my grandpa worked at warner brothers from 1925-1967 told many stories of the stars he said that pernell roberts was a class act very kind and never looked down on any cast are crew always said thank you are excuse me, but then grandpa though a bit gruff at times was class act himself he and grandma lived around the corner from the studio at 239 n cordova in burbank, ray elliott was his name miss ya grandpa

Maybe that's why he got out of Bonanza, Michael Landon was a real diva and brash

That's an amazing story! Do you have any other stories about his time at Warner Bros.?

@@zombiefulci3301If you don't know the real reasons why Pernell Roberts left ( or was fired) of BONANZA, then you better stop blaming Michael Landon for what happened. Try to see the interview of David Dortort speaking about this. ( you can see this interview in UA-cam) It surely helps you to know what really happened with Pernell Roberts. No. Michael Landon wasn't a diva, a brash or a spoiled brat. He was the most beautiful human being you can even imagine.

This episode is always a sad episode for me. Because this was the last episode that focused on Adam and was really the last episode of Bonanza that Pernell Roberts was in. What a fantastic song. Absolutely love it.

People are extremely salty when they hear you listen to some old songs. You'd think in a time where morals have been thrown out the window, they wouldn't care what you listen to. I lost my fair share of folks because they found out I listened to old music. I'd say it tells you what they're up to.

I knew Hoyt for decades, since I was just a kid, toured the country and sang backup vocals with him in L.A. and on the road, and sang on a couple of his albums... and yet I never realized he'd done any episodes of Bonanza or had sung with Pernell Roberts. Hoyt was quite an interesting man with a stupendous voice and singing style, tremendous ability as a songwriter, and many demons to wrestle. Sadly, he never took good care of his health and left us too soon. RIP, big bro.

*Hoyt* :Well every road I see, leads away from me. There's not a single one that leads me home..
All the roads keep sayin ," friend, come see what's round the bend.."
So is it any wonder that I roam?..
All the places I have been , keep ah-callin me back again..
    How down in the pines.
I hear the cold wind blow..
My heart keeps tellin me ... footloose and fancy-free, but the road goes by and calls me as it goes..
*Adam* : Well maybe somewhere there's a someone waitin there with a smile ,
And maybe there'll be someplace I can stop and rest a while ..
Cause maybe you weren't mean to be just a rollin stone. And there's a road to travel on that leads you back to home ..
*Adam & Hoyt* : Oh but I'll keep travelin on, keep ah-lookin at the dawn. Till I can lay this lonesome body down.. and when that day has come, I never more will roam. And every road I see will lead me home...
Well , when that day has come , I never more will roam.. and every road I see will lead me home.
    RIP Roberts and Hoyt

Jim Morrison sings a version of the first song here at the beginning of 'Runnin' Blue,' originally as a tribute to Otis Redding, who died shortly before recording. The song is (AFAIK) first attributed to the blue singer Lead Belly - the song is called "Poor Howard."

Hello fellow Hoyt fans. I agree with pretty much all your comments here, and just wanted to let you know that there ARE those of us still carrying the torch. There is very good music being made, always has been, it's just not typically broadcast on the airwaves any more. You have to do some digging, but it's there.
I find it a crying shame that most people don't even know the name "Hoyt Axton" these days, he should by all rights be a legend. I describe him as one of America's best (possibly THE best) virtually unknown singer songwriters. From Voodoo Blues to Della and the Dealer, Joy to the World to the Pusher, Gypsy Moth to Boney Fingers, Daddy walked in Darkness to Never been to Spain, all amazing songs sung by an amazing voice. My personal favorite is Wild Bull Rider.
I front a band in Asheville, NC, the Hazy 88's, we do all sorts of music, most RnB or Rock n Roll based, and some originals, and plan to work up a set of Hoyt's music. I really look forward to performing some of his works, paying homage where due, and keeping Hoyt's name alive.
    Cheers!

    Paul Howard's dead and gone.
    Paul Howard's dead and gone.
    Paul Howard's dead and gone,
left me to here to sing this song.
    Paul Howard's dead and gone.
Who's been here since I've been gone?
a pretty little girl mıth a red dress on
Who's been here since I've been gone?
Well, a pretty little girl with a red dress on.
Who's been here since I've been gone?
Well, a pretty little girl with a red dress on.
Who's been here since I've been gone?
Well, a pretty little girl with a red dress on.
    Paul Howard's dead and gone.
    Paul Howard's dead and gone.
Oh, who's been here since I've been gone?
Well, a great big man with a black hat on.
Who's been here since I've been gone?
I've been gone, great big man with a black hat on.
Poor Howard's dead and gone, poor Howard's dead and gone.
I'm standing outside there, listening to some pretty good music.
I am trying to figure out the fellow doing the singing.
You know, you, uh, you know you handle a guitar a lot better than you do a gun.
    Ain't that the truth?
You know, I don't know how to say this, but
I want to thank you for stopping me.
I've done a lot of things in my time that I'm not proud of.
    But not that one.
    That's pretty good.
    SONG #2
Smile as you go by, buddy, smile as you go by.
Cause I ain't got time to hear no grown man cry.
My pappy was a poor man, all he ever had was fun.
And all he had to give me was the earth, the sky, and sun.
But the greatest thing he told me was, boy, don't weep or moan.
Cause the man who's always crying now will always cry alone.
You just smile as you go by, buddy, smile as you go by.
Well, I'll take you over there tonight after we've done a little, uh,
picking and singing for us, huh?
My pappy was a poor man, all he ever had was fun.
And all he had to give me was the earth, the sky, and sun.
But the greatest thing he told me was, boy, don't weep or moan.
Cause the man who's always crying now will always cry alone.
You just smile as you go by, buddy, smile as you go by.
Cause I ain't got time to hear no grown man cry.
You just smile as you go by, buddy, smile as you go by.
Cause I ain't got time to hear no grown man cry.
You just smile as you go by, buddy, smile as you go by.
    SONG #3
    They say I'll never settle.
They say I was born wild.
But they don't know my burden.
I'm my mama's hard luck child.
    My mama's hard luck child.
I've been all over this land.
    From Texas up to Maine.
    And everywhere I've rambled,
    good people curse my name.
    Good people curse my name.
    SONG #4
Well, every road I see leads away from me.
There's not a single one that leads me home.
All the roads keep saying, friend, come and see what's round the bend.
So is it any wonder that I roam?
All the places I have been keep on calling me back again.
How down in the mines I hear the cold wind blow.
My heart keeps telling me, put loose and fancy free.
And the road goes by and calls me as it goes.
Well, maybe somewhere there's someone waiting there with a smile.
And maybe there'll be someplace I can stop and rest a while.
Cause maybe you weren't meant to be just a rolling stone.
And there's a road to travel on that leads you back to home.
Oh, but I'll keep traveling on, keep looking at the dawn.
Till I can lay this lonesome body down.
And when that day has come, I never more will roam.
And every road I see will lead me home.
And when that day has come, I never more will roam.
And every road I see will lead me home.
