Recorded at Musician’s Friend in November 2017.
It’s the year 1960, and John Lennon buys himself one of Rickenbacker’s cheapest guitars.
It’s the year 2019, and Rickenbacker only makes them in limited numbers, and sells them for thousands of dollars.
Not sure about the ‘58 model price, but in 1964, the price for a 325c was ~$390 which is a lot even in the ‘60s.
@@TooCooFoYou The '58 was £100 (£2,262 of 2019 so about $2,800) but John paid it "only" £60 because it was a demo model and had been around the World twice.
$390 of 1964 is worth over $3,240 today. Fender guitars were about $160-200 w/o case, so Ricks have never been cheap.
I'm not surprised regarding the jacked up price.
I mean aside from music not being so cheap, this type of guitar is quiet old, not to mention it gained celebrity status due to being used by John Lennon of the Beatles.
@@ChurchillCigar Did he?
George talked about 'on the knocker. You know, money down and the rest when they catch you'.
@@TooCooFoYou more than my strat
Rickenbacker needs to make much more of these cause they are wayyyyy to expensive atm and more people want it but they’re also hard to find.

They gotta keep the demand up
@@honeybadger1810 are they really making that much more money with that strategy? They just don't sell as much as they would otherwise... The price isn't even that high compared to Gibson or to the Fender custom shop
I think it makes them less valuable for collectors if they’re easier get
John’s was originally natural and he paid some Liverpool cabbie that painted cars to paint it black, than after Beatles broke up he stripped her back to natural, it was his favorite guitar
Dan Maltby are talking about the 1958 model or this 1964 because the 1964 was given to john by Rickenbacker
the '58.
It was neck and neck with the Casino.
That was his 1958 Ric. This one was given to him by Rickenbacker in 1964 just before the Ed Sullivan Show in Miami. It's not the guitar you're thinking about, thus the moniker 325 C64 Miami.
@@allisterwhitehead Jim Burn's said to have attended to V81's wiring at one point but the black paintwork was done by Charles Bantam in Birkenhead in black tecoloid enamel.
Lennon installed the Bigsby some time before that.
I am 56 years old , been a Beatles fan all my life ! . .I recently purchased a 2012 rick.325 it is an awesome guitar I've been a strat player most of my life. This guitar takes a little getting used to , but playing early Beatles tunes on this is like a dream come true.
I bought a brand new one in July. I played it once or twice. It's been sitting in the case. I'll be selling it, otherwise it will be nothing more than a conversation piece.
@@anthonys7336 how much would you sell it for?
@@anthonys7336 It's pretty funny how whenever someone has fun with a Rickenbacker, someone has to complain that they don't like the guitar to that person.
@@robotman5105 Thanks for the quick reply.
JOHN LENNON ♥
Love the sound of the ric. No wonder John Lennon used it.
This guy looks like a mixture between all four beatles

Thats my dream guitar
Rickenbackers are true works of art.... definitely some of the most beautiful and coolest sounding guitars on earth!!!
When I see 325 I remember lennon
I bought a 86. 320 model in 92. What a great guitar. Mine has the high gains on it and the previous own upgraded the tuners . i got it at the crazy price of $600 w case back then , Akron, Ohio.
Sounds like Beatles

God I love the 325's. But alas, as a lefty player, I am forever denied the experience. The day Rickenbacker decides to create a run of lefty's you can bet I'll be the first in line. Until then, I'm desperate enough I'm actually considering to grab a righty 325 and string it Hendrix style.......
I will try and ask him about it, Engineer.
It’s hard being a lefty. Everyone tells me “just play right handed” and it drives me nuts lol
ive got a lefty 360 rickenbacker.........should be some 325 's around???
Could this ever be modded to have a 5 way strat style switch for the single coils?
That might be complicated.
Awesome review :)
0:51 I'm Happy Just To Dance With You ❤️❤️🎸🎸✌🏻✌🏻
A very good review of it with a range of styles and sounds. So many other people show us gentle blues or something.
It's so compact. To me it's a briefcase.
Wish you played this without any pedals. I've owned a 325 and it doesn't need it.
What is the neck shape? Short scale means little if the neck is half a baseball in thickness!
歪ませたらこんないい音するんや
一般的にはいい音とは言わんのかもしらんけどめっちゃ好きな音
I never knew these guitars only had a 20 and 3/4” neck. That’s kind of cool to know, since I prefer the feeling of the strings on shorter-scale guitars like Les Pauls. (24.75” scale length, as opposed to 25.5” on a Fender).
20 and 3/4 is way smaller than 24.75. It is a 3/4 guitar. Guitars for toddlers are of that scale.
Fender Jaguars and Mustangs have a 24'' scale length, but I can't imagine what a 20.75" would be like.
@@deaddoll1361 not for large hands or fat fingers. That's where the 350V63 Liverpool enters the picture, identical but 24.75" scale.
One thing is for sure nobody knows how to play clean anymore. And if you’re not using 12s with that guitar you’re not even in the ballpark.
lmao what
Yeah, it's a nice guitar but rather expensive. In Canada, where I live, this guitar sells for $5000.00. LOL I mean, c'mon! I can think of a lot of other guitars I would rather own for that kind of money.
V series of the 325 blows this one away. The fingerboard is also a fiery red on my '96 325v63 unlike what Ric uses these days due to regulations on wood species.
I've had four of them. The oldest being a mid 70's model. They're nice guitars for what they are, definitely not for everybody. I liked them... I will say, it's one of the coolest looking guitars!!
I bought one of these back in 2016 it is a great guitar and have so much to play and I play through my Vox AC 30 which is just awesome
Philip Howard how much did you get it for
BruinsRule 11 $3000.00 at guitar center
@@philiphoward1731 You overpaid. I got mine on Reverb for $1,200.
@@blakemcnamara9105 3000 seems like a fair price for a model like this brand new. you got a really great deal
@@blakemcnamara9105 yeah uh-huh., when, 1985?
If these Rickenbacker were not so freaking darn expensive, people could re-discover the charms of being out of tune all the time. With these short scale 325C64 being always out of tune is somehow part of the tone of these guitars :D ... it can be somewhat annoying ... but as soon as you've decided not to give a f**k anymore about tuning accuracy then it's just pure old time fun.
When the money finally comes rolling in (ha!), I'll buy one. Until then...(drooling)..
Tried one once but the short scale was too difficult to deal with so I "settled" for its full scale big brother the 350 V63 Liverpool.
Rest In Peace, John Lennon
Thanks for pronouncing it correctly! I had a nineties Rick 325. Sold it and got a Rick 350. The 350 has the same vibe but is much nicer to play.
I have one of these. It took a long time to get, was very expensive, but also a wish come true. I also have a MIJ Epiphone Casino Elitist which you can't get anymore. At least you can still get the Ric 325.
Such a beautiful sound *Pacha face*
Sounds like John Lennon 😍😍
I have 3 Ricks. Have had a ton of em in the past.
If I get successful enough, I gotta have one of these. Just to be able to own one.

What is the wright off this guitar.? I'm a really small person and can't handle much weight or anything bulky. Thnx for any info.
its light
They weigh just under 7lb from memory or about 3.2 kg. A great guitar for a small person. The necks are great for people with small hands too.
@@halloweenjack4482 Thanks for the information. Actually sounds doable, even for me. Now just have to finish saving the money for it. : ) Thanks again.
@@melissashaw2431 My pleasure. If you get the chance to visit a music store and see one then don't be afraid to pick one up and have a 'feel' of it. You will learn a lot just by holding the guitar. It's a real beauty and I hope that you will get one. One of the greatest rhythm guitars in the world in my opinion.
Holy shit I want this right now 😮😮😮😮😮
Better play one first or buy with a liberal return policy if you've never played a short-scale Ric. They are different, in a difficult sort of way.
Sou apaixonado pela sonoridade dessa guitarra
I need this guitar in my life. How much does it weigh?
Are the truss rods an issue?
What is the neck shape like on this? Wide thick c d etc?
My friend owns a '66 rick and it's the best guitar I've ever played! The 325 is 7 lbs. Truss rods are not an issue and won't cause you an issue for a long time. And I think for the 325 the neck shape is a slim c
@@jamesbakrevski9076 SWEEEEET!
@@jamesbakrevski9076 What strings do you play with and is the action high?
I'm selling mine.
Most Ric necks are thin and narrow, even the 12s. Except for the Tom Petty 660s, which are more like a 60s Les Paul neck.
With those three pick ups, isn’t there a way you could get it to sound like a Stratacaster?
Nope very different beast. And only a 3-way selector
Just buy a Strat!!
Actually the third after the one he opened with.
Happy just to dance with you.
Странно, но на гитаре Левы Би-2 инкрустация на ладах - прямоугольные треугольники, и рычага нет
И звукоснимателей всего две штуки
This guitar is very difficult to play because of the short scale, the fingers do not fit, they touch the frets and it gave an unpleasant metallic vibration sound, like the 1:11 minute.... I had to return mine, I changed it for a 330 and much better, there is not much difference of sound, both have that rock and roll sound
Dany M I kind of like the small scale
Get the 350
330 and 325 was the same guitar with differences the scale size.
Not true, Carlos- the 330 body is quite wider with bigger horns.
@@duffbaker9554 Sorry. I thought the only difference was the scale. Good to know.
What is the music of 1:28?
Almost sounds like Taxman from the Revolver album.
@@clownbaby6793 Es cómo una variación de ese tema.
this comment section is 99.990 John Lennon and 00.001 other stuff
Eggman- it is pretty annoying actually. It is unfortunate that a guitar gets basically typecast into only one specific Artist. Totally limits the full range of what the guitar can do. My buddy has a RIC 330 and he shreds on it and hates the Beatles. People hear him shredding and actually become upset he isn't playing only Beatles. It is completely ridiculous.
Chickenbacker, just as good?
wise1 No not even close
No,not even close!!
Price??
3600 or 3200 on sweet water
Andy Aleman £3198 on Thomann
Mucho dinero, as in excess of $3400.00
Why would someone want a short scale guitar?
That's the trick question, most people don't. They only bought it because JL played one, even though a 350 long scale is much more comfortable,.
Ricken-Bayacker! LOL
It's actually pronounced that way, not "Ricken-bock-er" like everyone tends to say.
