thought it was going to be a silly kids movie. But I surprisingly enjoyed it more than I thought I would lol
Saw it in 3d. Thought it was worth doing at least once. Flying scenes work really well for it
Once I found out that Despicable Me four was coming, I knew it was all over
In defense of the mallards not flying out on the dance floor....it's extremely crowded and flying out could cause a mess and give away their location.
Am I crazy or is this just the plot of Rio 2?
Rio + Rio 2 + Ratatouille
Yes
Rio 2 had like 5 plots
I haven’t seen this movie, but have heard of it, might check it out at some point.
I saw the title of the video and immediately imagined vsauce talking
This movie surprised me by being like a 2007 Alpha and Omega/Open Season type movie yet in 2023. I just remember the weird Shark Tank promo feeling so awkward and forced.
Awkwafina is now a character in the Beanie Brian cinematic universe
i was expecting the selling point to universal in the opening skit to be "we can get awkwafina in it"
watched this with my family after not going to the movies for a while. we chose migration and honestly it was a pretty cute movie! i came out liking it more than i thought i would!!
I thought beaniie was gone. I adore his intro for every movie he reviews.
I really loved migration :)
Anyone thought of rio?
Yeah! It reminded me a lot of Rio
I love the humor in this review.
The thing why I love watching your every video - the conversations of the film industries.
Anyway the movie was good. It was surely a film for families and kids mostly, but it wasn't a bad animated movie. Also the animation was really pretty and I liked its characters.
It wasn't a pixar movie or studio ghibli movie suuree, but it was nice for Illumination.
Okay, get this mf to 100k, it's been too long ✊
squarespace has got this man into having a consistent upload schedule, i'm clicking that link 😂
I think migration is the top five illumination movies but it ain’t saying much but it’s a great family movie 6/1
It pulled an Elemental.
Damn, two comebacks by different companies in one year. And both originals.
It Made My Day Even better
I watched this movie while high and it was a fucking experience
Surprised you didn't mention who directed it. The same guy who did Ernest and Celestine worked on this visual gem.
Imagine if Beanie made a rundown on Trolls Band Together and starts to compare this to Disney's Wish since both movies are released on the same month?
16:22 in his defence I would probably do the same
Good vid beanii
Migration pulled an Elemental for Illumination!
That's what happens when you make a good movie
I just assumed Ducks need some sort of "running start" in order to fly, or go in any diagonal motion, like they can't fly up and down easily. But how would I know.
OMG NEW VIDDD
I went to see this movie with friend and end up enjoying it.
We are the beans and we will rule all nothing can stop our ever growing might.
turn this into a copy pasta
They got John Powell, from How To Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda, in this movie to compose the score 😮
why do ppl hate on illumination? i really like them, especially this movie
We don’t even have wild macaws here in Jamaica 💀💀💀
2:25 and that’s how Despicable Me 4 was made
I saw this trailer at the theatre and I SWEAR I've seen this movie before, like this movie already existed from another studio with a bunch of the same jokes as the trailer... but like when I was younger. Like it's gotta be 10 years old AT LEAST but I haven't seen anyone else talking about it but I remember this movie already existing so clearly
UPDATE: WATCH THE TRAILER TO YELLOWBIRD AND THEN RE-WATCH THE TRAILER TO MIGRATION
Rio?
@@vadimbanner2024 no I figured it out it's called Yellowbird
This was a good movie. It’s not the best as I can see its faults but seeing it is an original concept, something that isn’t done as much and it to me, is funny, it was good.
Are you thinking doing a Lorax or Horton hears a who which I want to see what we’re your thoughts on dr Seuss films
Finally a good original movie
i loved this show
Side characters, keep coming and going, and the ones that they are pretty worthless and don’t add much the store as a whole.
My mom really wants to see the movie but she doesn't want to drive too far and all the theaters are miles away from our house.
16:34 why does the swan leader look like a hazbin hotel character with that rizz race
I’m confused how Dax I think that’s his name but he just attached feathers to his wings like how they don’t have hands
I don't why but this movie reminds of Rio
Because the main characters in both movie are birds
14:40 don't think that's how duck flying works
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE THINKS LIKE I DO😂😂😂😂
For reference, when you figure out a film's profit margin, you generally take its production cost and then double it; it's not exact but it takes into account things like marketing budget and theater take. On a budget of $74 million that means it would've had to make $148 million to break even, so the profit margin is closer to $100 million, not $156.
That's still nothing to sneeze at, and is actually well known as Illumination's modus operandi-- they can crank out films on a comparatively shoestring budget compared to Disney or Dreamworks and even if it's a 'flop' (I love that Wish is the metric for this now, hah hah), they're all but guaranteed to still make a good profit.
They also have to split with the exhibitors (the movie theater) so the usual "formula" is 3x the production budget to break even.
My you saw they took a long time to fly and in a crownd they wont be able to get the time.
I genuinely enjoyed this movie
I really liked the movie after I got pasted the protective dad troupe
This is one of the really good illumination movie
idk if you have done Disney's Soul yet. If not will do that video at all?
a pleasant movie :)
Migration might be the best illumination movie, simply because the story wasn’t rushed, the movie was funny, and the funny was visually amazing. All other illumination movies only accomplish 2/3, for me, this one accomplished 3/3 requirements 😳✨✨💅
Isn’t this Rio2 but slightly different😭
tbis was a good family movie
